I'm all setup for @nightofartists at @shopbdc_! Night of Artists runs Friday to Sunday! I'm pleased with my setup, and doesn't the triangular painting look good there? Yes, I definitely didn't forget it at home and then have a panic attack when I realized it wasn't there. Nope, I was really calm and rational! 😅😂 The actual triangular painting, Terra Magnifica, will be there tomorrow for sure! Thank you so much to my amazing sister @foxymcb and BiL @thechrisyeung for their invaluable help setting up (and my parents, who I can't tag because they don't do any socials, but are still very appreciated). Clifftop. This is it. Properly it. This is the last new thing that's coming to @nightofartists with me this Friday to Sunday, March 17-19. I finished this ethereal storybook linocut this afternoon, so I printed a couple and I think they're good. So I'll have a limited selection of the five prints, a lot of paintings, a poster, and some drawings. Now, I need to stop distracting myself! I need to make labels and an apple crisp and sleep. I'm really excited for this weekend! The last painting for @nightofartists this weekend is done. I'm done. That's it. Nothing else is being finished for this event. This was the first painting started for the Quiet Night In series and the one that spurred the other three (the last one will be done at a later date, as it stands). I put an unnecessary amount of pressure on the result this painting, which caused it to stall out twice and get a major repaint tonight, but ultimately, I think it's come out better than could be expected. The series was supposed to be actual, real quiet evenings in (to qualify that: as real as I do anything), but they took on a life of their own and got quite fantastic in the end. But to be honest, they feel how I wanted them to. They have a feeling of home, of warmth, of comfort, of stability, and, most of all, serenity, which was key to the whole idea of the series. Having time and a place to reflect and be without expectation is something to be grateful for. Sunday Night. The Greenman and Radio Free Everywhere are actually printed and drying! I am so unbelievably happy that this is finally real! I ran out of paper, so the Owl on the Moon (needs a better name) didn't get printed last night, but I'm off to get more soon. You can see a glimpse of the second attempt at the Biblionaut in blue. The blue ink wasn't working as well for me, but it was also 2am, so it was time to pack it in. Lots is trial and error as I try to remember every thing from Art school like 20 years ago, but over all... The beaver family is assembled at last! With the third beaver popping up out of its hole last night. The beavers will be mounted to the piece of popular and available to buy at @nightofartists March 17-19! ...and then I started the Coffee & Tea Couple (though I they will probably be available to buy separately). I had this idea ages ago and really wanted to get it done for Night of Artists. I got a pretty decent start on them last night - though the face with the coffee mug is too long, so I'll have to trim it today. I'll probably give this idea a second try later - had another idea for it - but these two will be a relaxed addition to any lazy Sunday! A record of Friday night. I think it's done? Is it? That doesn't feel possible... I took out the rock at the bottom right because it wasn't working for me. The mysterious island looks pretty mysterious... Maybe it is done? I was considering adding a couple more elements, but I think it will get too crowded. I am going to have it so that it can be hung with any side at the top. That is very necessary! I still don't have a name for it... Terra Magnifica is the current working title. I want to use a name from an old exploration journal, but I've come to understand googling that is rather difficult somehow. One week until the @nightofartists @amyshouseedmonton gala. This triangular painting needs a snappy name, but I've been to busy constantly realizing that I still haven't finished the ship to come up with one (how have I not gone back to it yet?!) I've also finished cutting the Owl on the Moon linocut and started a new version of the Biblionaut because I don't think I'm going to be satisfied with the first version now. @nightofartists prep is nearly complete with a week and change to go! Three linocut ready to print! The owl and bat from yesterday are going to get done as prints too, I've decided. I think that will best bring out their nocturnal attributes. The sloth is on hold for now as it doesn't fit with with them. I may do it up as a watercolour at some point. As the last two 3D paintings I had planned for Night of Artists are nearing completion, I've started planning a delightful complex project I hope to have ready. I love the idea of a boat in a bottle, so I'm making my own. With lots of moving parts, like the Terror at the Lighthouse painting I did last year. The Island in the Sun. I found this digital painting I did about two years ago in Clip Studio Paint (where I do Recipe for Disaster right now). I don't remember any of the digital paintings I did then as being very good and I largely abandoned the medium. But looking at it now, I'm a little impressed with myself! This is much better than I remember this painting looking. I have an exhibit up at the Glenrose in the Mezzanine Gallery! A lot of these paintings have never been shown before, what with Covid and all, so it's nice to finally see them up! I also have a piece in the @albertasocietyofartists show Memory and Dreams which is in Calgary at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium until April 8 and in Edmonton from April 17 until August 14 at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium!
