This movie was so unapologetically New York it was wonderful.

Bad Bunny started playing and my theater started cheering. There’s a halal butcher shop next to a bodega, the kid Peter saved is a wearing a Knicks jersey and there’s a random tourist bus that’s filled with people wearing tacky New York merchandise. My favorite detail is when Empire State turned on its lights to support Spiderman just like how it does in real life with actual events.

The city is alive, vibrant, and in tune with Spider-Man and we see it become its own character rather than just a background setting. Peter finally interacts with the city again as a figure and as a person as well. There’s people who talk to him, who try to help in battles and these are all the moments that make the city a living and breathing home for Peter Parker and Spiderman together.

Tom Holland has such a better Queens accent too and the final moments of the movie are the end credits of everyday New Yorkers living their lives. Just parks, shots of our skyline and the people who make up the city. Idk but like I’m a New Yorker, and I just looked around in my theater and I saw so many people like me all wearing Spiderman merch who were all able to look on screen and see our home represented perfectly.

In my opinion, wondering whether or not you’re a good person or a bad person isn’t really a constructive or useful activity.

You’re too close to yourself to make that kind of judgement. You’re not really qualified to judge the exterior of a house that you’re always standing inside of.

Anyways since I’ve switched to the mindset of “I’m just gonna keep trying and not try to pass final judgement on myself because that’s above my pay grade” I have unsurprisingly had way less nights sobbing on the floor convinced that I’m a terrible irredeemable piece of human garbage.

Am I good? Am I bad? Not my business. I’m just gonna keep trying to do better and let the cards fall where they may.

My relationship with myself has improved a lot in general since I stopped trying to reach perfection.

Am I even expected to be perfect? Nah. I’m just some guy. Am I a good guy? A bad guy? A neutral guy? I dunno. I’m just a guy that’s trying. And that’s fine.

Me and myself don’t need to be in competition with each other for absolute perfection. We can just hang out. Eat a sandwich. Get some stuff done. Take a nap. Try to do a little better. That’s all we can do, really.

since one of my besties did this here's some general spiderman thoughts from me bc I can post

I freaking love spiderman more now I feel like he grew more and really grew into his own skin (obviously that comes with him being like a real adult now but yk what I mean)

jean Grey's powers are genuinely scary and yet so cool

Ned being canonically one of the first people to actually remember peter is perfect. and it makes sense bc scent and muscle memory will always be stronger than working memory

frank is literally such a cool character and his dynamic with peter is great

I think yelena was the best possible character that peter could have gone to for advice bc not only did she give advice for being a superhero she gave advice for him emotionally and after thunderbolts I didn't blame her

seeing may again was literally the best and worst things ever bc I love her and miss her

knowing that the last thing Sarah saw was a vent in a prison cell was genuinely heart breaking

also knew he was the bad guy after he came out all calm and collected like 'Spider-Man there are just some things I can't tell you' and like usually the guy who's in charge of a big company or image of like supernatural stuff is a bad guy

etc there's probably more but I can't think of any rn

there's something so special to me about ned, who always seems to be sidelined by the writers for peter and mj, being the one to remember peter before even mj could. the way he was trying to unmask spiderman for himself, the way it felt like he needed to find him, and the way it was still muscle memory for their handshake, the handshake that triggered the memories. heck i really do feel like the movie was setting up for ned to remember the whole time.

One thing that I really really adored in the Hadestown proshot was the camera focusing on the musicians occasionally. It was such a nice detail to me because all of them are so talented and I like seeing their expressions while the play is going on in the background
