Ok while I totally agree with Martin that they should go kick some monster butt, I can also totally understand what has made Jon feel the way he does, and that any use of his powers is evil and Wrong.

First we get the girls in s4, who when they learned that he had been taking statements from strangers, expressed nothing but disgust towards him. He was made to feel like he was a horrible, disgusting monster for what he did, and people got angry with him any time he used his powers, even accidentally.

Then Jon talks to Helen, and he asks her when his guilt gets taken from him and he becomes fully a monster. Helen tells him, the guilt is never taken; it's given up. So now he's taught that you fully become a monster when you no longer feel guilty for using your powers.

So now Jon is left believing that he's twisted and disgusting for what he has become, and only monsters feel good about using their powers. This is what has left him with so much guilt and shame, and why he's so ashamed about what he did to not!sasha even though like... you killed an evil monster? I mean, good job buddy.

I hope at some point we're going to find a balance of Jon accepting himself as he is, and not see himself as horrible and disgusting, and understanding that he can be what he is without being evil.

Jon being able to switch the gaze of the eye and make the monsters the victims sort of reminds me of a guest for Mr Spider when his bully became the victim instead of Jon because of a random act of cruelty.

There's a lot of reasons why Jon doesn't feel okay with having power now, but I wonder if that ties in as well.

It wasn't Jon's fault the Bully decided to smack the book out of his hands, but knowing how Jon thought of himself I wonder if him blames himself for being someone 'deeply annoying' that the bully would target which lead to his death.

The apocalypse is like that. Jon really had no control over it, but maybe he thinks because of who he is it's the reason it happened.
