Nan’s Good Luck Tea

So I made a post about my Nan passing away, and I mentioned a cup of tea she used to make before playing Bingo. I’ve had this so many times in my life and can confirm it works!

You will need:

Any kind of mint tea (I prefer peppermint bc that’s how my Nan made it)

Lemon juice (Only a few drops will do!)

Sugar (One spoon is enough is you dont like sugar but it’s needed to attract the luck and make it good!)

Your fave mug!

Add your tea to your mug (via tea leaf strainer or teabag) and add hot, not boiling water. Stir the water clockwise, as that action attracts, and add the lemon juice. (HOLY SHIT DO NOT ADD MILK I MADE THAT MISTAKE AND IT ALL COAGULATED). Anyway, add the sugar and continue stirring.

There you go! Good luck tea, drink one for my Nan, will you <3

Grandma’s Pumpkin Bread 🍂

Mabon is fast approaching so I thought now was a perfect time to bring out my Grandma’s famous pumpkin bread recipe! For me sabbats are all about connecting with family and sharing good food, so family recipes are a perfect fit. Better yet, the ingredients in this pumpkin bread have magical correspondences of protection, healing, and prosperity fitting for the transition from reaping season to the final harvest. I, for one, am using this as an opportunity to reset my intentions with the newly waxing moon as we launch full force into autumn.

Grandma’s Pumpkin Bread

Bake at 350 // 50 to 55 minutes // Makes 3 loaves

Beat 3 eggs

Add:

½ cup vegetable oil

2 cups canned pumpkin

1 tsp vanilla

3 cups sugar

Mix well…

Add:

3 cups all purpose flour (mix slowly!)

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ground cloves

1 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp nutmeg

Optional:

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans OR sprinkle raw, unsalted pumpkin seeds on top a bit before it is done!

Pour evenly into 3 loaf pans that have been sprayed and floured. Bake as directed and test with a toothpick inserted near middle. Cool on racks and wrap in foil.

Honey Milk for Restful Sleep

You’ll need:

✨1 cup of your favorite Milk

✨1 tsp+ of Honey

✨Cinnamon

✨Nutmeg

Warm the milk however is best for you. Mix in the honey to taste (I use extra) and add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or any spices you like here.

Enjoy!

This is a calming drink that’s common to have warm before bed, but I like it cool as well.

This is a good base for adding some magic too! Enchant your mug, draw sigils with the honey, or whatever works for you.

Morning Sun Cinnamon Tea 🌞

I love starting my day with a nice, hot cup of tea! It’s a great way to center and take advantage of the few moments you have with yourself before the day really starts. So I wanted to tap into the solar energies of cinnamon and allow the healing, lucky, and firey energy associated with cinnamon to give me a bit of a boost throughout the day.

Needed:

1 cinnamon stick or 1 tsp ground cinnamon- solar energy, good luck, healing, vigor, protection, love, fire energy

1 bag of black tea- due to its longer fermentation process, the tea itself is a stronger flavor, so I associate this tea with strength and grounding. Its medicinal properties are well recorded, so I also associate this with healing and absorbing (and cleansing) negativity.

8 oz boiling water- I like to use charged water for an added boost, but do what you like!

Optional additions: milk, honey, sweeteners, etc. All of these have their own properties, so choose accordingly.

To make, I boil the water, let the cinnamon steep for 8-10 minutes (you can let it steep while you run around getting ready!), remove the cinnamon stick (don’t throw it away, you can get another cup out of it) then add the black tea and let it steep for another 2-3 minutes. Add whatever you like, and enjoy!

As I drink, I like to visualize the sun’s rays literally glowing within the drink. As I continue drinking, they begin glowing within me. For me, this is a nice, calming way to help assert a sense of confidence in myself each morning, as I prepare to face the day. This can also be used as a simple morning devotional activity to bring you closer to your gods.

Note: Cinnamon is often used in natural remedies to lower blood sugar and increase insulin sensitivity. Basic Healing Spell for Another

This was written by coven member Deven Loschiavo.

Items: 

Picture of the person to be healed (or the actual person if preferred)

Red or white candle

Any healing crystal (quartz is good for for replacing any crystal, if there is no crystal dedicated specifically to healing)

Steps:

Set the picture in a sacred and safe place, such as on an alter or in a circle of space dedicated to this picture

Alternatively, if you feel strongly enough toward healing, you could set up a sacred space dedicated to healing and strengthening, like a regular circle, but with the intent and willpower to heal built into the circle (strengthen this by calling a deity you work with and asking for empowerment of the circle and amplification of healing). As long as you use this space for nothing else, it will grow stronger with each new working.

Place the candle at the top of the picture or person and the crystal/stone at the bottom or feet.

Chant this 3 times: “I call upon the element of Fire to help me with this spell. May your flame empower this healing and your warmth empower all those involved.”

Light the candle

Touch the crystal/stone or pick it up if you prefer, and chant this 3 times: “I call upon the element of the Earth. Help me with this spell, may your strength empower this healing, and your calmness extend to all those involved.”

Put the crystal/stone back down and instead place your hands on the sides of the picture, or above the person (or just get into a comfortable position).

Then chant this 3 times: “By the power within me, and the blessings of <deity name> (if using one, otherwise “any who will help” will do), I use my will and my energy to heal <person to be healed>, may his/her wounds heal, his/her trauma disappear, his/her worries and troubles bother him/her nevermore.”

Let the words resonate as the flame goes out naturally.

As desired, repeat the last chant every day until the flame goes out.

Connecting with Deities for Beginners

First: religious or spiritual belief is entirely optional in witchcraft. Your own divinity and power to manifest does not reduce because you’re not throwing food at your altar for a “patron deity” every week. In fact, patron deities are a lot rarer than tumblr might have you believe. Allow this process to be what it is - a process. Allow time to discover your spiritual home. There’s no rush. You’ve lived lifetimes and you will live more. 

If you feel called toward connecting with deity, here’s my advice: write. Writing forces you to slow your thinking down and truly consider your ideas, thoughts, and desires. Writing pieces of yourself down puts them into the universe. 

Take these ideas into a journal that you’ve chosen with an intention to be a place for spiritual work. It can be a Book of Shadows or something else. Try these prompts - if you don’t know the answers to these questions, it’s an opportunity to dive into yourself!

1. Numbers: Are there numbers you’ve felt drawn to? Do you have any lucky numbers? Do things always work out the first time you try them, or does it seem to always take three - or seven? Do your relationships with others come in twos or fives? Does your birthday mean anything to you? What about your birth time, or place? If there’s a number you feel at home with, explore it! What deities are related to it? What direction? In my case, 3 is incredibly powerful in all aspects of my life. I’ve found Vishnu and Auset to be my focal points and recognize 3 in them. Vishnu has had 9 incarnations (3x3) and Auset recovered Ausar from the dead to become pregnant and give birth to their child.

2. Animals: Yes, everyone has an opinion about cats or dogs. But maybe you find yourself watching spiders closely rather than jumping away, or the finches in your yard carry weight when you see them. Maybe you found yourself getting a dragonfly tattoo out of nowhere, or there’s something about the octopus that gets your heart swelling with intrigue. Write these down. Check the World Wildlife Foundations adoptable endangered species. Which would you choose? What element or directions do you associate these animals with? Which ones do you want to experiment calling upon? 

3. Music: I don’t mean the radio. Think about the music you go to when you’re emotionally well; not full of happiness, not in a valley of sadness or pain. What do you like to study to, meditate to? What songs come on when you’re out at restaurants? Is there a song that just pops up at the strangest or most needed of times? Look at the words, the genre, the meaning of these songs or these types of music. If you’re into soundscapes, seek out elemental or nature deities. If you like hip-hop, seek out deities who are playful or assertive. Classical could lead you to deities of balance or justice. Try making music, just with your hands on the table. What rhythms do you find yourself producing? What’s your vibration? 

4. Joyous Moments: What makes you happy? Maybe bath bombs aren’t your thing, but tea in the morning is. Do you like being surrounded by friends, family, or strangers? Write down the moments of your life where you felt the most blissful. Write down what moments you want to collect before this life has ended. What deities reflect similar habits or goals? If you want to backpack along the Ganges or in Europe, think about deities of travel and movement. If you want to build a family, look at Mother Goddesses.   

5. Weirdnesses: This might be the most important and will require slowly opening your inner eye. Look! For! Weirdness! These are not coincidences, these are communications. Track your moods, your feelings, your interactions. Did a friend mention a film or historical figure that’s been in the back of your mind lately? Did that license plate you read have the initials of someone you care about? What imagery or feelings keep appearing in your dreams? Do you keep finding pennies everywhere you go? If you’re not experiencing weirdnesses in your life, throw yourself into a new situation, new people, hobby, or activity. Breaking routine is an excellent way to invite the universe to have a hand in authoring your day. 

These are simple journaling activities to help you place yourself in the greater world we occupy. Spiritual journeys are deep, personal, and a long-term commitment. Don’t choose a deity just because they’re popular, or you feel like you need one. 

Spirit guides are already here, waiting for you to listen. The more you reflect on the inner workings of your mind and heart, the more you’re saying YES to magic and saying YES to ascension.
