What you need to know about the Met Gala 2016
The Met Gala is here again people! if you're wondering what it is, the easiest way for me to explain it is that its a fashion world cup. It is a super fancy event where all Anna Wintour’s favorite celebrities congregate all dressed up to have a fancy cocktail and dinner in honor of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
The star studded event is usually free for celebrities but costs almost $25,000 dollars for “regular” people to eat amongst the big names.
Every year, the stars dress up in line with the theme which in the past has included Chinese fashion, Punk and Alexander McQueen.
This years theme is titled “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” and will explore differences between haute couture and machine-made clothing. We expect to see outrageous futuristic looking clothing made using techniques such as laser cutting and 3D printing as well as traditional ways of adding details such as hand embroidery.
Unsurprisingly, seeing as she has been a lot of people favorite person this year, Taylor Swift, Vogue Covergirl, has been picked as this years host. Her co-hosts include Idris Elba (yum), and Apple’s chief design officer Jonathan Ive. Nicholas Ghesquiere, Louis Vuitton designer, Karl Lagerfeld and Miuccia Prada are the honorary hosts.
Those who are invited usually come in pairs but this year Anna Wintour and the Costume Institute have been very secretive about the list. According to US Weekly, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are attending the gala together.
Last year, Rihanna performed and this year we are HOPING and PRAYING Beyonce performs. I mean, its only right, right? Considering she just realized a fire album.
For the first time ever, E! will be covering the event. A pre-show will begin at 7pm and the red-carpet show will air at 7:30pm. If you don't have access to E! fear not my lovely ones! Lets take this time to thank the social media gods that have created Instagram, Twitter, Periscope, Snapchat and so on. You won't miss anything! kidding.
Thats what i would say if the guests were not forbidden to use social media at the event. How mean! According to WWD, highlights will be on Instagram via a dedicated video channel and will be available on the explore page until Tuesday at 5pm.
