Taiwan Becomes First Country In Asia to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

In a vote on Friday, May 17, Taiwan parliament legalized same-sex marriage, becoming the first country in Asia to do so.

This is only a week before the Parliament was to hit the deadline of May 24 set in 2017 after the constitutional court ruled that same-sex couple had the right to legally marry.

Following years of campaigning by LGBT+ groups for equal marriage rights, hundreds swarmed the parliament building on Friday as the debate was held. Three bills were debated but last-minute attempts by conservatives to pass a watered-down “civil union” laws with not adoption rights were rejected.

In the end, the most progressive one was chosen which allowed couples to form “exclusive permanent unions” and apply for “marriage registrations.” However, this bill was not perfect, as it provides only limited adoption rights and draws some distinctions between heterosexual marriage, such as the inability to marry a foreigner if same-sex marriage is not legal in their country. Yet this is still be hailed by LGBTQ+ advocate as a momentous victory.

This landmark ruling will be implemented on May 24th and is bound to spread hope in Asia’s growing LGBT+ movements.

All four members of 2NE1 reunited to celebrate their 10th anniversary, and they shared the moment with their fans Blackjacks!

On May 17, the members all went live on their Instagram accounts to bring fans into the party. Seeing the group together again and even saying their iconic greeting “What’s up? We 2NE1!” had many viewers in tears.

2NE1 celebrated with a cake, singing their congratulations both to themselves and their fans before making wishes and blowing out the candles. They talked about how much fun they were having together while all meeting up for the first time in a long while, and they reminisced together.

CL commented, “Time’s passed like this, and it’s already been 10 years. It’s been over 10 years since we first met, right?” They agreed that they’ve known each other for 13 or 14 years, and they talked about how great it was to get together again and chat. The members also thanked fans for all their congratulations.

To elaborate why this is worse: Art and religion are all well and good. But information can be critical. When libraries burn, information can be lost forever. Because we photograph art. We have blueprints of the Cathedral. The Notre Dame cathedral did not burn to the ground, only the wooden structures did. The entire library and everything within is gone here. Another reason this is worse? It was DELIBERATE. It was bombed. Accidents like Notre Dame happen all the time. But bombings don’t have to happen. So yeah, if you cared about Notre Dame, logically you should care about this too,
