So Recently i keep hearing people say "the UB sets and all these extra sets are good for the game" Are they though? think about how much is getting dropped just for standard and how little of that is actually original products that aren't just a retread on something else that has already been established it's nonsense it use to be coreset that stayed essentally the same the one block coming in and the one block going out a perfect eco system that kept everything healthy and made the game designers put synergy in-between sets easier and smoother but now it feels like every card is just a copy of another card sometimes to the point of being basically a carbon copy or a big "fuck you" card that just wins the game not matter what happened before it hit the stack

Why do we even buy cards anymore?

Today is my day off me and my bestie have had a falling out things are good but i imagine she needs some space and i most certainly need a little space so i decided to go to my FLGS plenty of players for a Tuesday morning but i couldn't even stay for more then 2 hours

the MTG cards aren't even MTG anymore, Spiderman, Dr.Who, Stranger things, where is the actual IP am i the only one playing with actual magic cards? then everyone talking about new secret lairs and UB like playdough and the office fuck this game at this point

We're back baybee!!

After talking to my bestfriend and coming to a good conclusion we're back to my thoughts on MTG LIKE THAT AWFUL MAP OF THIS NEXT YEAR AND THE FERBEES!!!

Honestly i'm probably done with MTG after all this and honestly probably all card games in general they're all kinda craptastic BRB gotta get my MTG tattoos covered up

What the hell happened to blocks?

For some younger players who may not remember blocks use to be collections of sets that would share mechanics and flavor recently wizards changed so they can flip flop between worlds mechanics and story lines this cost us so much like the battle of they phyrexians story wise felt like it was a blink and you'll miss it moment but the hour of devastation felt impactful because we waited almost a year to finally get to that point and then we have lost the idea of block formats and bland limited formats

Block formats were so DOPE they really let the new mechanics shine and see what this specific year in MTG game design had for the players at the time

it also made rotation so easy one block goes in one block goes out simple and easy now days it's basically a whole office meeting to see what you can and can't play and it stops the stagnation in card design that MTG has had recently with all the same cards reprinted basically over and over again

Sorry for not posting

I intended for this to be a daily blog where i would update you with my hot takes every day, yesterday was my bestfrineds birthday and we took the weekend to celebrate after large falling out i'm going to need to put myself away for a little bit to heal from everything

IS MTGA even Magic?

Their is a lot of debate what MTGA should and shouldn't do. No days with all the random card adding from some specific set of cards out of a set few is non-sense that belongs in hearthstone keep MTGA a MTGO replacement not this rando non-sense

No old mtg players and no new mtg players is stupid. You’re asking a very specific subset of mtg players to view your blog and are turning most others off of it. You can have your own preferences for sure but you also don’t have to be a dick about them.

Also, to clarify my earlier ask, fuck republicans.

I didnt say no mtg players can interact i said no old mtg player and no new mtg players players who have ripened and played for an amount of time I will determine are the good ones also yeah no yugioh players this isnt a yugioh blog plus I think theyre the worst tcg faction at the game store warhammer player are better than them and as far as Republicans go like dude have you seen whats going on in america Republicans are the soul cause for it so until they can get their shit together they should not interact this blog and these post are 100% serious and my true unfiltered feelings towards my favorite game

Loot the MTG goblin-rat

I hate LOOT! He is by far the dumbest part of any MTG set idk even know when he was made but OMG Loot has to be the worst thing he adds nothing to mtg. they tried to recreate Philip from RTR and they failed now they're trying to make that little green goblin stand-in for the online game a new mascot. UHHH!!!!! Just make something earnest magic use to have fun meme cards and decide what the best characters were as a community. I know this is something almost no one in the community actually cares about but good god man let the MTG community be the community. So many questions like why is loot a noble does what kind of patriarchal views does loot have? Will we be in the middle of a set and Loot will just get aggressively racist to some dumb looking dog people? When will this aristocratic fat fuck get what's coming to him while he's out there in the multiverse with no cares in the world their are possibly children dying because of the fatalist system his family has erected that has fueled his fat cat lifestyle! It's time to dig deeper into his lore and show us how the proletariat class of his realm cast off the shackles of the bourgeoisie! Dismantle this weird mouthed freaks kingdom board from board!

Mark Rosewater AKA @markrosewater here on tumblr (has a cool blog where you can ask him questions) described the many magic players into 4 categories

Timmy/Tammy: Players who like big stompy win spells

Johnny combo: Players who like to combo off

Spikes: players who will always look for the best deck no matter what

Borberigmos: Players who focus almost only on flavor

I'm not going to sit here and say these aren't solid categories but these layers go deeper! Some players are nice some aren't so great. With all the bad news and all the bad feelings let's highlight one of the many great player archetypes!

Uncle Istvan - I know i named this after a black card that would be considered on the creepier side of art for MTG, but follow me on this. This is the meme filled older player in ever local game store that's always their to help the new players (unlike myself, i admittedly don't have the patience for you guys sometimes) their decks tend to have older cards from their era of MTG. Generally they have 1 to 5 commander decks and they still call it EDH (like a true OG) If you have an uncle Istvan in your store buy him some snacks or something sometime. He's been here forever and seen players come in and out of the game and probably knows the owner of your FLGS. Don't forget Uncle Istvan isn't legendary so your store may have multiple but someone should go back and fix that

The First tournament Pt.2

Once i had finished my first match and walked up to my brother he asked me in that snarky tone he always had on at the time " Did you already lose your match" With glee i replied no but it looks like your about to lose yours. going over to his opponent and looking at his hand i just shouted "Bane-slayer Angel no way your so dead dude" it demoralized my brother so much he just gave up his first match there. their was no bane-slayer angel. once my brother's match had been reported round 2 was decided and players were paired off. sitting with my next opponent they seemed like what people imagine when they picture a magic the gathering player in the early 2010's to late 2000's kind cocky and see's a kid. He politely informed me he's gonna win this and get to the top 8 and my first win was a flook! What an asshole no seriously what the hell dude as an adult who plays from time to time now days super dick move my guy not to the kids. anyways our first match gets underway he starts talking trash but who cares as we all know i'm going to be the best trading card game player to ever live finally the games between us are at 1-1 next win is guaranteed a spot in the top 8 i still had no clue what that meant at this point that's when it happened he played one of my cards agents me the platinum angel their it was in all it's terror "you can't lose the game and your opponent can't win" a win condition all on it's own i'm out of creature removal. But that's when i realize, I have artifact removal and i swing in for an attack and i'm a smart kid i know i can't win with the angel still on board but i also know he won't block he knows this is my first tournament and assumes i can't remove his angel dumbass bitch is the only thing i though because now he's at (-5) life still alive due to the angel but then i'll ask "artifact removal can get rid of platinum angel correct?" the judge immediately cuts in and says "yes it is an artifact so that would work" i knew this already i just wanted this loss for him to sting and as i saw the color drain from his face i slapped down a card that said "destroy target artifact" said good game and the store went wild to this day still one of the most devious plays i have ever made still unaware that i had made it to the final half of this tournament feeling like a champion walking into the 3rd and final round of the first half i was vs the kid i had met last night and helped build his deck this morning we agreed to play it out but whatever happened we would call a draw seeing as we both already won 2 games this 3rd one means nothing to us. i assumed the day was over that's when the shop owner grabbed me let me know their is one more half for the better players in the store he handed me more packs and said i can add whatever i like to my deck, little did i know i'd be facing off vs his son who had been opening the packs for this prerelease non-stop until he basically had built a perfect deck was the rumor going around so i took my 3 packs added what i could removed what didn't work most of the day felt confident until the round started i was quickly whipped to the back end of the store where you could feel the humid Puerto Rican air sit stagnate with the smell of teenagers and young adults and hot pockets filling the air and surrounded by all the players wanting to see the best player duke it out i reminded myself i can't let this small environment beat me the pro tour is going to be so much harder than this and if i can't at least put up a good fight here how will i ever end up the best in the world shuffling up and starting the game everything seemed normal until the 2nd primeval titan dropped one i could get rid of but 2 impossible with what i had finally getting to 1-1 covered in sweat ready to pass out from the fumes my mother at the door waiting for me to finish so we can leave i put up the best fight i could but then the 2nd primeval titan dropped again and again i didn't have the victory but even though i hadn't won the whole thing i still topped and walking away with 9 packs i can't be too mad now
