The only purpose of season 8 was to destroy Daenerys Targaryen. All the other characters were stagnant and unnaffected by the plot at large. Even Jonās parentage reveal had no effect on him save for causing him to leave the woman he claimed to love which, again, was more about furthering the destruction of Daenerys than it was about Jon himself. Every single episode this season was created to strip Daenerys of everything she had built and everything she was over the course of the previous seven seasons. It was a misogynist revenge fantasy, designed in an attempt to justify her murder. Up until her actions in episode five (out of character as it was, because truly, Daenerys would never), Daenerys had never done anything to warrant the disrespect and mistrust she received throughout this season. Daenerys, more than any other character, lost everything. She lost everyone who ever cared for or supported her, her allies and advisors betrayed her and the man she loved contributed greatly to both of these facts. In three episodes they took everything from this woman who spent the entire series helping others and then they expect their audience to condemn her for falling into grief and rage and to accept her death all in another two episodes? It doesnāt work that way. The only ones accepting this complete betrayal of their most iconic character are the people who always wanted her to fall for reasons unrelated to actual plot or character arcs. They wanted her to fall because they hated her because she was powerful. Because she was a woman who rose from nothing and who refused to submit to the men around her any longer. Because she could never be controlled by the men who wanted to use her. And because Daenerys had now fullfilled her purpose of saving Westeros from both the Army of the Dead and Cerseiās tyranny, she was no longer of use to the narrative they wanted to create and so they needed her out of the way and they attempted to justify it by robbing her of everything right down to her core characteristic which is that Daenerys is a savior. That is the very core of her character and in a last ditch attempt to destroy her so that people would not hate the show for ending her entire character arc with absolutely no payoff and Jon himself for murdering her they decided to take that away from her too, one episode before the finale. And it all failed spectacularly. They spent the last six episodes of this series not tying up ends and closing character arcs but solely focusing on tearing down arguably the most beloved character of the show. And because of that the ending of Game of Thrones will go down as one of the worst in history, everything d&d built subject to mockery and disdain. That is the only acceptable reaction to this misogynist sham of an ending which has absolutely no place in todays cultural climate.
