The start of my workday got delayed by an hour but I was already on my way on the tram under the central station so I thought, I’ll just get a coffee there, at which point the tram chauffeur made an announcement the station was being evacuated bc of a ‘suspicious package’ so now I’m in a spot right next to it while police etc keeps driving be and everyone in true Belgian style is just dryly discussing they hope it’s not an actual bomb “because public transport would be chaos for weeks”
Everyone walking in has a confused look on their face so the barista just keeps going “yeah bomb threat in the station” and this lady went: “oh, I work there?” with the expression of someone pensively considering if their workplace blowing up is worth it for a few days off
Got out in time to do a relaxed walk to my workplace and on de Meir this 14 year old girl slips on her bike and falls straight on her face, teeth lost and understandably immediately panicking, so I helped clean up the blood and stayed until she could call her mum and put her bike away etc, and then after that I had to go into a shop to ask if I could wash the blood of my hands.
And then walking out someone else instantly fell on their bike, they were fine but I was about to lose my mind for a second
Imagine I was late on my first day: “sorry there were several medical emergencies and a bomb maybe. Yes all on this 500 meter strip”
