Bly Manor was set in the mid-80's. It would have been so easy to have included a homophobic reaction from one of the other characters or a scene where either Dani or Jamie gets called a slur. But they had none of that. We only get one mention about same-sex marriage not being legal around the 90s but that's it. It's so fucking refreshing not to have a show where the writers are like; "oh we can't have a gay relationship because of the time period" or "the only drama this couple will face is bigotry." This was a tragic gay love story but not for the cliche reason most of them are tragic. They could have written Dani falling in love with a man and almost nothing would have changed, which is my fav kind of LGBT representation in media! I love that! I want more of that!!
