Finding out that Blue Grosbeaks (Passerina caerulea) are technically in the cardinal family fundamentally changed how I look at them. They are essentially shiny, cobalt-blue cardinals! 😭💙🌻
I saw this stunning reference photo by Kathy Gonder Photography and I had to paint him. I had fun dappling all those rich, textured layers of deep blues and bright cinnamon wing patches against the warm, golden sunflower background.
A digital portrait study of a magnificent brindle Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppy named Ekko, inspired by a wonderful community photo from a year ago. 🐕🐾✨
As a fellow corgi parent, I fell completely in love with the complex layering of his brindle coat patterns and his beautifully expressive "disapproving" eyes. Hand-painted layer by layer in Procreate to balance soft, textured fur strokes against a bold, flat berry-pink background canvas.
It feels like just yesterday I got fired from the cat cafe and had to take on weird temp jobs in space to pay the rent. 🪐✨
I scanned this graphite sketch out of my traditional sketchbook and brought it into Procreate to layer in those soft, dreamy pastel tones against the dark starry backdrop.

An architectural digital illustration exploring the gorgeous mechanics of Mid-Century Organic Modernism and summertime lemonade in vintage glassware. ☀️🍋🌿
This piece focuses on the balance between crisp geometric lines and natural textures. The sweeping asymmetrical gable roof, clerestory window placement, and graphic post-and-beam timbering contrast beautifully with the floor-to-ceiling fieldstone chimney. To ground the scene in a nostalgic summer mood, a classic striped vintage Anchor Hocking lemonade set rests on the front lawn in retro metal spring chairs. Built with warm ochre tones and rich teals in Procreate.
A traditional master study of mid-century master Alexander Girard's iconic 1971 "Hand & Flowers." 🎨✨
I’ve always harbored a pedantic fascination with drawing intricate lace textures, so Girard’s classic Environmental Enrichment Panel design for Herman Miller was an immediate standout to me. This 16x20 inch acrylic painting on canvas was created back in 2016 for my own home, inspired by seeing his brilliant work in person at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Recreating a mechanical, crisp screenprint format using traditional acrylic paint and a fine-tip brush on textured canvas fabric was a fantastic exercise in linework precision. For my palette, I chose to work with a rich, cool-toned crimson—swapping his vibrant, warm poppy-orange for deep berry reds that contrast beautifully against the bold cobalt leaves and solid graphic hand silhouette.
Included in the photoset are the full canvas view, macro details of the hand-painted lace cuff and brush edges, and Girard's original print for study reference.
Cozy campfire memories 🏕️✨
Inspired by a sweet little vintage Calico Critters camping set. For my digital version, I wanted to build out a scenic background with a pitched tent, a realistic watch for the bear scout, and a warm, glowing campfire.

Diving into the brilliant details of the Tortoise Leaf Beetle 🌿✨
This vibrant insect is a tortoise leaf beetle, Paropsisterna gloriosa, indigenous to Australia and Papua New Guinea. They are known for their bright, metallic aposematic colors—a warning pattern used to advertise danger to predators. This particular species features a striking pattern of wavy orange, blue, and purple metallic bands on its elytra (hardened forewings).

My kid finishes the school year this week! While most everyone else is still counting down the weeks, we are officially ready for summer.
To celebrate, I want to share this Calico Critters kindergarten class portrait. I drew the initial sketch and sepia version back in May 2025 and had fun bringing it into full color last summer. Digital art created in Procreate.
If you look closely at the original reference, you might notice a few changes—I couldn't resist swapping in two little cats into the lineup! 🐾

Digital painting based on a pencil scan from my old sketchbook. A study of @stelladuval, paying homage to that iconic Monty’s Good Burger vegan milkshake cup and a beautifully carved mermaid ring.

This 2015 12x36” acrylic study was about finding my way back to myself. After a long period of feeling too vulnerable to display my own work, I painted these Passeriformes (perching birds) specifically to hang in my own home. It was an exercise in reclamation—filling my walls with light and art on my own terms.
The piece is heavily inspired by Hubert Hilscher’s 1978 Projekt 127 cover. I loved the rhythmic challenge of the patterns and the precision required for those delicate legs.
There is a real baby bunny living under my front bushes right now, so hiding a little rabbit sculpture in the landscaping of this modern split-level felt meant to be. 🐇🌿
I had a lot of fun with the textures here (especially balancing the three different types of brick). I also took some digital creative liberties from the reference photo to restore the home's original architectural harmony, standardizing the three-pane windows and bringing windows back to the garage door. You also can't go wrong with a dark teal front door.
Nature’s take on Art Nouveau jewelry. 🪽✨
When I found the reference photo for this Pastel Leafhopper (Cicadellidae), it immediately reminded me of a vintage Art Nouveau brooch carved from opal and bright enamel. I wanted to play up that inspiration in this digital study, using elegant lines and emphasizing the translucent, jewel-toned wings.
I included a photo of an actual antique Art Nouveau insect brooch below so you can see my vision. At $68k for the real thing, I think I'll stick to drawing my own! 😅💎
Colorado is actually giving us a real, blooming spring this April, so it felt like the perfect time to share this little study. 🌷✨
I had fun pattern-mixing her outfit (polka dots, stripes, and florals all at once). I also got completely lost in the details of this bouquet... I loved it so much you might just see these flowers make a cameo in another piece later on. Wishing you all a cozy, flower-filled weekend! 🐰🌼
I’m a little obsessed with passion flower vines (Passiflora). I paired them here with a Pink cockatoo (Cacatua leadbeateri), also known as a Major Mitchell’s cockatoo. (Mitchell is my husband's name, so this specific bird felt like it was meant to be drawn).
