The Mediator Series-Meg Cabot
SCRAPED THE CITY TO FIND THIS BOOK
Before I review this marvelous series, I want to tell you guys a little story on how I got my hands on them. It was a bit of a journey but it was worthwhile. If you guys don’t wanna read my interesting story, just scroll down.
The Mediator series. I don’t even know where to begin. I LOVE this series, I’ve read it over and over a billion times and every time I re-read them, I feel like it was the first. The first time found the series I was in high school-grade 10 to be exact which was like 5 years ago-I was at my public library and I saw the first 2 books on the shelf (it was a 2 in 1 kind of book). I read it at home, the transit and didn’t bother paying attention in class because I was busy reading the book-my teachers were really frustrated with me but whatevs. After finishing the 2 in 1, I asked the librarian if they had the rest of the series and the answer she gave me saddened me because they didn’t have it. So I went to almost all the bookstores and libraries in my city looking for the damn 3rd book. Unfortunately, luck was not on my side. I decided to just give up and buy them on Amazon, which I never got to because at the time I didn’t have a credit card. I ended up reading the series online through my library (it was Adobe reads or something, I don’t exactly remember). Which I was pretty happy about but would’ve been more happier if I had the actual books in hand. After 3 years of hunting down this damn series, I decided to go into this second hand book store located near my high school. I had a gut feeling that the series would be sold here, and guess what?
I was jumping of excitement in the tiniest bookstore (literally so tiny, the ceilings was arm reach). What’s even better to top everything off? The books that the owner was selling them for was $2.99-3.99. Yeah. I know. Dirt cheap. Thank God I didn’t purchase it on Amazon. I went home and decided to re-read the series to celebrate-missing some champagne but whatevs.
And to top everything off with a cherry, Meg Cabot, my home girl, wrote a 7th book to the series!!!! GIRL, I was happy ASF.
MY REVIEW FOR THE MEDIATOR SERIES
Now that you guys have finished either reading or scrolling my story, I’ll tell you guys my opinion on this series
Here is my brief synopsis of the story.
The story starts with 16 year old Suze Simon (short form for Susannah) and she’s from the great big city, New York. She doesn’t stay long in New York because her mother married a new man name Andy Ackerman. So why does she move? Because Andy isn’t from New York but California, in a town called Caramel. There she lives with her mother, step-father Andy, and her 3 step-brothers, Jake (Sleepy), Brad (Dopey) and David (Doc). The twist of this story is that Suze isn’t your average teenage girl. As much as wishes to be, she was born with a special gift and is called a mediator. A mediator can see, speak and even touch ghosts, since other people can just walk through a ghost, but not for Suze. But there’s more then a mediator then the six senses, her job is to help ghosts with unfinished business (for example, they could only move to the after life if their loved ones would stop blaming themselves for their death or something) who are still on earth and to move them into the afterlife. When she moves into her new bedroom, the biggest room in the household to be exact, she meets the long living ghost of that house, Jesse. Throughout the story both Jesse and Suze have each other backs when fighting ghosts (literally because things do get physical). Along the way you meet great characters like Father Dominic (principal of the Junipero Mission Academy-Suze’s school), Ceecee and Adam (Suze’s new best friends), Gina (Suze’s best friend back in New York), and one of the most love hate character Paul Slater (you’ll agree when you meet his character).
BOOK 7: REMEMBRANCE SYNOPSIS
Do not read this part if you have not completed the first 6 books as it has spoils
I honestly still can’t believe Meg made a 7th book for this series. Anyways, in this sweet tale, Suze has graduated high school and college. Woo! She’s even engaged with hot hunk Jesse. Jesse is Dr. de Silva, yup he is a hot doctor. As for Suze, she is working to become a counselor and is interning at our favourite place, the Mission Academy. Nothing has changed much, other then the fact that Suze and Jesse are now engaged! Unfortunately, this special someone always has to return and make a wreck, Paul Slater. Yup, Meg literally brought everybody back (even Jack Slater, Paul’s younger brother). Suze is finishing up some unfinished business with Paul, but of course old habits die hard and is kept a secret from Jesse. Suze being Suze trying to balance her life out with Jesse, Paul, Father Dominic (you’ll know why), her wedding, losing her virginity to Jesse, and her special gift as a mediator.
The series I would say is appropriate for 16+. The series talks about her wanting to be in a relationship and things like that but there is nothing graphic. There are kissing parts but like I said, nothing graphic.
---SPOILER PART*** if you haven’t finished reading the first 6 this part is a spoil, if you have finished there isn’t anything to spoil so continue reading
BUT, for Remembrance, it is targeted for an older audience (18+). Since this book talks about after she graduates college and is planning on marrying Jesse, she is still a virgin in this book. In this book they talk about sex, and there is a part (near end) where this start to get a little steamy between Suze and Jesse. Nothing compared to Fifty Shades of Grey though haha.
WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS THIS?
The book is a supernatural, sci-fi kind of book. Its not like your average vampire/werewolf scenario (which in my opinion is kind of overrated) which I like. But with aside from the super powers, there’s also romance, kind of weird when you talk about it, but I adore Jesse.
how can someone write 7 books and not have one that really sucks? lol
