On this day, 4 years ago, we lost the Great Mustache, my dad. He touched the lives of many not only on an everyday basis but through his dedication and service to others as a scoutmaster. On this day especially, if you would honor his life by giving to others, I know he would be proud. We carry on his service to others in his name by working with the Icla da Silva Foundation, an organization that helps find bone marrow donors for those in need. My dad needed a bone marrow donor but it wasn't meant to be. I ask that you donate in his name or in the name of a loved one. On this day especially. Join us on Saturday May 21, 2016 at Firefighters Field, Roosevelt Island for The Icla da Silva Foundation's 6th Annual Matchmaker 5K Run/Walk! Bob's Mustaches are once again running/walking to support Bob Lohnes - Dad, Husband, Uncle, Grandfather, Scoutmaster, local celebrity and much, much more. The Mustache. Famous. Infamous. Even a street was named after him! Bob was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in August 2013. We joined the Matchmaker5k with the hopes of walking together, with Bob, to show him how much we would fight for him, to find a donor for him and rally for him. Sadly, this wasn't meant to be. Two days after we formed our Mustaches, the Greatest Mustache of all passed away on March 15, 2014. We will always honor the Mustache. This annual event is a fun-filled family-friendly day for all ages and abilities. Come enjoy views of Manhattan and the East River while supporting patients with leukemia and lymphoma and other diseases treatable with a marrow transplant. With your support in fundraising as an individual or team potential marrow donors are added to the Be The Match Registry, patients receive the care and support services necessary, and breakthrough research continues.
