Demon in the Wood, a graphic novel retelling the Darkling’s prequel story, will be released on September 27, 2022. Here, a young Darkling learns to survive in an unforgiving and cruel world.

     “He understood then. The Grisha lived as shadows did, passing over the surface of the world, touching nothing, forced to change their shapes and hide in corners, driven by fear as shadows were driven by the sun. No safe place. No haven. There will be, he promised in the darkness, new words written upon his heart. I will make one.”

So, what do you guys think about the Darkling’s future in the Shadow and Bone show & grishaverse?

They might just turn him into a one-dimensional villain from season 2 to the end. I’m not really sure, and I don’t know if the creators want to/are capable of writing him with depth as a morally grey character. In the books, he was killed, resurrected, and currently is in a limbo between life and death. So, there is a good chance that he won’t really die in the show either, especially since he is such a popular character. But, I wonder if he will get a better ending than the one he got. What do you guys think his future in the show will be? And, what’s next for him after sacrificing himself in the books? Are they going to rescue him from the void just to kill him again? That doesn’t really make sense. He is likely to come back, but it would be repetitive to keep having him as a villain. Overall, I think a good ending is possible.
