A sweet, caring, kindhearted young man, Elijah McClain became a vegetarian because he loved animals so much; he would literally not kill a fly. A self-described introvert, he loved music so much he would play his violin for shelter kittens on his lunch break, โso they wonโt be so lonely.โ He wanted so much to help make the world better and heal people in pain that he became a massage therapist. This gentle, peace-seeking soul celebrated the humanity in everyone he met, including his murderers.
Elijah McClain was slaughtered, cruelly, callously, pointlessly by three badge-wearing criminals and a reckless paramedic. Choked and brutalised mere feet from his home, McClain committed the terrible crime of singing and dancing to himself, carrying an iced tea for his brother, while wearing a warming half-mask because his face was cold. He was 23 years old.
I had a lot to say about this awful, heartbreaking tragedy, including the fact that many of us are just hearing about it now, 10 months after this shocking crime was committed; nearly a year after all those responsible for his death walked away uncharged and free to destroy another innocent life.
