"Even if the morrow is barren of promises...nothing shall forestall my return." Genesis Rhapsodos,...
I’m back and I’m on my old Genesis Rhapsodos account again! I may return soon to Kain but I’m gonna take it easy and handle one character at a time
lyccris:
“You take good care of it.” She allowed herself a smile, embarrassment fading and slowly being replaced with amusement. “With due respect, I hope I do not overstep any bounds by saying that it suits you. Thank you, Ser Highwind, for humoring me.”
{☼} --
“You overstep no bounds, and the compliment is appreciated.” An expression of amusement colored his features as well as he smiled softly and shook his head with a soft laugh. It wasn’t every day an empress appreciated his hair of all things.
reiivusu:
WHILE KAIN ENTERED THE ROOM, Ravus chose to remain in the doorway. He wouldn’t presume to intrude - after all, the room was now Kain’s until he chose to move on from Old Lestallum. “Some of the cities and towns are more comfortable than others.” Old Lestallum was no bustling metropolis, but it was far from uncomfortable. It simply wasn’t to his preferences. How could it be, when he preferred forests and valleys, rather than dusty towns in the middle of nowhere?
“In any case, I will take my leave.” Ravus eased himself off from the doorframe, gesturing to the room. “The accommodations should be comfortable enough until such time as you can find your way to one of the other settlements. Perhaps… do not mention that you had any business with me, though. Unless you wish to antagonise people.”
{☼} --
He still did not truly understand why Ravus insisted that Kain distance himself. He could only assume that he was less than popular among the people here, though it did beg the question of why he’d be around if that were the case. In any case he could not begin to try and tell the other what to do, even if he did intend to ignore the man entirely in this regard.
“I fully expect to hear from you again soon, my friend. You are thus far the only ally I have on this world.” He could find his own way, but it always helped to have a friend who could make such things easier. And, popular or not, Ravus seemed like a good friend to have. One who was very knowledgeable and carried some kind of weight - unless the title “High Commander” meant nothing here.
commodorexaranea:
Aranea’s head pounded in pain as she feat the substance of the potion Kain used to wake her from the drug they used to subdue her. Her eyes fluttered open for a moment as her limbs felt weak still. She wasn’t sure what drug her former brothers in arms used but whatever it was; it was dangerous. Upon seeing Kain beside her, dazed eyes narrowed in furry as she used what little strength she had to push him away from her. “G-get away from me..asshole..” she grumbled, weakly pushing herself up from the frozen ground, limbs wobbling as she started to stand. “I…asked you to come with me..to back me up…but you abandon me..the second we land..! Remind me to not..ask for your help again..in the future..” she growled, stammering due to remaining affects of the drug still in her system.

The knight hardly had time to deal with her petty griping. “If you’d desired a partner who would accompany you into the lion’s den then perhaps you should have stated as such. As it is, be glad you didn’t or we’d both be unconscious and in their hands.” Which was precisely the reason he’d gone off on his own. Despite the fact that it would have been worse for her to show up with a strange man in full armor by her side. They’d have never let him in anyway and he’d have been in a far worse position to help her.
“Now...if you’re done being upset with me do you care to help finish these fools or am I going to have to attempt to do so on my own?” Even as he spoke, he prepared to meet the men who had begun to circle around them. They raised their strange weapons and approached slowly, likely thinking they could take them alive with numbers alone. Foolish, to say the least. It brought a smirk to Kain’s lips just thinking about it. It had been a long time since he was last underestimated to this degree.

“ Those were some unique moves. ” The young master was not hesitant in her words, despite how intimidating his aura seemed to be. He truly was a capable fighter, from what she was able to witness. Aqua had accidentally stumbled upon the fight between him and a monster, but the event was quick to end before she could truly help. “ If you are hurt anywhere, I have spare supplies. I apologize if I’m interrupting, though. You are the first soul I have come across during my journey. ”
{☼} --
The Knight finished the poor beast off with a single thrust of his spear through its heart. Pulling it out with a jerk, he thrust the blade to the side to clean it of blood before turning to face the woman who spoke behind him. She was...unique. Blue hair and a strange method of dress that he’d never before seen. “You do not interrupt, young lady. I am simply finishing up a patrol. Beasts that have been tormenting a nearby settlement.” He appreciated her offer of supplies, but he had no need of them - the beasts he faced were weak.
Flickering of Amethyst Flame
yunhuntress:
Fang heard the hollering but kept to herself through the entire ordeal. It reminded her of times long passed of people doing the same at her for her actions. Time where she didn’t mind attaining the scars in her skin to keep others alive. She snapped out of the thoughts as he approached and she nodded.
“Understandable given her profession and knowing you I imagine.” Fang had taken to drinking a bit more fresh water from her canteen before he mentioned continuing their travel. She nodded in agreement and moved with her lance in hand to walk a while.
“Yes, we can and you can ask whatever you’d like to know and I will try to answer as best I can.”
{☼} --
With his armor fully in place once more, the knight turned to face his companion and motioned with his head for her to follow. Leaving through the other side of the village, the road that they found themselves on resembled the one they’d entered through in almost every way. Though Kain set down the path with a stride of a man who knew every inch of the forest that they were in like the back of his hand.
“First of all, I would like to know where you are from. We’ve already discussed how you are not of this world, the question that remains is which world are you from?” He doubted she was from a world he knew, but it never hurt to ask. It was perhaps a world he would visit himself some day and it would help to know something of it beforehand if this was the case.
As they talked, the scenery began to melt into more of the same, the village disappearing behind the dense forest as he led them towards the city-kingdom he called home. He only hoped that the bandits that had attacked him were not part of a larger force. He was worried that he had not seen the last of them, but the villagers had received no word from the castle so he had hope that everything was fine, save for the attacks on his people.

yunhuntress:
“I understand and you will get the answers to the questions that you ask. First things first, your wounds need a better healer to tend to them than myself. While I know enough to keep people alive, my sister was the natural healer in my time.”
She had no trouble adhering to the village and showing she was no threat. If anything, she kept an eye on Kain and made certain he was able to reach the healer. Fang made herself sit outside of the healing area and kept questions coming in her mind. A whole new place, and yet she felt completely like a stranger again. At least she knew her magic was powerful in this world just like her old homeland.
Time would tell how she would make out however with the Dragoon Commander. She was only thankful he was still alive and was kind enough to talk with her. Fang intended to learn more from him if he wished to show her and teach her of his world.
{☼} --
The knight found himself stripped down to his undergarments as the white mage did her work. Scolding him the entire time for being so reckless as to take on an entire horde of bandits almost entirely by himself. No doubt this was just a precursor to a far more...dangerous scolding he’d get once Rosa found out. Thankfully he still had quite some time before she returned from her travels and learned of his brush with death.
Finally, as she finished her work, Kain moved to stand and tested this body with a few quick stretches. It was almost as if nothing had ever happened and he found himself ready to take on the world once more. “I thank you, Eliza, though I do ask that you adopt a lower tone when berating me. The village doesn’t need to hear their Lord Commander being yelled at like some child.” She opened her mouth to scold him some more for being rude, but by the time she’d managed to find the words to say he’d already grabbed his things and rejoined Fang outside.
“I apologize for what you may have heard in there. She is quite...passionate.” Her temper had been one of the many reasons that she’d decided the White Magic Corps had not been for her. As he began to redress, he addressed her again, “Now that I am at full strength again our travels will go much quicker.” They were still a day’s ride out from the castle and he would need all the strength he could muster should they be attacked again. “We can talk on the road.”
reiivusu:
RAVUS COULDN’T HELP BUT WONDER what other beasts roamed Kain’s world, if dragons were as common a sight as he claimed. Everyone would require the safety of a suit of armour, and proper skills of self-defence. Was it… a dangerous world? Eos certainly was, but not every world had daemons and wild beasts to threaten peoples’ safety.
“Most of the guidelines are common sense.” Ravus gestured to the door once they reached Kain’s assigned room. “So long as you keep the room tidy and make no undue noise, nobody will have reason to complain. Having the booklet of rules is standard in any motel and hotel in Eos, you will find. Some have different guidelines and requirements than others.”
And with any luck, Kain wouldn’t be kept awake by the constant noises of bustle. Old Lestallum wasn’t large, but people tended to come and go quite regularly, given that so many Hunters cashed in bounties and picked up more.
{☼} --
“I see...” Common sense must be a misnomer on this world if it was required of them to write them down in order to have them followed. On his home world such things were implied. Innkeepers and their establishments were well respected and valued members of every settlement - without them there would be little reason to actually stop in a village and bring it the much needed commerce. But he supposed things of that sort were far rarer in a place like this where technology no doubt made travelling a far easier task.
Finally, after another minute of walking, they approached the room with the numbers he’d been told. Taking the key and inserting it into the lock, he opened the door to find a room of decent size despite the low price. Stepping inside, the knight cast his eyes around to examine his surroundings with a curious gaze. “Your people live a rather comfortable life. You must be very powerful as a nation...”
Whispers in the Dark
blackmage-lulu:
魔術 —— Oh, it was indeed a saying, but it was one that never sat well with her. men used it to imply that women were incapable of taking care of themselves, or that they needed a man to protect them; she was not a damsel in distress and she was loathe to rely upon anyone if she could help it. ❝It is a common saying, but do I look as though I require any services you may have on offer?❞ Her tone was clipped, and perhaps a little rude, but she was tired of being tarred with a certain brush. ❝–And isn’t there another saying… the road to hell is paved with good intentions? I’m sure you believe that you harbour us no ill will, but we shall be the judge of that, hm?❞
There was a lot going against him right now. he was fully armoured and had wandered into a village at what some would describe as the dead of night. Could anyone really blame her for being on her guard? Perhaps, but she hadn’t gotten this far, hadn’t survived so much, by being completely trusting of strangers.
Though it seemed that this man, this Kain Highwind, was something of an expert at digging himself a deeper hole. Had this been anywhere else in Spira, the mage may have bought into his story of self discovery, but given that they weren’t on the way to anywhere and that the village and island itself was neither large or held any real importance… well, she was finding it a hard pill to swallow.
❝I have found that people on a journey of discovery are either running from something, or seeking some sort of redemption for past deeds. So tell me, Dragoon… which category do you fall under?❞
{☼} --
She was...perceptive. To say the least. He had offered no details on who he was or where he’d come from, let alone his past. And yet here she was approaching him as if she could see right through him. She even knew he was a Dragoon, though he possessed no visible weapon and the draconic motif of his armor was mostly obscured by the flame. He had underestimated her and it was a mistake he was eager not to repeat.
With a sigh, the knight focused cobalt hues on the woman in front of him and folded his arms with a small frown. He would have to tell the truth, as ridiculous as it might sound to her it was his only hope. She would either believe him and be less likely to attack or she would simply mark him as insane and decide to chase him out of her village. Either way he had no intention of fighting an unarmed woman - no matter her temperament.
“You leave me no choice but to confess it seems. If you must know I am of the latter category. Though the names I could give would hold little meaning for you, trust that I do mean what I say. I am travelling from world to world, far from my home. The powers that allow me to walk between the stars saw fit to deposit me on your island a short distance from here and your village is simply the closest I could find. I assure you my intentions are nothing more than to find a place to stay for the night and rest.”
And now he was forced to wait for her verdict. He would quietly accept whatever she decreed, though he had hope it would be a favorable decision. It would be rather difficult to find a way off of the island without help.

commodorexaranea:
Aranea opened her mouth the speak but he left before she could say anything. A soft grumble left her lips. “God damn it Kain..This is the last time I ask your ass for help..” She had no idea where he went and honestly, she didn’t have time to worry. Aranea wanted him with her as a sense of protection..not so he could wonder off elsewhere.. Letting out a sigh, she walked into the small town, pausing in front of a building that had three snow mobiles parked. Stepping by the door, she knocked three times. A panel opened at the top as a pair of hazel eyes glared at her. “Password?”
“Gil speaks louder than words.” The panel closed as several locks were undone. The door soon opened and Aranea was welcomed inside by an ex-mercenary donning her former colors –black and grey. He led her to the far back where she was stopped and instructed to strip herself of weapons. This was predictable as the day was long. Merely giving a nod, she handed over her lance and a gun she held under her skirt. She then removed her helm before she was ushered into a room with black double doors. There, a single table with a short dark skinned male wearing a black suit smoked a cigarette, nodding his head to her with a grin. “Ah Aranea baby! I’ve been waiting for you! Heard you were here on some business. My boys didn’t give you much trouble, did they?” A hiss left her lips, glaring at him. They both knew that the men that worked there were her’s but after a spat between the two, it was agreed that those who wished to deal with the black market left with him and those who didn’t remained loyal to her. “Stop trying to be so damn cheeky, Marcus. You know why I am here..” He leaned his head back in thought, tipping his chair. “Ohh yes..you want the civilians we rounded that the Empire had – those who were the families of scientists who perished in their own experiments.Look; they could make a great profit for us.No need to look for bounties or anything. Most of them would fetch quite the price..It would be a waste to let them go.” “We? You know I don’t deal with human trafficking. Geez..you haven’t changed at all in these past four years..” she spat. “Just tell me where they are and I’ll be on my way. You promised you would lead me to them.” His grin grew wider. “Oh did I..?” A moment later, three men attempted to subdue Aranea. She pulled her arms out of their grip and turned to kick them only to feel her body go numb as a tranquilizer gun had been used, a dart hanging from her right shoulder. Falling forward, her vision blurred. The last thing she saw was Marcus smirking down at her. ____ About twenty minutes later, one of the guards exit the building with Aranea over his shoulders as another spoke to him about which cell she was to be placed in. The pair seemed all too happy to have their former mercenary leader as a bargaining chip for them to use.
{☼} --
Having taken his position, the Dragoon watched from a distance as Aranea disappeared into the buildings, uneasy from the moment her boots crossed the threshold and wordlessly preparing multiple spells that would aid should things go poorly. Though nothing happened. For ten minutes he sat in silence, watching the village like a hawk, taking note of all the poorly disguised mercenaries he could see from his position.
Two, guised as wife and husband patrolling in a slow circle around the perimeter. Another on a porch pretending to be interested in the day’s articles. One on the device they’d called a “phone” who appeared to be talking to someone. Then several who were in whatever they would call hidden but stood out to his trained eye. He would need to remember them when the fighting began.
Another five minutes past and he began to get antsy, fingers clenching and unclenching. This was taking too long. Dropping back to the snow, the knight steeled himself for whatever was about to happen, his feet starting to carry him towards the village at a slow, reasonable pace. He was going to keep his pretense of traveller for as long as possible. As such, he adopted a hunched over appearance, allowing his hair to fall loose to give him a slightly dishevelled look. Better to be underestimated than dead.
“Please...” he intoned weakly, sounding as pathetic as he could as he approached the two sentries, “I...need...food...” A fall to his knee for dramatic effect. Behind them, however, he was thoroughly aware of a door opening and two mercenaries exiting with a familiar form slumped over one’s shoulder. Shit, so his instincts had been correct. And things were about to pop off.
Even as the sentries approached, false worry plastered on their faces, the Dragoon silently prepared to summon his lance. He waited just as long as he could before, calling the weapon to his hand, spinning from the knee, and plunging it into the woman’s throat. The other hardly even had time to react before the lance was pulled with a wet sound and thrust through his chest. Kain was reminded with sickening clarity of how easy it was to kill humans compared to monsters.
But he didn’t have time to focus on that, tossing the cloak to the side and allowing it to fade back into the ether where he’d called it from to reveal his full armor set. He didn’t stop to give them a single moment to think, tossing his lance towards the pair holding Aranea and using his magics to follow it - closing the distance between them in a few moments as he drove the shaft of his weapon into the one holding Aranea and forcing him to drop her.
With a hand, he summoned a vial and crushed it over her prone form - hopefully waking her from whatever slumber she was in. “I am good, lady Highwind, though I cannot say I’m good enough to take them all on my own...”
