Her family wanted Mira to gain allies from the South and West, and they had hoped becoming handmaiden to Margaery Tyrell would give her many options for a suitor. They needed the Tyrells in any way they possibly could, although House Forrester was sworn to the Starks. Those in the Seven Kingdoms knew what Olenna Tyrell was capable of, and there had been talk of taking down Cersei Lannister in any way she could. The North and South needed union, and although both houses were minor, marriages still were important.
The boy was pudgier than expected, nonetheless, Talia did find him rather adorable. His cheeks always seemed to be flushed with crimson, and although shy during their time together, always managed to keep a timid smile upon his face. Sam’s suggestion for a walk seemed perfect right now. Talia would have to take all of this in: a new home, the new weather she was not used to. Still, she smiled at him, his timidness causing her heart to swell. Gods, he was adorable, at least that was better than a disgusting old man like Walder Frey.
“A walk sounds lovely, my Lord. Please, lead the way.” Her arm stretched outwards, awaiting the arm of the one she was betrothed to, to weave his arm through the gap left.
╾ Relief washed over Sam’s face as Talia gave her consent, but the respite lasted only a heartbeat. I should offer my arm, he thought, but thinking was one thing and doing another. He knew his tunic was damp from sweat, and beneath that his arm was trembling. The thought of her touching him only made him sweat and tremble worse, and now he regretted having spoken at all. She’ll think me terribly rude if I don’t.
Sam realized he’d been standing motionless, and stuttered an apology. He did his best not to look at her while he did, though he knew that probably made him look insincere. In truth he was merely terrified. If I’m too craven to give her my arm, may the gods help me if it truly comes to marriage. Sam knew he should hope it would; he could not wish for a prettier wife, and though she was still a stranger he’d heard tell that she was a good woman, with a kind heart. She would need one to want to wed him, if indeed she did want to. Like as not she was only here on her father’s orders, just as he was. She is the worse for it, if so, Sam thought as he shuffled awkwardly toward her. She is a beauty and I am just a fat craven, lucky anyone would take me at all.
The least he could do was keep to the courtesies, so Sam reached out and let Talia take his arm, though he blushed terribly when she did. ❝ It’s - it’s just this way... ❞ he mumbled. At least when they began walking there was some distraction, and out in the garden beneath the warm afternoon sun Sam felt himself grow a small measure bolder. It was easier to talk when he could keep to simple things, and when there was so much else for her to look at besides him.
❝ Do you see those little purple flowers there? ❞ he asked, pointing to the ones he meant. ❝ Those are called dog violets. They’re one of my favorites. ❞
