Magic Lantern Festival 2017

I went to an event in Chiswick Park, London, and I would honestly say I loved every part of this exhibition! All the colours and actual stories to some of the displays were just amazing. 

They had a lot of different artists collab in this years festival, and you could tell with the different sort of techniques used. There was a lot of traditional Chinese art, especially with the flowers, waves and clouds but also a lot more contemporary work done and it all fit in so well. 

Can’t wait for next year!

Warrior Women

These designs are from a t-shirt campaign I designed for college. 

We were given a brief to pick an ethical topic/issue going on at the time and with that topic/issue we had to create a t-shirt campaign. 

I had chosen to speak out about rape/sexual assault in India, as around that time there was only some news coverage of these events. I, personally, felt that this issue had a lot more to it...I did further research into the issue and found out a lot more about the indian culture around women. Being an Indian woman myself, I was disgusted by how women were being treated because of their gender! I decided I wanted this to be my campaign, I decided on the name ‘Warrior Women’ as I feel that women in general have fought to be heard and seen and that’s what I wanted from this campaign. For women to be heard and seen. 

With my designs, I choose a feature of the face that is popular amongst Bollywood films, eyes. As they say, the eyes are the window to the soul, and I wanted to take that and make a statement with them. The red bindi and mendhi represents a married woman, the red is being used to catch people’s attention but to also make a statement about how it doesn’t matter if you're in a marriage, this issue still occurs.
