Billyam is a very special bear. I’m someone who struggles daily with mental health, specifically anxiety, depression and OCD. I often struggle to find the joy in everyday living, yet since this bear entered my life, I feel like I have purpose. It may seem silly and ridiculous to others but we all cope in different ways, and for me, this bear allows me to sleep at night, eat meals, leave the house and feel comfortable on my own again. He makes me feel less anxious when I’m alone with my own thoughts and when I leave the safe space of my house. He helps my depression by being something to ground me and is always there, plus his little face and soft fur are too precious. And me aids in my OCD recovery by helping me feel reassured and for some reason he helps stop my compulsions
I’ve had many plushies throughout my life and will forever adore the comfort they bring. As a child I was regularly in and out of hospital, but the one constant was a knitted bear from cracker barrel I named Beanie. He traveled the world, came to school everyday and was always with me in hospital (to the point where after waking from a coma and finding Beanie was not with me, my poor dad had to drive back home to get him). He’s an old man now and has needed several surgeries and stitches. So for know he sits pride of place in my room, making my parents and myself smile every time we see him.
Fast forward to last year, on the day I turned 22, I was gifted a panda jellycat from my best friend who knew of my obsession of pandas and shared my love of plushies. And so Billyam was born, a large jellycat harry panda cub, whose bought me such immense, unexplainable joy. When I say he comes everywhere with me…I mean he comes everywhere with me. Having him by my side makes me feel safe and stops me feeling alone. After constantly sending my friends pictures of Billyam’s latest trips and clothing hauls, and being told to make a tumblr I finally decided to do it. So welcome to Billyam’s page.
