HEUCHERA

This week's Rhombus House Garden post is a simple PSA to let you know that I fucking love Heuchera (aka Coralbells).

They're shade tolerant, perennial and hardy in zone 4, divisible every 2-3 years so that then you have twice as many heucheras. They're native from Ontario to Georgia and Nebraska to Louisiana.

They are the "oops all berries!" of garden plants with leaves as bright and colorful as the flowers of other plants.

One of the things that impressed me the most about Dungeon Crawler Carl (mind you, I went in with zero expectations) is that not only it manages to turn a talking cat into fully realized, complex character who is still unmistakably *a cat*, but also that the cental relationship of the series - this kind of strong, unshakable bond between the main characters that never fails to make you emotional over how much they mean for each other - is unmistakably a relationship between a man and a cat. Not just nominally, but in a way that is instantly recognizable for anyone who ever owned and loved a cat. And mind you, it's not for the lack of other relationships - Carl finds new friends and comrades, and each of them is important for him in their own right, but still THE most important person in his life is a cat and as a cat person I think that's beautiful

sometimes there are lines in the dungeon crawler carl book series that hit me like, “how can we make it to heaven if god doesn’t recognize us?” from a person who’s been transformed both physically and mentally by the dungeon or “sometimes parents can cast a shadow so thick, you can drown in it,” from a character who recognizes he was a shitty father to his fucking kid who died and it lands like a sucker punch

and then you remember there’s also a talking cat eating cherries from dirty Shirleys while a guy has to run around in boxers bc the AI thinks it’s funny. whiplash, dude lol
