A Go To App for Student Behaviors
App Name: You Can Handle Them All
Perfect for: Teachers in a need for quick help managing students
Available for: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
This app is filled with great information on different kinds of student behaviors. It gives detailed information into understanding the cause of the behaviors along with do's and don't's on how to handle each kind of student.
The Noise Detector
App Name: Class Monster Pro
Perfect for: Engaging classroom management
Available for: iPad
How it works: This app is an interactive noise detector. It is a great visual for students to monitor the noise level in the class. The app comes with several different monster faces, customizable cries and several other customizable settings. As the noise level goes up so does the meter shown. If the class gets too loud the monster begins to cry. Once students have achieved several minutes of quiet learning time, they are awards a heart. (Perfect for creating a positive incentive.) The app comes with several different monster faces, customizable cries and several other customizable settings. Can't wait to use this in my classroom this year.
Grading Made Easy
Let’s face it. No matter how organized we try to be at the start of a new school year, somehow our assignments start to pile up. For me, grading papers can be exhausting and time consuming. Recently, I came across a new iphone/ipad app that will ease my workload for the new school year.
App Name: ZipGrade
Perfect for: Teachers with little time to grade and/or need quick feedback for students
Available for: iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
How it works: 1. First, decide on a multiple choice test you would like to assign. 2. Second, plug in the answers to the test in the app. 3. Next, print blank answer bubble sheets for students. (Note: Bubble sheets are always the same despite the test answers.) 4. Later, distribute answer sheets and allow students to bubble in their answers in the given sheet. 5. Last, collect papers, hover device over test paper to scan paper and instantly get scores.
Pros: Free to use for 100 scans (test it out and see if you like it) Works with any multiple choice test. Student results are always automatically saved. Excellent for standardized test practice. Question analysis
Cons: Only grades multiple choice tests. Must pay monthly or yearly to continue to use the service after 100 scans. (However, I think it's worth it!)

Teacher makes her third grade students hate each other for the best reason
In today’s society we struggle with discrimination, hate and differentiation among our fellow human beings. We classify the ‘other’ as being inferior to us and thus they get less services, demeaning attitudes and are looked down upon. We can see this is many cities, countries, events and social attitudes.
In Ms. Jane Elliot’s 1970’s Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes experiment video we notice how children feel when their given a good or bad eye colour and how they feel. If we relate this to today’s society this is how many marginalized groups feel. It is a bit disturbing to know that even today we still face the same issue of marginalization and discrimination that were faced many, many years ago. If these children in 1970 were able to understand why discrimination is wrong, why can’t we realize that today? If we are to move forward as a cooperative society and world we need to release the demeaning views and perspectives of the other and accept each for who they are.
For more of the experiment check out Jane Elliott - http://www.janeelliott.com/
Great lesson on discrimination.
Mr. Potato Head makes a great behavior management tool. Add a piece to the body each day all students have a great day. Or add a piece time all students do well on a test. Once Mr. Potato Head has all his piece the class receives a reward. Know of any other uses? Feel free to share.
My new eraser dispenser. Inspired by several pinterest ideas.
Keeps erasers organized and all in one place. Goes well with a carnival or food themed classroom. In my classroom, students pay tickets that they are rewarded throughout the day to buy the erasers. Works well for a classroom store too.
