Summary:
When Geralt is tasked with becoming a full time legal guardian for his godchild, Ciri, he feels a little out of his depth. Thankfully, local childminder/nanny, Jaskier, is on hand to help.
As time goes on, they grow closer and feelings start to develop…
Child of Surprise fic? Heck yeah!!
Lambert finds Eskel in the forest, but he isn't alone. Turns out, Geralt isn't the only one with a Child of Surprise
Geralt could feel the blush burning in his cheeks, and a part of him liked this. He liked Jaskier’s attention, he felt safe here.
Jaskier was so open and easy to relax around, to be vulnerable with. And in return, Jaskier rewarded his vulnerability with praise and flattery that soothed away all the sharp edges of his anxiety. He felt good, and he was allowed to feel good without justifying it to anyone. And that was nice.

Geraskier prompt: Jaskier is secretly a spy. Sure Jaskier might not be the strongest man alive, not even close to a witcher. But Geralt had no idea of Jaskier's talent for poison making, spying and assassinating with a small blade. So imagine his surprise when Jaskier asks for Geralt's protection to another ball, but they caught a whiff of Jaskier's true mission so they both got stopped at the entrance and the pile of weapons hid creatively in the bard's clothing is thrice the size of Geralt's
[Omg, I absolutely love this idea! No-one would suspect the cutesie young bard...:]
At this point in his life, Geralt was no stranger to royal galas. Jaskier had been dragging him from one side of the continent to the other, demanding his services as a bodyguard whenever he was asked to play for some lord or prince. In truth, he didn’t really mind; Jaskier paid him well, the work was easy and he usually got his share of food and drink while he was there. The only downside was the task of protecting Jaskier from cuckholded earls and forceful older women.
It wasn’t unusual for Jaskier to disappear once his set was finished, under the guise of putting away his lute and grabbing a refreshment. But even Geralt knew that it didn’t take half an hour to put away an instrument... unless, of course, that instrument had been taken out of Jaskier’s pants. Still, he didn’t intervene. It wasn’t his job to stop Jaskier from making poor decisions; it was his job to protect him from the consequences.
“So, how many lords want to kill you at this one?” Geralt asked, rolling his shoulder against the tight, stiff fabric of his dress shirt. He hated having to dress like this; he didn’t understand how Jaskier could wear this every day. And by choice, no less.
“Hard to say, really. Maybe seven?” Jaskier responded cheerily, “The Baron of Hatropen is particularly angry about me seducing his son, so he’ll probably be the main issue...”
Geralt rolled his eyes, staying close to his occasional travel companion as they approached the stately manor home. He greeted the soldiers on the door with a nod and voluntarily laid his swords on the table; it was almost pointless to bring them along, since he knew they would be confiscated at the door, but he found that security made less of a fuss if he just gave them a weapon - otherwise they were prone to thinking that he was hiding one somewhere.
“Thank you, Witcher. Now you, bard,” the soldier demanded, looking to Jaskier.
Jaskier blinked and looked at him, then gestured broadly to his elegant clothes. “Do I look like I’m carrying a weapon? I’ll grant you, my songs can cut deeply, but only in the metaphorical sense.”
“You’re the Viscount of Lettenhove, correct? One Julian Pankratz?” the soldier continued plainly. Jaskier frowned but answered the address with a nod. “Alright then, sir. You can either deposit your weapons here voluntarily, or myself and my supporting officer will search you.”
Jaskier hesitated for a long moment, but when the soldier moved to stand, he hastily ducked to retrieve a dagger from his boot. “Fine, fine... here. That’s all I have.”
The soldier looked at the dagger, then at Jaskier, and continued to stand. “Then I’m sure you won’t mind us taking a look, will you?”
A soldier secured a hand around Jaskier’s arm and started to guide him towards the cloakroom of the manor. Geralt stayed close, not wanting to intervene with the region’s lawmen if their complaint was real, but wanting to ensure Jaskier came to no harm all the same. As they walked, Jaskier prattled on about how this was ridiculous and how the Lady of the manor would hear about this, how the soldiers would be dishonourably discharged for daring to humiliate the host’s privately invited bard.
But as one soldier held Jaskier’s arms still, the other reached into the bard’s doublet and removed another small blade. Geralt watched, curious. He knew that Jaskier had enemies but he hadn’t expected him to be carrying blades... or lockpicks. Where those vials of poison? He raised a brow at Jaskier, who was giving him a sheepish smile.
By the time the guards were done, there was a pile of approximately eight small blades, four vials of poison, three smoke bombs, twelve lockpicks, three vials of toxic blade oil, a bushel of narcotic flowers and they had removed his thin rope-like belt as a precaution too. Geralt reviewed the pile with a bewildered eye, these weren’t just the weapons of someone who wanted to defend themselves. This was an assassin’s arsenal.
“You can collect these when you leave the manor,” the soldier announced, letting go of Jaskier. “If it weren’t for the Lady’s express request that you play tonight, we’d be arresting you for conspiracy to commit murder.”
Jaskier gave a breathy laugh and gestured to the intimidating pile of weapons. “For those? Now don’t be daft, those are just... personal...protective....... equipment. Very standard stuff for a bard.”
The solider raised a brow and unceremoniously handed Jaskier his lute before ushering them into the manor. Jaskier walked beside Geralt for a moment, uncharacteristically quiet. When he eventually spoken, Geralt expected some kind of embarrassed explanation or mumbled apology. But instead, Jaskier provided him with another surprise.
“Well, at least I still have my lute strings. Garroting isn’t my favourite method but it’ll do,” he muttered, staring to unwind one of the cat-gut strings from his instrument.
Geralt just stared at him in disbelief. “Since when were you an assassin?” he hissed under his breath.
“Hm? Oh, did you not know? Where on earth did you think I was going after each set?” Jaskier asked, seemingly surprised by Geralt’s minimal knowledge on this subject.
“I thought you were sleeping with the nobility,” Geralt growled. “I can’t stand by and let you murder innocent p-”
“The Baron of Hatropen has been ordering his guards to steal teenage girls from the local villages.” Jaskier said matter-of-factly.
Geralt stopped mid-word and considered this for a long moment. It wasn’t his place to dictate whether or not Jaskier assassinated someone, that was social politics... but it put him in a difficult spot if he was actively covering for the so-called bard. He shouldn’t be involved in this... but he also didn’t like the idea of the Baron with those young girls.
“I’m going to take a walk around and secure the perimeter,” Geralt said pointedly. “I’ll meet you back at the wine table in exactly half an hour.”
Geraskier prompt: maybe Jaksier wants to learn how to fight with a sword and with his fists and asks Geralt to teach him. Maybe Geralt doesn’t want to at first but Jaskier won’t give up so he finally agrees and it turns out Jaskier is a much better and quicker learner than Geralt expects! (Sorry if this isn’t very good, I’ll let you choose how to finish it if you decide to write it)
[Ooh this is a nice one! Sorry it isn't as long, but I hope the feels are still strong:]
Ever since the incident outside of Willoughby, Jaskier had been asking - no, *begging* - Geralt to teach him more about sword fighting and combat. However, Geralt knew better than to arm an idiot. He was half convinced that Jaskier would use the training to smite his enemies rather than use it as self-defence... But his most recent hunt had been dangerous and Jaskier had been vulnerable. So, with a little more weedling, he was persuaded.
"Jaskier, stop twirling the blade. You're not learning from the School of the Cat. You learn like a Wolf or you don't learn at all," he chided, moving to stand behind his companion and pressing the toes of his boots against Jaskier's heels until his feet were in the right position. "Now, keep your center of balance low, let momentum carry the force of your swing."
He stayed directly behind Jaskier, letting him take a few practice swings at the tree they were using as a makeshift target-dummy. He wasn't terrible... For all his social graces, he had a surprising amount of strength behind those fancy clothes.
And suddenly Geralt was thinking of something else under those fancy clothes...
"Good, keep your blade high. Attacks can come at any time," he warned, walking him through a few of the basic parries and swings. "Try not to cross the blade over your body. Turn with the swing."
As they practiced, Geralt found himself placing his palms against Jaskier's shoulders, his back, his arms - correcting his posture, supporting his swings, helping his balance. But he couldn't deny that a part of it was selfish yearning.
Jaskier put in a good effort and gradually tired himself out, breathing heavily. He turned to look at Geralt, bright blue eyes shining with pride. And there, right there... With his skin glistening with sweat, hair disheveled, Jaskier looked more perfect than anything Geralt had ever seen.
He leaned in and kissed him, not conscious of his own actions until it was a moment too late. He broke away, panicked, but Jaskier placed a hand on his chest. 'Stay' it seemed to say, 'It's ok'.
Their lips met again, slow and savouring now. Geralt could taste the salt of his labours on his skin, could feel his fluttering pulse against his fingertips as he cupped Jaskier's cheek. When they eventually parted, Jaskier nuzzled against his jaw.
"Thank you for showing me something new."
ESKEL/GERALT PFOMPT: Eskel is walking down a main road looking for a contact but catches Geralt's scent and desides "to follow it. Jaskier is with Geralt and is shocked how Geralt interacts with this unknown witcher. And Geralt is like "ya....Eskel and I are married. Have been for almost 80 years." #Extreamly Affectionate! Geralt #playful! Geralt #talkative! Geralt #shocked! Jaskier #sweet and soft! Eskel
[Yes!!! Let the Witchers have fun! Let them be s o f t:] The summer had been a particular long one, with oppressive sun and short, restless nights. Eskel hadn’t slept or eaten well in almost a week and he had exceptionally little patience for the wild goose-chase he’d been sent on by someone who insisted their teenager daughter had been snatched away by demons (and not, say, the boyfriend that Eskel could smell all over her room). Still, if he could find a drowner or something and drag it back to the farm, he’d get some easy coin.
But as he crossed over the man-made path of the woods, a familiar scent caught his attention. His gaze flicked up, following the path as far as his vision would allow; if he focused, he could hear voices...
Turning his footfalls to follow the path, he kept his posture low and walked slowly along the softer parts of the road. As he breached the hill, he caught sight of them; the White Wolf and his little bardic pet. Eskel had heard tales of the bard, both from townsfolk with an ear for music (who stupidly asked whether Eskel was the White Wolf Witcher in question), and from Geralt himself during the tortuously short rest of winter.
Geralt was shirtless, washing his jerkin in the stream as the bard, Jaskier, asked for his opinion on certain phrases for his song. Testing the wind, Eskel was pleased to find that he was downwind. Perfect for an ambush. He waited until Geralt’s back was turned, then tore through the woods as quickly as his legs would carry him, throwing himself bodily at the Witcher in the water.
There was a short cry of “Jaskier, my sword!” but it was too late. Eskel tackled Geralt and tumbled them both into the water, laughing as he watched Geralt’s expression shift from an intimidating snarl, to confusion, to joy. Eskel barely had time to gloat before Geralt had rolled them over and was trying to pin Eskel to the riverbank.
“You bastard! I could have cut you in two!” Geralt chided, leaning in to kiss him.
Eskel made a pleased sound against Geralt’s lips, slipping his arms around his partner. “Without your sword? I’d like to see you try.”
“You’re right, guess I’ll just have to try and split you in two some other way,” Geralt retorted, but his gaze tracked upwards and he froze. “Ah... right. No, Jaskier, it’s ok. Put the sword down.”
“Geralt... who is this?” Jaskier asked, his pretty blue eyes seeming to flick between Geralt’s bare chest, Eskel’s scars, Geralt’s face, Eskel’s hands. Smug, Eskel tightened his hold of Geralt and bit playfully at his left pec.
Geralt gasped and cupped Eskel’s cheeks in his palms, giving him a warning look. “This unruly menace is my husband.”
Silence followed for a full minute before Jaskier finally found his words.
“Your husband...”
“Eskel, this is Jaskier. He’s half the reason I bring coin home each winter,” Geralt continued as though this was completely common-place.
“You’re spending your summers with a younger man?” Eskel growled, teasing. “Guess I’ll just have to kill him and steal his fancy clothes.”
Geralt rolled his eyes and leaned in to steal another kiss, his fingertips stroking idly over Eskel’s chest. “At least have some dinner before you kill the bard,” Geralt offered, adjusting his weight so that he could stand and offer Eskel a hand. “I dunno, that ok with you, Bard?”
Jaskier nodded silently, then raised a finger in a ‘wait’ gesture. “On one condition,” he announced.
Eskel frowned, waiting to see what price the bard would demand of him to spend time with his husband.
“You have to tell me all about the wedding.”
