You’ll forgive me if I point out I’m not certain it was the wisest decision to go out into all of this.[She motioned to the destruction around them, but moved closer to him again despite her words.] But I’d be lying if I didn’t appreciate the idea behind it. We should get your shoulder looked at. 

I have to agree with you in hindsight. [He took a chance in reaching out lightly touching her arm] I was at St. Mungo’s for the hours after the attack, and they let me go with a warning that it may be stiff for a little bit.

[Rosmerta squeezes tighter, noting that he doesn’t pull away. Which is good. He needs all the comfort he can get right now. There is nothing to say that will make it better, all she can do is be there for him and try and comfort him.]

[He nodded as he listened, sipping his drink as he contemplated it.] You have a soft spot for little girls? What I mean to ask is what happened the last time 

I don’t think that is it. Maybe it is a familiarity thing. I grew up in a town like that, and here I am.

I’m glad it’s getting easier. That makes sense. With time I imagine it will get easier. Until then, simply keep going is as good a plan as any I’ve heard. 

[nods] It’s the only one I have right now, so we can only hope it continues to work.

You did. It just seems nothing is going as planned tonight. [She admitted softly, as she watched him, offering him a small smile.] I’m certainly not ready to face it alone, so I’m grateful for your company. I simply don’t want you to feel obligated. [She told him softly as she sat down at the small table the elf had set a tray up on.] Facing it together seems infinitely better.

You can say that again. [He moved to sit as well] I am not here out of obligation. The terms may not be ideal, but I want to be.

[She smiled happily as she followed his lead, taking a deep breath once they’re out on the balcony.] I certainly can’t argue with you there. I think things are best when it’s just us, and stealing a few moments before we’re swept away in this is brilliant.

[She nodded as she listened, not making any move to speak in the silence.] You should have had more time. It was a terrible accident. But I feel certain. No matter what you were his son and you not only decided to blaze a path for yourself, but you are succeeding. That is what every parent wants for their child. It sometimes takes time to come around, but in their hearts they are so proud when we find our own way. [She reached for his hand, forgetting what propriety and rules said and just going on instincts.]

[He squeezed her hand, not thinking about it either] I hope so. I really do. It’s just... hard.

I am glad that you are here. However, I just wish it didn’t feel like it was all fake. [She shook her head.] A lie of omission is just as bad as an outright lie. we are planning a wedding, a life  and you never one thought you should mention this to me. Hearing this from you would have been hard, but so much less than finding these letters. Hearing you try to defend it now.

It wasn’t, Francesca. I fell for you, and I was afraid to so much as ask if you would have come with me had everything fallen through. I wanted to tell you, I just- there were so many conditions. I was never taught how to navigate these things, and I was doing all I could to figure it out.

[She perked up a little at his words, mentally hexing the waiter who interrupted, she smiled at his question though she was curious about what he was wondering she went with the shift in conversation.] It was good. I did a bit of Christmas shopping. I found the most perfect shoes for Alecto.

You are incredibly prepared, aren’t you? I’ll be lucky to be done a month from now.

[nods once and pulls his bag higher up on his shoulder before leaving without so much as sparing a look back for his own sake more than anything else]

[nods, unsure how to respond to that] Just... how bad of shape was she in? It can be difficult for me to talk to her about this sort of thing.

[Alecto was relatively impressed with how the festivities came into place, though from all the effort and thought she knew Francesca was putting into them, that didn’t come as much of a surprise. Leaving one conversation, she turned away from the bar, only to find herself face to face with the man being celebrated that evening.] It’s alright. I trust you’re enjoying your birthday and no longer being a teenager.

I am. Both are proving to be excellent so far.
