The Dead Waits are a two piece rock band hailing from Co. Donegal, consisting of brothers Jason and Stephen McCloskey. This guitar and drums duo started at the end of 2009, after a long period playing with various musicians and bands. For the McCloskey brothers these ensembles helped harden and hone their own music, even after those groups imploded leaving the pair feeling like leftovers(which is where the band name came from). Many influences come to mind as to what drives these two noisy siblings but they still come up with a unique sound all their own. With the release of their debut album "Get Gone", The Dead Waits conjure not only rock stylings but also blues, folk and psychedelia with an even sprinkle of weird for good measure.

Fifty years ago, Bob Dylan donned a black leather jacket, plugged in an electric Stratocaster guitar and shocked the world during a July 25, 1965 performance at the Newport Folk Festival. The audience booed his set; perhaps a purist backlash to the electric guitar, or perhaps a protest against the poor sound quality. Decades later, people continue to make sense of the reverberations.

Later, after an eight-year tour hiatus, Dylan was back on the road in early 1974 and “waving around his electric guitar.” All Things Considered sent a KBIA reporter into the crowd at a St. Louis show to gauge fans’ reactions to Dylan’s new style. The reporter concluded that even though Dylan had embraced “rock ‘n’ roll rhythm,” he could still “please almost all of the people, almost all of the time.”

To this day, Dylan continues to be one of music’s great innovators.

Song: To All Those Who Would Love Band: The Dead Waits Really love the retro feel and piano and organ work on this one. Genre perfection down to the doo wop backing vocals. Very reminiscent of the American band The Forty-Fives. The Dead Waits take their style to a different place with this one and show that they have deep inspirational roots. Glad that they are not afraid to reinvent and grow their sound. I can see the ladies with the beehive hairdos dancing now. Hope you enjoy as much as I do. Ryan
