When we were at UK Games Expo earlier this month, we picked up a copy of Wibbell++ by the delightful @stuffbybez . A deck of cards with letters, bordered patterns and numbers, the base game is a word challenge where you shout out words that use a letter from each card flipped over, but it gets harder the further ahead you are. Flip the Script is a party game where you draw actors/actresses, setting and genre and then pitch films scripts to the group. So in the above I made a pitch about Arnold being an undercover Pinkerton agent working for his boss P played by Judi Dench, but his pal Felix played by Cage goes deranged and tells Arnold nothing is real, he doesn't believe it at first but then he begins to have a total recall, the shocking truth, he's not the first 007 Pinkerton agent. So, who are Magpas Air Ambulance?

Magpas Air Ambulance is a charity which brings essential lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies in the East of England and beyond. They started in 1971 and were registered as a charity in 1972, known then as simply MAGPAS, which stands for Mid Anglia General Practitioner Accident Service. They started as a service dispatching GPs to accidents throughout the region. In 1997 they started using the Police Helicopter stationed at RAF Wyton. They secured their own helicopter in 2013 and became MAGPAS Air Ambulance with some of the UK’s expert doctors and paramedics volunteer their own time to work with them.

They lead the way in trauma care training and have a strong clinical heritage of over 45 years, today, offering pioneering training to doctors and paramedics wishing to specialise in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM), for which MAGPAS Air Ambulance are renowned in the medical world.

The Magpas Air Ambulance medical team receives enhanced training which allows them to offer procedures and treatments at the scene, like general anaesthetic, which are usually only available in hospital. Their enhanced doctors and paramedics support the ambulance service by bringing additional skills and treatments to the scene of an incident. The frontline care the Magpas Air Ambulance team delivers doesn’t just save lives, it helps seriously ill and injured people return to a good quality of life.

During my visit there, I learned that most of the MAGPAS Air Ambulance pilots are former military pilots, with the HEMS crew members often being former Police pilots themselves. The doctors and paramedics, whilst coming from many medical fields, all receive specialist training to the same high standard so that there is no hierarchy and that any medical responder is as capable and well trained as any other, and are all well trained in using the specialist medical equipment that they carry, meaning they can support the ambulance service by bringing additional skills and treatments to the scene of an incident such as general anaesthetic, which are usually only available in hospital.

Being only the 2nd air ambulance service in England to operate 24hrs a day, they can be called out at any hour of the day or night to incidents such as road traffic collisions, falls from height and cardiac arrests. Each vehicle carries 2 full kits so that if they are called to an emergency before being able to return from another, they can go straight there, knowing that they will have a full kit to work from.

Apart from the specialist helicopter, thanks to Elms BMW, the team have a BMW 3 series and a BMW X1 (which they are hoping will be replaced with two X3s in the near future) for closer proximity or late night emergencies.

For International Tabletop Day on the 29th April we're gonna do a fundraiser for @magpasairambulance who provide air lifts to those in life threatening situations across the East of England. To celebrate their heroic work our event will be themed around hero games, whether it's the everyday work of doctors in Pandemic or the adventurous quests of cute rodents to reclaim the kingdom in Mice & Mystics. We will be opened for extended hours from 11am till 11pm, have loads of activities planned and will also have a prize raffle.
