Hang on a minute

Pecker is Onin's translator/familiar. He knows exactly who Jak is and what was done to him via kidnapping and time travel. He knows exactly who Jak's family is, both found and biological.

Which means that moldy little feather duster was deliberately mocking Damas for caring about Jak the first time you encounter a sandstorm in-game.

Y'know what, I don't think Pecker went along because Daxter said they should stick together. I think he was there to protect Onin's/the ottsel trio's investment. It would explain why neither Jak nor Damas started putting pieces together until it was too late.

Noticeably, conversations about Damas’s past don't happen until after Pecker has fled back to Haven. Which is conveniently right after an incident that should have gotten Jak expelled from Spargus (with nowhere to go but back to Haven) if Damas hadn't ham-fistedly invented a community service sentence on the fly.

TL;DR: I have a strong suspicion that Pecker was only in Spargus to try to prevent Jak and Damas from bonding, and Damas shouldn't have interfered when Daxter almost made a feather duster out of that weaselly little moncaw.
