a fashion Mario AU oneshot created by @inksyys-blog
Each outfit Mario showed off was something that always made him comfortable. He had no problem with the more suggestive outfits, always one to showcase his talents in modeling. There was one common denominator when it came to each outfit though, and it was slowly becoming the bane of his modeling career's existence.
Mario hated heels. Hated them with a passion. It didn’t matter if they were six inches, or the simple wedges that barely gave him any added height. Even if he looked amazing in them, heels always made him tired. He would come home everyday with sore feet and want nothing more than to flop down on the couch or rest his feet in a bucket of ice. He absolutely hated doing anything that required being on his feet after a shoot, and today was like no other. He dropped his stuff off on the coat hanger nearby, before flopping down on the couch for the rest of the day. He felt the cushion pull him deeper into relaxation, and let out a deep sigh. There was no way he was getting up anytime soon. He grabbed the remote from the coffee table, turning the tv on to some random show. He relaxed even further into the couch, his feet propped up on the armrest on the other side of the couch.
He didn't even realize he'd fallen asleep until hours later, when he heard a familiar voice and a gentle hand on his arm, shaking him softly. “Hey there, sleepyhead. I brought us some pizza,” Mike Jess said softly, a grin on his face as he looked at him through the dark sunglasses he wore. Mario managed a sleepy smile, stretching out his limbs before making space for him on the couch. Mike Jess sat down, opening the box and letting Mario choose the first slice. “How was your day?” he asked before grabbing his own slice.
“Pretty tiring,” Mario said, swallowing a bite of pizza first. “The girls had me try on different styles that matched with different ‘party era’s’,” he said, using finger quotes for the last part. He took another bite of his pizza before talking again, the exhaustion in his voice audible. “It was…definetly a lot. I mean, I don’t mind it of course, but most of the heels they had me try today were brand new. I swear, at least give me some that are slightly worn,” he said, earning a laugh from Mike Jess. He finished his slice, grabbing another before turning to him. “How was your day?” he asked, tilting his head.
Mike Jess finished another slice, before responding. “Slow, actually. I mean, I know the cafe is new and all, but usually people are all over new stuff. I did get to take a really long break, though, so I wrote down some songs. Maybe I’ll perform them later, if you’re not too tired to listen to them, of course,” Mike Jess teased with a smirk, earning an eyeroll and a chuckle from Mario.
“Of course I’ll listen to them, idiot,” Mario replied, elbowing him slightly. It wasn’t long before they finished the pizza, or at least eating as many slices as they wanted and saving the rest for later. Mike Jess relaxed against the couch, putting an arm around Mario as he snuggled beside him, the two turning their attention to the TV.
“Y’know, when I first walked in, there was an ad for some music festival going on this weekend,” Mike Jess said, looking down at him. “We should check it out. Once your feet are healed, of course.” Mario nodded, smiling softly as he rested against his boyfriend, listening to his heartbeat. It was a steady rhythm, and he was able to picture his runway walk against the beat, matching the steps in his head to what he heard. “Hello? Earth to Mariooo. Don’t tell me you fell asleep again,” Mike Jess teased.
“Oh, sorry, no, I was spaced out for a second. You said something about a music festival? I’m totally down, so long as I don’t have to wear heels that day,” Mario said, looking up at him. Mike Jess let out a laugh, pressing a soft kiss to Mario’s forehead.
“Of course. I would never make you wear heels outside of work. Hell, take my sneakers and I’ll wear the heels,” he said with a grin, earning yet another eye roll from Mario.
“Yeah right. You wouldn’t last as long as I do with those devil things on,” Mario said, a hint of challenge in his eyes as he looked up at him. He snuggled even closer against him, the sound of his heartbeat once again taking over his thoughts. He sighed softly, letting himself drift off to the steady rhythm of his boyfriend's heart, barely catching his boyfriend’s words.
“OF course I couldn’t,” Mike Jess said, adding another kiss to his forehead before pulling him impossibly closer, his voice soft and reassuring. “You’re untouchable on those things, even when they’re not comfortable to you. You’re beautiful in everything you wear, M. There’s no way in hell I could ever be able to pull off half the things you do everyday,” he said. Mario couldn’t help the soft smile that formed on his face as he listened to his boyfriend's words, finally letting himself fall asleep.
“Mario?” Mike Jess whispered, looking down to check if he was asleep or not. Sure enough, his boyfriend happily passed out on his chest, sleeping peacefully. Mike Jess smiled, and grabbed a throw blanket from nearby, covering the two of them. He ruffled his hair gently, running his fingers through the spikes of his hair before whispering softly. “Goodnight, my favorite fashion icon. Get some rest, you need it,” he said. He grabbed the remote from the coffee table, turning the tv off and putting the remote back. He leaned against the couch, finding a position that would allow him to be comfortable as well as make sure he didn’t wake Mario in his search. Once he found it, he let his eyes close, holding his favorite icon tightly as the two slept peacefully on the couch.
