Had a super fun assignment for the new issue of Garden & Gun Magazine driving out to Montana a few months back photographing respected crime/mystery novelist James Lee Burke. Originally hailing from Texas, he now lives on a gorgeous ranch near Lolo Montana where at 80 years old he still tends to his horses every day. His writing office was full of amazing things he has collected over the years. A civil war era sword, arrow heads, and his fathers 100 year old baseball glove were some of my favorites. The August/September issue hits stands this week.

I want to take my body off like a coat. It’s been awhile since I’ve felt this way about my body or myself and the feeling isn’t missed at all. I mean, I’ve had my insecurities here and there in the past year but never about my body. I thought I stopped hating my body years ago. I love myself a lot nowadays. But right now I want to take my body off like a coat. I keep picturing myself coming home and just being able to hang it in the coat closet just like any other form of outerwear. Occasionally I just get tired of it. I love my wide hips I really do but the problem is sometimes I just get tired of it. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. There are plenty of things and people you can love, yet sometimes you do just want to stow it away or go without. When you get tired of your body it’s the hardest thing. I want to be able to stow it away. It’s just so difficult to constantly love myself. I love myself 99.5% of the time. It’s just, that other .50% is when the weight of the world gets to me. It’s just so cruel. .50% of that time is the worse…which is why I’m up at 3 in the morning writing about it.
