Grockadrian but its rocky feeling something so familiar with Grace but being scared to do anything about it because they dont want to cheat on their partner, so "Friend Grace" becomes prominent as they try to seperate themselves from their feelings for Grace.

Until they land on Erid and Adrian sees Rocky for the first time in over 50 years and can see that Rocky's love for Grace isnt as platonic as Rocky would like to believe it is, and Adrian has to soothe Rocky's insecurities, promising that they arent a bad person for falling in love again, its okay, you didnt cheat.

Now Rocky feels like they have to choose between their mate that they thought they would never see again, and their codependent leaky human, except wait, why is Adrian purring when they look at Grace? Why is Adrian nudging me forward? Why is Adrian so determined to make this biodome not only habitable but comfortable? Why do they keep coming with me everyday to visit Grace? Why are they insisting we move our nest next to the biodo-

big big big fan of platonically, horrendously codependant grace & stratt.

like it starts with sharing passwords and whatnot, but then they have the keys to each others' rooms. grace is glued to her side like they're conjoined twins. she brings him along to meetings to science translate like he's her emotional support dog. he brings her lunch because she always forgets. they both fall asleep working in one office or lab or another all the time.

eventually they straight-up form their own way of communication. grace can say something on the same level of incomprehensible as "carl and i made a baby" and stratt will respond with some obscure hand gesture, and both of them will completely understand. they hold entire conversations like that. one day ilyukhina pops her head in the door to ask grace a question, witnesses this, and wordlessly backs away. she'll ask dubois.

there's a betting pool going on on whether they're hooking up, but one day someone finds out that grace is aroace or something, and it becomes immediately and violently clear that something much more concerning is going on with them.

rocky getting into pseudoscience for shits and giggles would be SO FUCKING FUNNY. imagine: he might take it seriously for five minutes. the whole point of it is that its vague and convoluted enough to hook people who have some blind spots as to how the world works. lots of earth culture sounds made up! its all very confusing!

and then grace very gently corrects him but also crucially makes fun of him the entire time.

rocky: (peeved) how would rocky know this crazy science wrong and dumb? relativity also crazy science but is real!

grace: haha... but seriously though. its not remotely the same. (twenty minute rant about how people conflating the two is actually a VERY serious issue back on earth)

rocky, being inquisitive, keeps researching and soon finds out that bringing up his new pseudoscientific discoveries & pretending to be fully earnest about it all is probably one of THE easiest ways to drive grace up the wall. needless to say he exploits this tactic to no end.

rocky: i do research. grace is jerk all make sense now. astrology birth chart say taurus with ascendant leo very ambitious. strong opinion, independent thinker. also big ego. easily bruised if criticized.

grace: ... i know youre trolling and this is all bullshit and yet somehow it affects me.

rocky: moon in gemini also very insightful!

grace: dude im begging you to stop. what do i have to do to get you to stop.

rocky: math is sound... stars and planets no lie. opposition between moon and saturn responsible for grace emotional constipation! ohh, grace also have difficult relationship with guardian in early life, expect neglect and rejection from others, is all coming together now...

grace: okay thats it im walking out of the airlock

rocky can and does just sit on the bed next to grace too. however this has received complaints such as 'Rocky stop moving around, I'm trying to sleep.'

will forever be so normal about grace telling stratt that the party is weird and stratt immediately going "okay so im going to sing at you now. and i will make direct eye contact with you in the crowd. then i will decide im done halfway through the song and leave without a word." and it actually working to make grace look more happy

"Grace sounds like a young Eridian" this, "Grace is chronologically a pebble" that. ENOUGH. I propose "Grace is a creaky old man to Eridians." His wealth of knowledge beyond theirs gives the impression that he's spent centuries alive to learn it all. His rougher voice (compared to their whalesong) and steady, fluid movements (compared to their habit of either perfect stillness or jittering) are both full on Eridian gandpappy. They're convinced he's basically Bill Nye before he even reveals he wants to teach science.

Give me an Erid that refuses to accept that Grace, a thirty four year old, isn't everybody's sweet old grandpa no matter how much Rocky rages that Grace is technically younger than everyone he's teaching.

I know there’s a lot of angst potential in Grace not getting to choose how he died or what he brought along for the trip, but honestly given how oblivious he was about his importance to the mission as a whole? Or to the fact that he was literally IN astronaut training?

Stratt could have been asking him “how would you like to die?” randomly over breakfast and he’d have just brushed it off as Stratt Being A Weirdo.

Rocky thinking Grace literally said “I have to go and die” on one of their first interactions is so funny to me. Like imagine meeting an alien after almost half a century alone and then they go “ah, bad timing, I’m gonna go lay down and never get up. Nice meeting ya! :)”
