Hirai Hyeri — Age: 38 (by 2018) — Around 152 centimetres tall — Curse User — Resides: Tokyo — Korean-Japanese — Sexuality: Bisexual
Content is heavy with mentions of sex, drugs, alcohol, and abuse. Read with caution.
Hirai Hyeri belongs to the Hirai clan, a prominent lineage of sorcerers who helped found the Kyoto Jujutsu High School. As the youngest of seven and the only girl after six brothers, she seems beyond exhausted with her family. Hyeri is a Curse User who utilizes her talents as a sorcerer to serve her own ends, showing little regard for the consequences of her actions.
Currently, she earns her living as a professional assassin, frequently collaborating with associates like Lilina Clark. She graduated from Tokyo Jujutsu High in 1998. Principal Yaga was in the same year as her, and the two are well-acquainted. Since graduating, Hyeri has distanced herself from the jujutsu authorities and has no intention of becoming a "proper" sorcerer. Most notably, she shared a chaotic, deep-seated relationship with Toji Fushiguro, the Sorcerer Killer.
❝ Get lost, or I’ll deport you like it’s 1940. ❞
"If someone had told me that the left road led to you, and the right road led to a bridge to jump off... I would have taken the bridge."
Born on March 26, 1980, Hyeri is the youngest of seven children, born to a South Korean mother and a Japanese father. Her parents expected a seventh son to complete the set, but Hyeri arrived instead. As she poignantly puts it, she was "the final drop" for her father. She openly admits to being mistreated by her older brothers throughout her life, though she acknowledges they were merely playing the roles assigned to them by their father. Hyeri has always harbored a desperate desire to escape.
Hyeri spent her early years in South Korea, living in the Gangnam-gu district of Seoul until the age of 14. She attended Joongdong High School, an institution founded by her distant ancestor, Lee Byung-Chul (the founder of Samsung). Due to her family's status, she was the only girl allowed an education there.
Living under a misogynistic father who only cared for his sons, Hyeri was largely ignored, while her mother, Jihyun, struggled to raise all seven children. Hyeri was treated as an anomaly and excluded from the family's sorcery traditions—until her fourteenth year, when she accidentally leveled the foundation of a building with her raw Cursed Energy. Following this, her parents sent her to Tokyo Jujutsu High for evaluation and training. She was classified as a Special Grade and kept under close surveillance.
Hyeri entered Tokyo Jujutsu High in 1994 at age 14. She was classmates with Masamichi Yaga. Known for her audacity and "Yankee" (delinquent) attitude, she began drinking and smoking at 13 to fill the void left by her parents' lack of validation.
To escape her family, she left the school at 18 and immediately married a man ten years her senior, whom she had been dating since she was 16.
Hyeri’s marriage was never about love; it was a pragmatic move to secure a roof over her head. The relationship was toxic and "repressible." She eventually ended the marriage after three years, manipulating the divorce through fake pregnancy tests and feigned miscarriages to secure a settlement. The proceedings ended abruptly when her husband was killed.
Though she remained a heavy drinker and smoker, Hyeri eventually found a semblance of peace. She was recruited by an agency of assassins and private investigators, preferring action over the boredom of a "normal" job. She became a Curse User, keeping her activities secret from everyone except her childhood friends, Lilina and Katherina.
Her meeting with Toji Fushiguro changed everything. While their bond was "hell on earth" at times, they eventually became a team. Toji found a place to stay and a partner; Hyeri found a man who could actually stand by her side. Over time, they built a rare foundation of trust and communication—a "right person, wrong time" scenario. Toji was the only person who truly managed to change Hyeri, making her almost unrecognizable in her growth. They were fiercely loyal and mutually jealous. Toji was her best friend—and her greatest weakness.
Following Toji's death, Hyeri spiraled. She suffered from severe depression and substance abuse. Four months later, she discovered she was pregnant with Toji’s child but, in a state of grief and self-destruction, she suffered a miscarriage due to antidepressant abuse. A year later, she nearly died from an accidental overdose.
She eventually found a new, singular determination: to live as long as possible to watch over Megumi Fushiguro.
Hyeri is someone extremely frank who expresses her thoughts in a direct manner, but she is also renowned for her absence of filter in all circumstances and her distance in relation to her affairs. She has her own ideas, and expresses in an exponential manner everything that crosses her mind. Whether it be good or bad. She has only two friends, the only ones who consented to stay at her side, and she appreciates them, even if she does not always show it to them.
She is possessive, a bit selfish, manipulative if necessary and above all: she develops quickly an emotional bond with those who surround her, and it is for this reason that she pushes everyone away. Hyeri imitates largely the actions of her parents and of her brothers; she is a woman who struggles continually for her own autonomy. It is somewhat paradoxical, given the fact that she holds so much to the people that she adores, to the point of being ready to kill for them. Even if she is not particularly attached to the notion of family, she values her brothers and has a profound respect for her mother who raised almost alone seven children, given the sexism of her father. She has often recourse to an external mean to soothe her pain. Whether it be fighting, or again, drugs, sex, alcohol.
However, that does not mean that she has only imperfections. She remains faithful to her friends and to the being that she will truly love. Just as she possesses a sense of humor very quirky and an unshakeable determination. As much as she judges it useful, she fights for a cause, and she appreciates philosophical discussions, because she is an intellectual woman of an immense culture. She is passionate about reading and often establishes comparisons, sometimes a bit… Particular, to analyze a situation. She is also capable of putting things into perspective. The feeling of love of Hyeri is destined uniquely to four individuals on the planet: Lili, Katherina, Toji and her mother, Jihyun. Otherwise, she is so discreet that she will never confide to someone she cares about, even if it is the case, her feelings. It is a person who loves the good life and will know how to take care of her mission if one is entrusted to her.
If Hyeri was a little bully during her youth, in the manner of a chihuahua, she is henceforth much more appeased since she reached the adult age. She no longer runs everywhere, and above all: she no longer spreads terror like in her school years. Toji often repeats to her that she "has a grain" [is a bit crazy], but that does not perturb her truly. He was the first to grasp that, given her family, she attempts simply to glue back the pieces in her own way. That said, it is debatable. She suffers also from a profound depression and an intense fear of abandonment, a subject that she does not mention. She is the only girl among her brothers. According to Toji, Hyeri embodies perfectly the failure of her parents, without however her being directly responsible. On the contrary.
He is however conscious that she is not without hope and has perhaps a good heart. Or at the very least, a decent person. Although she is not centered on ethics and morality, Hyeri knows how to question herself when one puts her face to challenges. However, she excuses herself rather by gestures of service, because her communication leaves something to be desired. It is once more Toji who taught her to resolve conflicts without recurring to silence or to personal vengeance.
With him, even if they maintained a relation rather tumultuous and without precise labeling, she had all the same started to be a comfort in intimacy, making him believe that she had become a completely other person thanks to his influence. She was useful, amiable, spoke much and could express her ideas without constraint. Equally without judgment on her actions or her past history. She adored him and he was the unique man that she truly loved in her life, despite all her other relations, including a former husband. She would have sacrificed everything for him, as she has already done, and has always been honest with him. She never cheated on him, nor betrayed his trust or his promise. Demonstrating thus her purity. In addition, that encompassed also her addictive behaviors which ceased during all her liaison with Toji. Hyeri blossomed much more by taking care of herself, by struggling, and anyone around her attests that the most beautiful epoch of her life is that spent with the Fushiguro.
Following the death of Toji, Hyeri experienced a collapse on various levels, whether it be on the emotional level or physical. Her depression aggravated due to her lack of adherence to treatment, as well as of her decision to no longer consult her doctor. She devoted her days to crying and to living her process of mourning. Moreover, she conceived with Toji two months before his death. Nevertheless, she did not hesitate to put a term to her pregnancy. Hyeri is a pragmatic person: she is not destined to be a mother, no matter if it concerns the child of the one she loved or of a stranger. She did not wish to cause pain to an innocent, nor deprive him of the life that he deserves. Hyeri is a modest person who glorifies herself neither of her fortune, nor of her realizations.
However, following these incidents, she regained certain foundations: an impulsive individual who finds herself in a spiral and no longer expresses more or less what she feels. She started to display self-destructive and risky behaviors, arousing the worry of her friends. Her emotional intelligence has deteriorated, she is more vulnerable than ever, and the only reason of her survival resides in Megumi Fushiguro, the son of Toji. She watches him discreetly after an abortion linked to her consumption and an overdose that almost cost her her life.
Hyeri is a woman who measures 1.52 meters and weighs 50 kilos, endowed with curly hair particularly long. Initially black, but of which certain strands started to tint themselves red due to her occult power. She possesses eyes of amethyst purple color and distinguishes herself by her triple fringe of eyelashes which confers to them a great length and density, just like to her eyebrows. She possesses a skin of a dazzling whiteness and fleshy lips.
She is tattooed and had before a beauty mark above the lip that she had removed. Hyeri straightens sometimes her hair, and wears them layered surrounding her face when they are straight. She had the habit of doing it constantly when she lived in Korea, because she was mocked for her curly hair. She does not apply as much makeup as that. Despite a diminution of this cute aspect that she does not appreciate, this latter retains a style very Korean. She possesses a silhouette rather slender and exceptionally wide hips, following the example of her thighs, which slightly surpass her chest, always generous. However, she does not have many apparent muscles, but is very toned.
In terms of fashion, Hyeri adopts a simple style and is not a person inclined to extravagance. Furthermore, her wardrobe is often composed of dark shades and she adopts a reserved attitude. She wears a work uniform which consists of a suit of which she never uses the jacket, a shirt and a tie which often ends up badly adjusted at the end of the day. She has rather a tendency to stay in a hoodie and in undies when she is at her home, for example. She privileges comfort over aesthetics. After the death of Toji, she sinks further into simplicity.

Hyeri and Toji never had a label; they didn’t possess one, and they never wore one. In truth, it was their inner circle—small as it was compared to Toji’s—who tended to categorize their relationship. Despite a connection built more on the unspoken than the stated, they had absolute trust in one another during the two and a half years (2004–2007) they spent together. While Toji’s true feelings remained a cipher, Hyeri’s feelings for him were clear to all, often at her own expense.
The two crossed paths in 2004. Following the end of Toji’s second marriage, he immersed himself in work, frequently crossing paths with the hitwoman. Their initial encounters were blunt; Toji didn't try to kill her every time, but they played a constant game of cat and mouse to see who could complete a contract first.
It wasn't until a Cursed Spirit hunt alongside Lilina (supported by their informant, Katherina) that they truly connected. As the mission turned lethal, they reached a mutual agreement: work together now, kill each other later.
They never took that initiative. Over time, their natural animosity faded into silence. As a man who loathed sorcerers, Toji should have hated everything Hyeri represented—a Special Grade who seemingly had everything he lacked. Conversely, Toji represented the total freedom Hyeri had always craved. Subconsciously, this is likely what drew them together. Despite his hatred for the Zenin clan and sorcery, Toji couldn't help but see the cracks in her armor; he realized that Hyeri didn't "have it all," and her innate abilities were the only reason she had survived her family at all. After she confessed the truth about her years at Jujutsu High and her descent into life as a Curse User, Toji developed a baseline of respect for her—perhaps more than for any other sorcerer.
Their professional run-ins eventually led to a night together. Though Toji initially intended to leave immediately, he surprisingly stayed through the morning. They shared a rare dynamic and a genuine connection. Eventually, they struck a deal: they would enjoy each other’s company with "no strings attached."
Toji began sleeping at her place so regularly it became noticeable. Hyeri didn't mind; she valued his presence, and an attachment to the Sorcerer Killer began to take root. His presence even curbed her addictions—since Toji disliked tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, she cut back out of respect for him until she nearly quit entirely.
As possessiveness and jealousy began to creep in, Hyeri made a daring proposal:
"I was thinking... I have enough money from missions, my divorce, my family. You know I don't usually touch that money, but... do you want to move? There are better shacks than this one, and frankly, it's starting to depress me, sleeping in Sakurai’s bed."
Hyeri’s true intent was stability. Toji initially refused fervently—no ties, no official "living together." But when she asked again two weeks later, the idea seemed more plausible. She eventually bought a house in an exceptionally quiet residential neighborhood. She even put Toji’s name on the paperwork.
In 2007, months before his death, Hyeri unknowingly conceived a child with him. Despite this, Toji accepted the Star Plasma Vessel mission, knowing full well he might not return. He chose to leave her behind, savoring his final days with her. Before departing, he left her a letter and performed one last "act of service": cleaning the house and stocking the fridge. He wanted her to keep living well, with or without him.
Toji never returned. No one knows if he thought of her in his final moments, though his letter promised they would find each other again.
That promise was kept during the Shibuya Incident. After being resurrected via Granny Ogami’s Seance Technique, Toji’s soul fought against his mindless instinct to kill the strongest fighters. For a brief moment, he broke through the trance. He nearly killed Hyeri, but managed to spare her. In those final moments, they spoke one last time, allowing Toji to give her a proper goodbye before vanishing.

Fusion (合併 Fusion) is a technique which allows to merge with the ground to move under ground. It does not work with water, but can it with solidified snow. Hyeri moves rapidly with this technique here. Fusion was the first technique that Hyeri succeeded in using, she was about thirteen years old and she served herself of it to run away from her parents' home without problem.
The reverse occult technique (Hanten Jutsushiki 反はん転てん術じゅつ式しき) is a special type of cursed technique which takes cursed energy and reverses it into positive energy. It is about a very complex technique, mainly used to heal human bodies. Hyeri can heal herself in a manner nearly unlimited, including the biggest wounds if she desires it. It is one of her specialties.
Shadow technique: Simple Domain (シン・「」 Shin Kageryū : Kan'i Ryōiki?) is an anti-domain technique which erects a small barrier around the user to protect him from the effects of a domain expansion. Hyeri is capable of countering most of the domain expansions in this manner, and of maintaining it during as much time as there remains to her enough occult energy.
Elysion (エリシオン, Erishion) is the domain expansion of Hyeri. In this one, the enemy is plunged in a sort of labyrinthine Bermuda triangle which makes lose the mind to the one who ventures there, and leaves only Hyeri. Also, he is observed by the curses contained in the weapons of Hyeri which are there to hunt him, to guide him in the bad directions, and thus, condemn to death. It takes the form of an immense labyrinth that it is not possible to climb, except for the caster of Elysion. Hyeri has already exorcised S-class curses in this way. She mastered it around her nineteen years. Today, she cannot so much use it in crowded places, and must do it only when there is enough space. Furthermore, she must recite the names of the allies if they want to be able to integrate it with her without problem.
(Kokusen 黒こ く閃せん): A phenomenon which occurs when the user applies cursed energy within the 0.000001 seconds of a physical hit, creating a spatial distortion which makes flash the cursed energy in black and amplifies the destructive power of the strike to a power of 2.5. Hyeri used the black ray three times, and this at instinct. Which proves that she can become in measure of mastering it.
The Law of the Return (復帰のルール Fukki no rūru) The Law of the Return works by catalyzing the hit of the enemy by reducing to the maximum its damage during the impact in order to cause less pain, like an inverted gravity field. Or a steamroller which exerts an inverse movement. Hyeri can only use this technique with reason, because it is draining for the exorcist who borrows it. She can also transmit the pain of her ally (or enemy) onto her own person, for example.
Curtain (Tobari 帳とばり): Hyeri can create a barrier which surrounds a certain zone. The barrier can isolate the zone from other persons or from a specific person who wants to enter it. Hyeri can maintain the barrier during about six hours if she does not exhaust herself too much.
A Vow (縛しばり, Shibari?) is a pact concluded by a person in exchange for restrictions. The innate vow of Hyeri consists of sacrificing her technique of the pact of Goryeo and restricting the use of her simple domain and domain expansion, in exchange for a potential of power increased up to 150%. In return, she is much more vulnerable.
The Meteors of Jumong (朱蒙の流星 Shumō no ryūsei) is a technique which consists of concentrating one's occult energy into one's fist, in order to use them and to cause destructive impacts up to causing the demolition of buildings if the power is concentrated strongly enough. They can serve as projectiles. This technique does not borrow so much occult energy from its possessor, but if one does not master it, it can become rapidly out of control.
Seal of Goryeo. (高麗の印章 Kōrai no inshō) Taking the appearance of a black hole, Hyeri can invoke her occult arsenal via the bias of this occult technique. It is utilitarian and can store up to 5 occult weapons. Hyeri possesses currently three occult weapons in her arsenal, and can access them without tiring herself too much. She cannot store the weapons of others for them.
