Literally no reason to make that point by invoking Hitler. Like… the Hitler. Adolf “lemme just kill off every Jewisj and Romani person in Europe real quick” Hitler. Did I mention she literally quoted Hitler? If not: YEAH IT WAS HITLER.

Like, if she wanted to quote a conservative asshole, she could have at least gone with Billy Graham’s “The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.”

But no—she chose Hitler. You know why? It was a message. A dog whistle. She knew her audience, and they knew her.

she just wanted to find a context in which to say “hitler was right”, knowing that her target audience will appreciate it, but even “reasonable” people who hate nazis will jump to her defense by saying “weeellll if you think about what she actually said she’s not technically wrong per se…”

don’t quote hitler unless you’re pointing out that he was a fucking genocidal monster, because that’s the only part anyone actually cares about.
