My current game dev project is a prototype called PROJECT: FINAL LEGEND. It's a mixture of various games that I love: - FPS parkour/stealth gameplay inspired by Destiny and Warframe! - puzzles and dungeons inspired by The Legend of Zelda! - turn-based battles and other JRPG elements inspired by Final Fantasy! - class and companion systems inspired by Golden Sun!

The Destiny 2 community is the only community that I interact with that actively strays away from wanting exclusive shit from doing challenging content.

Like how the hell has only less than 10% of the community even done a normal mode raid, let alone how few have actually done a flawless?

It just genuinely bewilders me that instead of even trying and maybe getting a bit better, people will just act like some of the best content in the game doesn't exist for them.

It just irritates and confuses me how a game community refuses to get better at their own game.

In all seriousness though, there is no way Amanda isn’t coming back as a Guardian. They have all but told us that this season.

She was given a place of prominence from even the start of Lightfall. She’s gotten cutscenes, missions, interactions with player and non-player characters, and we even got a whole lore dedicated cut-scene for her and a lore book.

Not to mention, they have been driving home how brave she is and how much she is willing to sacrifice for the safety of those around her. She daydreams about being a Guardian out loud several times and wishes she could do more if she was a LightBearer. They keep bringing up her relationship with Crow and showing them slowly healing because it matters outside of his vengeance quest. And she will get her memories one way or the other, they wouldn’t have done all this stuff if she didn’t.

Amanda has too much background and too much to lose to kill her now mid-season. And the MOST important thing is that we actually got a line in one of the Neomuna news casts about them finding a Ghost without a partner. There is already a Ghost ready to go to bring her back, we just have to wait a bit until it finds her.

I started putting together tags but my thoughts on this are too complex for that.

Wouldn't it be fucked up if we have all the leadup and hints that Holliday was gonna get Risen and then they just... Didn't do that?

Wouldn't it hit home just how fucked everything is if they showed Zavala chanting the Guardian creed at her grave, wishing so very hard that the Light will give her back to him... And it just doesn't happen?

Wouldn't it be fuckin great if they wrote a cohesive story with risks and high stakes and a price to pay?

If they bring back Holliday as a Guardian, I'm going to quit the game for good. I can't keep caring about a world where nothing fuckin matters.

Like, at that point why not just revive Cayde again? Or the rest of Eris's fireteam? Or Sjur Eido? Or the fireteam from Savathun's Song? Or the literal thousands of Guardians killed by Crota? The three who got Slap Chop'd at the start of Lightfall?

And why stop there? Revive Savathun again! Make Oryx a Guardian! FUCK YOU, MAKE RHULK AND NEZAREC GUARDIANS TOO.

The major problem I have with Destiny right now is that there ARE NO STAKES. Every price paid, every sacrifice made, every loss suffered... It all affects the characters in the world. It affects Zavala, Crow, Ghost, Nimbus... But it doesn't affect ME.

Lightfall promised to be the big splash into the deepend of the literal end of reality. I was expecting to lose our Light again. Maybe we try the same trick as during the Red War, but the Shadow Legion has captured the Shard of the Traveler. Fuck! They put a fuckin PYRAMID SHIP AROUND IT. Time to storm it, free the prisoners, and get our Light back!

Or maybe we lose our Light and we have to draw from within ourselves, similar to how we did with Stasis at the end of Beyond Light. Stasis comes from within us. And Strand comes from all living things. But the Light explicitly comes from the Traveler... Right?

"The Light Lives In All Places... In All Things... You Can Block It... Even Try To Trap It... But The Light Always Finds Its Way."

The Red War taught us that we still need help getting our Light. We can't find it and take it ourselves. Taking is the way of the Darkness. Giving is the way of the Light.

And now that the Traveler is seemingly inert... How do we still have our Light? People are acting like, and in some cases literally SAYING, that the Traveler is dead. Ghost mentions that he can't hear its call anymore. He feels disconnected from the Light.

It's so GREAT that Ghost is disconnected and scared and lost...

Wouldn't it be great...

...if we felt anything even remotely similar?

There is no gameplay effects of the Traveler getting Aetherpunk Pukehole Disorder inflicted on it by the Witness. We feel nothing. We experience no loss. We see no change.

The stakes set in the lore are high. But from the perspective of the player... We got a cool cyperpunk city to play in, a new enemy type, a new subclass, and some more repetitive gameplay loops every week.

I don't feel the "loss" of the Traveler.

I feel the loss of Holliday.

She was my favorite character in the Tower, I loved her characterization, she was a nice addition to the cast of non-paracausal beings we interacted with. She wasn't immortal, she wasn't magical, she wasn't special inherently. She was skilled and talented and brave and cool. Losing her really fuckin hurt.

It was the first time since Beyond Light that I felt directly engaged by the game. Those bastards TOOK her from us! Fuck yeah, Crow! Let's go fuck their shit up!

Could her death have been less mundane? Sure. I wish the reward for her sacrifice wasn't just... A tiny group of nameless, faceless NPCs we'll never see again. But losing Holliday has HUGE implications for future storytelling. No more air support for you, Guardian! The only pilot we had crazy AND skilled enough enough to fly DIRECTLY OVER AN ENEMY BASE without getting blown the fuck up is fuckin dead now.

If they bring her back... It'll really just completely fuckin invalidate that engagement I got from her death.

I know that death is not a barrier to many characters (I mean, there's a whole meme about a single character who KEEPS COMING BACK no matter how many times we kill him), but you gotta have stakes. I wanted the City to fall again. I wanted to get FORCED to setup shop on Neomuna because it's the ONLY PLACE LEFT for us. I wanted that huge watchtower to be full of refugees and the entirety of Vanguard command. Maybe the last prison complex isn't some macguffin orbital shit, but it was placed DIRECTLY inside the Last City. I wanted to lose another Tower. I wanted to get forced back to the Farm or something.

Instead, I got a bunch of ships instead of a big ball.

Yippee.

I have nothing else to say. Holliday's death was meaningful and impactful and a huge deal, even if I knew it was coming a mile off. Just hope that loss stays.

Any employer that's loud and proud about "equal opportunity" is full of shit 100% of the time.

I live in MASSACHUSETTS and the amount of times I've seen people balk at my physical countenance after looking at my resume and seeing the name of a "cute girl" is distressing. And the amount of people who've outright abused me is fucking disgusting.

Like, I met an administrator for a personal assistant position and he legit froze when he saw me. He stared for a really long moment before saying, and I quote, "Yeah no, I'm no f*g." and then walked out.

Another one met me and she asked IN A JOB INTERVIEW: "How do you feel about the fact" (SHE SAID THE WORD FACT HERE) "that trans women are inherently sexually predatory?" I stared at her before saying "As a transfemme rape victim, that is incredibly insulting." She smiled and said "We're done here." before leaving me in the meeting room without another word.

One job that I had for a few months ended when I had to take time off for a life-saving surgery. When I tried to go back, my boss wasn't answering my calls. I tried to contact HIS boss (who was very hands-on with the working of the company; everyone had his number) and he didn't pick up either. I got an email the next day that read: "We don't accept sexually predatory individuals among our staff." It went on to detail SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS that did NOTHING but confirm me as non-conforming gender. It ended with effectively "be grateful we're not taking you to court you fuckin freak" but in much cleaner language.

And y'know what? All of that pales in comparison to my longest-running most successful job. That shit eended because a new boss took over my workplace, found out I was non-conforming gender, and just... Took me off the schedule. I still kept going in to cover other people's shifts, like for my buddy to be with his partner for Valentine's Day. And it was on Valentine's Day that the boss used slurs to refer to me, physically assaulted me by shoving me out of my workspace, destroyed a large amount of my supplies needed to do my job, and then called the cops to have me removed. I hadn't spoken to him at all that day because I knew that saying anything would just give him ammo.

I filed several complaints to the company, even pressed charges, and... Nothing happened. He still works for the company. I got nothing. The company rep didn't show up for the court date. And then to drive the point WAY home, the judge threw out the case on the grounds of "mental infirmity". The company didn't even need to represent itself. I ended up being required to do two weeks in a psych hospital to assure I wasn't a danger, during which time I was subjected to attempts at fucking conversion therapy.

So when people say "equal opportunity" what they mean is "we won't TELL you that we're fucking you over due to your protected demographic status". They'll just do it. Then cite mental illness and sexual predation as justified reasoning for their actions. They're completely unassailable. The system is MADE to serve THEM.

And y'know what seriously fucking INFURIATES me? Y'all keep telling me that it gets better. That it's so wonderful and lovely that I'm being true to myself. That there are so many people who love and support me and SHUT. THE FUCK. UP.

WHERE IS THAT LOVE AND SUPPORT??? SERIOUSLY. FUCKIN WHERE???

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PERSECUTION AND ABUSE SINCE I CAME OUT TO THE POINT THAT I KEEP HAVING CRISES OF CONSCIOUS ABOUT WHETHER SOLVING MY DYSPHORIA WOULD BE MORE HELPFUL THAN THE TRAUMA SUSTAINED.

AND I LIVE IN THE PROGRESSIVE STATE.

Seriously, spare me the fuckin niceties. The world will always be my enemy and nothing will ever change. My only hope is to seclude myself as much as possible until I progress far enough to pass fully as one gender or the other.

Until then, I guess I'll just keep being something I hate: a liar, a faker, and a man.
