4. I'm glad you’re back and I’m super excited!!!

I practiced a lot of vibrato in the ground and also in Romanian folk dances, especially during the shifting. I also practiced the interpretation of all of the pieces. This will allow me to understand how to play the piece the way the composer wrote it to be played. Lastly, I went over the key change and how many flats and sharps to play so that my intonation was spot on. I went over each note with a metronome and played it slowly until it was green on the metronome and matched.

This is me cutting it out!!!!!! It was my first time cutting out anything with a jigsaw. I was a little nervous in the beginning but it was a cool and fun experience.

UGHHH IDK WHAT TO DO!

So I’m still debating on what I want to do about this! I know that I would love to help my community but I don’t know how. I want to play for the little kids, but it’s been pretty difficult trying to arrange a time to do it with the little kids. I might not do this because even if I played for the children with disabilities it would still be difficult. I’ve been contacting several people trying to get a time slot to volunteer and show these kids, but I still haven’t found anything. I think I’m going to do something else, a little different I just don’t know what to do yet...

NEW IDEA FOR MY CELLO!!!

SO I just got the BEST idea EVER!!!!!!! So because of my love for music which has also been inspired and influenced by my community. I would love to give back to my community and show them how much I truly appreciate them. I think because of my experience in DPS I want to kinda show them that they will do fine and they can do more than what the stereotypes say about them. I want them to know that society can label you but can not restrict you. Go outside of your comfort zone. This message will be spread by going to the schools and playing for the younger grades probably like K-5 or something. Just to show them a different music and help them find a hope. :)

I’M MAKING A CELLO!!

So there’s this class called, Personal Project, and we have to make anything that we want to do. We don’t even have to necessarily make anything, we can just do something that you personally connect with. Soooooooo, I was going to do something with swimming because I LOVE to swim! But I also love music. Music is inspirational and I would love to not just create my own music but I also would like to make my own instrument!!!! YAY! I’m actually super geeked about this! :)

Blog #1 2017-2018

1. MY name is Lauryn Collins. I am a sophomore and I have been playing the cello since sixth grade which makes it 4 years. I also play the piano and I sing.

2. I practiced quite a bit. It was on a regular basis, like daily.

3. I am looking forward to more challenging music and fellow musicians who want to accomplish the same goals that I have in mind.

Cello helps me say so much, even though my mouth isn’t moving.

I also practiced pirates of the Caribbean and danse. Those are my two favorite pieces, that we have played so far this year. I worked on dynamics and notes in pirates. and in danse I worked on intonation. It was the few measures in Pirates that i worked on intonation mostly. It was the part with all the accidentals preparing us for a key change. I practiced these two songs for about 45 minutes.

I practiced Ani Maamim today because it is one of my worse songs. I specifically worked on the flow of the 16th notes in the beginning. I also worked on the shifts in some of the slurs. This song isn’t as challenging as I thought it was in the beginning. I also worked on intonation in this song because there are several notes that are constantly out of tune. I practiced for about 30 minutes. (Strictly this piece)

This is after i practiced intonation. i still had a few problems but it was a very productive practice.

Today I experimented with the different sounds. I used several different online metronomes and tried to stay committed to my part without messing up. I did get confused a few times but, I quickly recovered which was nice to know due to the fact that I am the section leader. I also practiced my tone. I practiced this by practicing the song with the bpm very slow. I also used the bow closer to the bridge and farther away. On the eighth notes i worked on keeping the bow in the same place constantly.

My 1st Blog= Catastrophe

Alright, so this is my first blog and I really don’t know what you expect. But I will do my best to fit the requirements. I sound so serious..... lol. I hope you don't mind but I'd rather have this be more fun and intriguing rather than a boring, required assignment. So here are the answers to your questions.

2. Literally like there wasn't a day I didn't practice.. (much exaggeration) but I practiced a lot. I also went to BLFAC this year so you know that was a lot of work .

3. I’m looking for a new experience. Something I can take with me and run with it. You know? Something that most orchestras don't have,,,

4. Mrs. Mayes I just encourage you to have fun and enjoy the class as much as I do. It's more fun and exciting when the teacher is fun and exciting.😉
