GOD I wanted to kick Kyereh's ass for just saying that at the beginning, but then, when he had resigned himself for the clock to be a "parting gift". Man.

AND WEN CHOOSING TO SHOW HIM THE FIREFLIES OVER USING HER ONLY CHANCE TO ESCAPE AAAAAAAAAAAAH I'M NORMAL I'M SO NORMAL ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!! AND HER TRYING TO CONVINCE HIM TO GO, AND HIM GOING AND BEING VULNERABLE ABOUT LONELINESS AND BEING ALONE BUT TOGETHER AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAH

AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THIS PANELS

HE'S LOOKING AT HER, WE ARE SEEING DIRECTLY INTO HIS EYES, WHEN HE IS BEING HONEST!!!! His eyes were hidden when he thought of the "parting gift" and he was being honest there too, BUT WE ARE SEEING HIM CHANGE, LIVE, DIRECTLY ON OUR SCREENS.

AND THE GLASSES BEING A GIFT from either Decker or her sibling, and how they constantly hide his eyes, BUT HERE THEY AREN'T HIDING ANYTHING, HIS EYES ARE "OVER" THE GLASSES WHEN HE IS BEING HONEST AND EXPRESSING DESIRE.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

I'M FIIIINE, I'M OKAY, I'M SOOOOOOOO WELL ABOUT THIS, SO OKAY.

I want to try to overanalyze Wen, but it's like the opposite of Kyereh, where he is very reserved so every subtlety is brought to question, but Wen has the illusion of optimism so it's harder for me to analyze BUT I WILL GET HER EVENTUALLY.

I yelled a lot today, but I think it was deserved. AMAZING WORK as always, take care of yourself!!!!

It's always such a joy to receive an ask from you!! Thank you for always sharing your thoughts, emotions, and theories! There's really nothing better for a creator than a reaction like this.... Seeing all the hard work and countless hours I poured into these pages lead to something that resonates this much with someone is incredibly rewarding!

This scene is actually one of the ones I already had in my head when I first sat down five years ago to properly script the messy story that had been living in my brain. I knew I wanted them to be completely alone, surrounded by millions of fireflies, while finally being able to share their loneliness with each other, despite barely knowing one another. I'm really happy it landed the way I'd hoped

i keep reading the new chapter updates while doing Phone In Bed and then lie there kicking my legs and making stupid noises the whole time. i love these two and their developing friendship so much aaaaaaaaaaa (and the glasses lore continues...). also seeing kyereh's finger joints makes me feel like a victorian catching a glimpse of ankle.

I’m also in bed kicking my legs every time I get an ask like this!! Thank you!!! It’s been really fun working on their dynamic right now, especially since the first arc is more of an introduction to the main story, and they’re only just getting to know each other properly compared to the rest of it

I've been wondering. Since every main character is associated with an animal (Wen's a wolf, Kyereh is an owl, Illirik is a sheep), then what animal does Juno have?

None, actually! He's beyond my poignant animal metaphors. But if I had to pick one, it'd be a capybara

Hey! Not great! But also not irreversibly terrible either. The data center my host is using had a pretty major overheating issue which they're still fixing, and support says the best-case scenario is that it’ll be all fixed tomorrow. But hey, tomorrow is not "sometime next week", so that's something

It's update day (as you might remember), but the main site is currently down due to some overheating issues on the hoster's end 😔 Hopefully it won't take too long to sort out, but I might postpone the usual update post until everything is back up. If it's still down by tomorrow evening, I'll post the update on a different platform this time which is less cool, alas, but better than nothing

The amount of work you put into your comic is incredible. Every single frame is gorgeous, and the colors are so rich and vibrant! How much time does it take you to draw each update?

Thank you so much!!! It's still so wild to me when people praise my coloring because for most of my life I barely even colored my art, and I had to learn how to do it just for the comic, lol. I still don't think it's my strongest suit, but I'm incredibly happy you think it's good.

It usually takes me one day to draw one page, sometimes two pages a day when they're simpler and don't have many frames! I have a bunch of buffer pages (about 3 months' worth of updates I think?) just in case, but usually it takes me right about a month to finish one monthly release (around 30–40 pages). But please don't think my experience is universal, I work part-time, so I have more time for actually important things (my silly comic)

Qnother name for this chapter: Lin Wen, master of psychological manipulation.

I'm soooooo normal about Kyereh showing signs of emotional deconstipation. The panel where he reaches out to touch the rain was MUACK chef's kiss.

The watchmaker jumpscared me so bad, I thought he was Illirik's dad for some reason 😭😭😭😭😭.

Wen grew up with Illirik, she KNOWS how to make things go her way when the other party is being needlessly stubborn. Also, I'm so happy you noticed the rain scene!!! It's very small, but it's one of my faves in this chapter too. Thank you so much, as always, for leaving your thoughts!

aaaaaaaa the most recent chapter made my chest hurt, i would do anything for illirik T-T i feel like part of her reluctance to leave the village is a "better the devil you know" situation...if she leaves, she won't have to be around people who inherently distrust her, but then, what happens every time she meets someone new who thinks she's blessed and wants something from her, only to learn otherwise? the pain of having to deal with a chain of fresh rejections vs sitting with the ones she's learned to live with...im sure we'll learn eventually what shes up to in the present day but i hope she's doing ok

also! chapter 7! i think about the "i require no more kindness than your crossbow" page a lot (oh kyereh, don't you know a crossbow functions best when you're kind to it?). i asked about his glasses a while back and now im wondering if he took them from agatha's brother, since he hasn't got them in the flashback. (obv this is a theory i will have to continue to sit on but i figured id give you an update :D)

Thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful ask!! It genuinely made my entire day, to the point where I had to sit with it and think for a while before answering. I LOVE your analysis, and you’re very on-point with Illirik’s characterization. She’s very stubborn and unwilling to risk losing what she already has, no matter how dissatisfied she is with it. Wen would always say that if Illirik managed to make good friends in Galargos, she’d definitely be able to find good friends anywhere else too, and Illirik would say in return: if she managed to make so many enemies here, how many more would she make in a bigger place? To her, it’s just not worth the risk. Better to endure what she already knows than potentially make things even worse.

And about Kyereh: to him, kindness and maintenance are two very different things. You maintain your weapons, and you should maintain them well and responsibly to keep them working, but you don’t have to be kind to them, and you certainly don’t have to tell them stories or sing them songs (Wen would disagree). And I remember your question! As usual, I’ll keep anything that’ll be answered in the comic to myself, but I’m HAPPY that you share your thoughts! And I’ll always be delighted to get future updates!

There are good people, but unfortunately small communities can be quite vile and superstitious, especially if you don’t fit in, ESPECIALLY if they deem you dangerous. Illirik was just very unfortunate to become the main target of that fear and suspicion

The answer to that one will come in future chapters!

As for the dialect, I took some (honestly pretty liberal) inspiration from Tagalog, and not just for the language, but for some cultural influence too. In the real world, Juno would also be of Filipino descent on his father’s side.
