I FOUND THE TWEET THAT GOT ME TO WATCH PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
bridgerton is so scary. one by one the siblings are fetched away off into "their happy ending" only to turn into non-characters bearing innumerable children in the background of someone elses story. its like a zombie movie
hulk hogan was a racist piece of shit
Over a year ago, I posted about my near brush with death, and the joy and frustrations of recovery. This was what I said: I felt so sure that I was going to turn over a new leaf and start fixing the problems that had been burdening me even before I became ill. That I would start spending more time with friends and creating more beautiful things and writing thoughtfully and using my time well. Since then, a lot of things have changed. For me, most of them have been for the better. (For the worl

9/11 and Batman
Originally a Twitter thread from 2018. With edits and updates. Batman, Wanda & Pietro Maximoff, 9/11 and mass casualty events, or how we and our government participate in mutual gaslighting, and some thoughts on breaking the cycle for the benefit of our politics. Continue reading 9/11 and Batman
China Mieville's abuse was outed by one of his victims, a very credible British UK human rights journalist: search Emotional Violence and Social Power. She subsequently followed up with several equally harrowing pieces: search "Huffington Post Bidisha From Despair To Hair"; and another, found by searching "Huffington Post Bidisha Triggered On Trauma Survival and Perpetrator Immunity". They are rawly honest, analytical, political and moving, but distressing when it comes to impunity.
Thanks, anon, this is important to know. ButâŠcan I ask what prompted it? I donât remember posting about this issue in the past couple of days. But yes, good to know.
And now, because of the threats and continuing emotional violence, when one searches Emotional Violence and Social Power, one will first find a page at Unherd with a link to the essay, and that link goes to a Page Not Found on Bidishaâs site. Take _that_ URL to archive.org and the Wayback Machine. The 2020 archives are still good, and explain, sort of, why the URL can only be seen via archive.
The emotional abuse and coercive control hasnât stopped.
FINALLY.
HAPPY "HENRY KISSINGER IS DEAD" DAY!
If you think the US handles homelessness badly...
China's solution is a heady combination of shaming people into suicide and and putting those who stick it out in reeducation camps. I don't actually think that should get the US off the hook in talking about the myriad ways we fail and then antagonize unhoused people, but if you want this to be a head-to-head between the US and China, I will reluctantly back the US
The reason I've side-eyed the backlash against Cleopatra, even though I think the history craft is sus in a vacuum, is the internet's worst people think imagining Cleopatra as black is one of the worst things they can contemplate and, hmmm...
One of the weirder affectations on this site...
are people who are like, "I'm such a soft soul uWu I can't even enjoy playing video games where I roleplay doing harm" and "I think everyone just wants to live in peace" and then they'll like, post about how you should guillotine landlords. Like, no, the thing that separates you from the average grimdark-loving gamergater is that you have a different violent fantasy and a different out group. And it's one thing to argue those differences are sufficiently just (though you probably detect my skepticism!) but it's comical to insist that it's something other than pining for violence
Mad how many people on this site swear up & down that they're a burnt out former gifted kid child prodigy and yet don't even have like primary school level reading comprehension
ALL OF THISÂ

I was way too tolerant of irony-poisoned, reactionary, faux-leftists for far too long on the hope our stated shared goals would be enough
The person I'm subtweeting---what do we call that on here?---started doing apologia for the invasion of Ukraine. You've heard it all before: NATO blah blah blah Iraq blah blah blah Russian nationals in Ukraine blah blah blah. The problem is that at a certain point you've taken your skepticism towards US conflicts abroad and cornered yourself into arguing that Russia, a right wing dictatorship, had some kind of basis to start an ethnic cleansing in the Ukraine. Whatever high minded principles we might find common ground on, that's genocide denial! You can't lick boots from the left because crawling under them is down.
I can't say I'm surprised. He---and it's almost always a he---is not the first leftist friend who has become completely unable to make plausible moral judgements about international order to score points against the US. It's an objectifying view of Ukrainian life and humanity of the Russian soldiers Putin is putting through the meat grinder in Eastern Ukraine, that they exist only as part of an ideological chess match between "The West" and everyone else. When centrists begin doing this about race, leftists are quick to point out that the difference between an out Nazi and someone who has the trappings of a centrist but the praxis of a Nazi is mostly one of respect and they are correct; what should they ask me to make of an aesthetic leftist whose praxis is opposing flawed democracies at the behest of right wing dictatorships?
And I'm intellectualizing this a bit. I'm also sad. I'm sad because it's the same impulse that lead a bunch of people to look at abortion rights and LGBT rights and went, "You know, maybe it will be good for the left if Trump wins." I'd rather be a compromised shitlib than sacrifice immigrants and Ukrainian civilians and trans men and rape survivors on the alter of ideology. It hurts when supposed ideological kin work themselves into a praxis that hurts people you care about it
If DeSantis wins the presidency, he's going to try and outlaw pudding the way Pooh has been expunged from the Chinese internet
I arrive at the labor camp, built on the remains of Disney World. I am asked in hushed tones by the other inmates what they are sending people for these days. I tell them that the Free Speech Protectors found my old dessert posts and I've been given 3 years hard labor
