Gregor & Luxa

But could you imagine Gregor with a therapy dog? It’s agreed that he has ptsd, and maybe even survivor’s guilt, after CoC. 

He gets nightmares and has trouble eating and focusing. It’s hard for him to adjust and come to terms with what he’s been through, especially since he can’t exactly go to a professional doctor for help.

 But he can get a service dog. One that’s been trained to help people during flashbacks. Who is there to comfort Gregor after another blood-filled nightmare. Who soothes Gregor when his dark thoughts start taking over. 

And Gregor’s nightmares slowly fade away. And he remembers to eat, maybe not for every meal but he’s getting there. He gets less flashbacks now. And when he finds he needs to talk he will sit in the dark of his room, his hands shakily petting his dog, Mars, and he’ll whisper all the things he’s never been able to say aloud.

And he heals.

TUC AU story outline?

This is kinda complicated but hear me out:

The fireflies never find Gregor and bring him back to Regalia, and Ripred can’t save his family at the plain of Tartarus. As a result, for one reason or another, he wakes up in the same cavern instead of the hospital. Waking up alone next to his dead bond he feels abandoned and rejected, and proceeds to wander the dead lands until he finds an entrance to the Overland. Bitter, hurt, and probably starving, he leaves the Underland behind and fights tooth and nail to regain as normal a life as he can on his own. He gets into college, gets a job, maybe takes up a sport and finally thinks he can live a normal life (i like the idea that he ghost-writes the Underland Chronicles books for Collins as a way to get it off his chest). One day though Luxa and a few of his Underland friends show up (exploring the overland, speaking tour, diplomatic work, idk.) and find him after 6/7ish years of thinking he was dead. His overland friends find out about his past, and hilarity/drama/closure ensues.

Don’t hate me for killing the Campbell clan, but it opens up some interesting possibilities for Gregor’s reunion with Ripred (he had promised to keep Gregor’s family alive/safe). I feel like this would allow a story with romance and conflict and drama etc. with some interesting twists (maybe he goes back to find one of his sisters is alive!?)

So, I’m reading again The Underland Chronicles and I noticed something. Remember in the prophecy of Bane when Vikus and Gregor analyze the prohecy for the first time and they make a brief reference to snow while talking of the Bane? The part goes like this:

“It is,” said Gregor. “There’s snow everywhere right now. It makes everything look better.” It did, too, when it had just fallen. It covered up the dirt and trash, and for a while the city looked clean and fresh. And then it turned to slush.

What if this is actually a comparison with the Bane? I mean, at the beginning, when Gregor found him, he seemed so small, harmless and scared that no-one would have thought he could really harm someone. Then Gregor brought him to Ripred and it seemed that the whole situation was solved and there wasn’t any danger left. But really, it was just covering the dirt. In fact, the Bane grew up and lost his mind, bringing out again the fears and all at their worst and turning himself and everything else to slush.

Gregor + his scars

Marks left by squid suckers, vines, pinchers, teeth, claws. Then there were the wounds he’d made on his hands when he’d broken Sandwich’s sword less than a day ago. His skin was like a map where you could trace all the terrible things that had happened.
