Wildfires in northern Ontario force First Nations to flee

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.

“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”

The KIDS act (which contains KOSA) passed the US house, so I would recommend calling your senators and telling them to vote in opposition. I don't think I need to stress the importance of being able to use the internet freely and without privacy barriers being breached.

There are many scripts online you can follow, many ways to tweak your message to fit your senator (ESPECIALLY if they are up for reelection this year). Whether it's a recording you reach or a real person, be straightforward, don't argue, just let your rep know that you are a constituent and you oppose the KIDS act, etc.

Here is where you can search for your senator... call, email, fax, bring them physical letters, show up in person to their offices if you are able.

This Juneteenth I want people to know and remember Alfred Irving who was finally freed from chattel slavery in 1942 and Mae Louis Miller who was finally freed from peonage slavery in 1963.

Slavery was not "200 years ago," the last living former enslaved african american passed away in 2014 at 70 years old.

Chattell slavery in America did not go away, it adapted. It became peonage, sharecropping, vagrancy laws, "chain gangs" or convict leasing, and continues into the modern day prison system and the systematic incarceration of black and brown people and expanded to forced detention of immigrants in modern day America.

Do not believe the common narrative that the emancipation proclamation freed every slave. There are many more who were unable to tell their stories out of shame or fear of harm.

I reccomend that people read Slavery by Another Name by Douglas A. Blackmon or watch the 90 minute documentary / film adaptation

If nothing else please remember the names of the two people that American society wants you to forget.

if you're wondering why people on twitter-sorry the elon muX site are saying that the backrooms movie was ghost-directed by somebody else, it's probably because of three reasons:

1)They don't think a movie based on the Backrooms should be made because it's cringe or something

2) The fact that Kane Pixels has made a highly anticipated movie at age 18 is pissing them off because how the hell did this dude manage to get a popular film studio to not only produce his film but also create tons of hype for it when he is not even twenty

3) They don't like the idea of YouTubers becoming filmmakers. This is the one I think the most of the backlash comes out since Obsession (which is also directed by a youtuber) also got accused of being ghost directed by somebody else for some reason. Like I understand that some of the previous Youtuber-made movies (like the Fred trilogy, F the Prom, To Boldly Flee) made some people a bit hesitant of online creators doing filmmaking, but still.

Major nitpick: SGE seems to present its world as a strictly fairy-tale one when it isn't. Peter and Wendy has magical elements, but it's more of a portal fantasy than a fairy tale. Zeus is mentioned in One True King, and myths are not the same as fairy tales. Fables (e.g., "The Scorpion and the Frog") are also different. Sometimes I wonder why SGE didn't explicitly conclude with the Woods being a realm of all stories, and fairy tales have just been hogging the limelight.

a. saw an article written by some random guy on Substack where it talked about a Wikipedia editor being part of a smear campaign against the celebrity in question and thought it was about her
