False Royalty | | Elsa + Kristoff
She chuckled, trying to ignore the tingle that spread through her at the intensity of his hesitant gaze. “I have,” she confessed with a small laugh. “It’s been quite some time, I’m afraid, but I’ll take the compliment.” A blush spread across her pale cheeks, and she silently thanked whoever had decided on the insane amount of oddly-coloured lights that would help in masking it.
"Too bad that masks have holes in them and that I did such a good job on the knot, because then we could’ve just used that," Elsa smirked up at him. It was amazing to her how natural it felt with him, even given the tense situations that were going out outside of tonight.
"Perhaps dancing is like riding a bike." He replied with a slight shrug of his shoulders. As the song came to an end, Kristoff found himself hesitant to let go of his partner. He never could have imagined that he'd enjoy dancing, and despite being dreadful at it, it felt quite natural to 'lead' this masked woman around the dance floor. He tried not to read too much into it, it was better if he chalked it all up to the atmosphere.
Even still, a soft smile settled on his lips as he released her hand and let his others hand fall away from her waist. "It was a pleasure being your dance partner." He said, "We should do it again before the night is over, maybe a fast one next time, that'll surely entertain whatever audience we might have. But for now, all this dancing and making a fool of myself has made me starved. would you like to go over to the snack table and see what sort of selection they've set out?"
But what you don't know Is you're too young and eager to love Seething eyes So you're about to get into The ditch that you opened up

She tried to stifle a laugh at his expression. A small smile played across her lips. “A sheep in wolfs clothing. In all seriousness, you shouldn’t feel like a fool. It rather suits you, even if it isn’t your norm.” For her adjusting to Grimmsvale’s ‘style’ hadn’t been all that hard. Then again her style was just simple dresses so it wasn’t much of a change. She smirked, “You could have come dressed like that. I doubt anyone would have said anything and it would have made quite the statement.” As if she would know what made a statement in terms of fashion.
"Ah, so that’s the solution." She joked. A hand was placed on her hip, "I’m not drunk, yet I still manage to find myself having a good time. How do you explain that one." She couldn’t explain why seemed to be able fall into banter like this so naturally with him. It both amused and puzzled the girl. A soft sigh escaped her. Everyone who seemed interested in dancing were already coupled off. The rest of the strangles clung to the walls, talking and raiding the snack table, much like the two of them were doing. "It must be the negative vibes. Though I didn’t really realize I was giving them off."
A smile spread across his own lips and he looked down at his outfit with new eyes. He was severely lacking in the self confidence department as of late but a little encouragement was just what he needed. Maybe he could pull of this look, he just needed to get used to it. "You have no idea how much I needed to hear that." He replied, his smile growing wider. "I'm not sure what stuff like this is even supposed to look like." He shrugged. He chuckled at her comment, "I'm sure that's true, but in cases like this I think it's wiser to blend in. If I came in my usual clothes I don't think it'd be as easy to fade into the background. Everyone might stare."
"You got me there." He replied with another chuckle, shaking his head a little. "Have you had any of the sweets? Maybe it's just a sugar euphoria instead of an alcoholic one." He quirked one of his brows, a smirk on his lips. His eyes went to the dance floor, watching as people twirled around, some gracefully and others no so coordinated. "Well, maybe if someone else saw you dancing, thus proving you are not sending off negative vibes, they'd be more likely to ask you." He suggested, "You and I could dance, if you'd. You know, for theory's sake."
Late to the Ball / Aurora & Kristoff
The laugh escaped before she could reign it in, a soft bright bubble of it that only prompted another when she peeked inside. “I think some of them are having enough wine for me, cher.” The princess had never been one drink in excess. A glass of wine or two at the most, just enough to warm her up, to rose up her cheeks before she was done for the evening — then again, that’s how princesses were supposed to act weren’t they? But she wasn’t a princess anymore, and part of her wondered if she was ever truly a princess. It never felt like it.Home had been the forest and the cottage within the forest, the solitude along with it.
Aurora could understand his comment about not exactly being a ‘people person’, more than he probably would think. “I didn’t know anyone but my aunts for most of my life — people aren’t my strongest area either.” She admitted with an embarrassed chuckle, her shoulder shrugging up gently. His trailing comment made her frown though, realizing that was still exactly what they were doing, and basically what she’d been doing the entire evening without even realizing it.
Chancing a glance at him, she wanted to apologize again, this time for keeping him but found the words that came out weren’t an apology at all. ”Would you like to have a glass of wine with me?” Just as the laugh the invitation slipped without her consent, but she found she didn’t mind so much. Sure, he was on his way out, and he’d just said he didn’t like parties, but he’d also said it was because he was bored and alone and now he wouldn’t be either of things. Aurora’s lip found it’s way between her teeth again, worrying it slightly in case he said no and she’d have to go in alone. She hoped he wouldn’t. Hoped that perhaps they could take solace in the company of one another, make the evening a touch more enjoyable for the both of them.
"People around here certainly love to drink, don't they?" He looked over his shoulder at the masked party goers on the dance floor and chuckled, shaking his head. "Though I do work at a bar, so I suppose I'm not exactly in a position to gauge whether or not Grimmsvale is actually full of drunks or not." He hadn't drank much, if at all, back in Arendelle and he'd only started to numb the pain and confusion about his feelings for Anna.
Her confession surprised him and it showed on his face, one of his thick dark brows raised and the corners of his mouth turned downward. He never would have imagined that someone as kind as the woman in front of him would have been almost as much of a loner as he had been. "I think I have you beat. I mean, I spent a lot of time with my family, but they weren't technically human." He replied with a chuckle and a shrug of his shoulders. "Not that this is a competition or anything. Being a shut-in isn't exactly something to boast about, is it?" He shrugged again, his gaze going to his brown boots, they were the only thing from his old wardrobe that he absolutely refused to part with. They were worn out, caked with mud, and did not compliment his otherwise sharp outfit but they made him feel a little more like himself.
He looked up at her when he felt her gaze on him, meeting her eyes and offering her a smile. The smile only grew when she asked him to have a glass of wine with her, he gave a little nod of his head. "Sure, why not." He had been intending to leave the event almost of a few moment ago, but it would be rude of him to say no, (he'd never admit, even to himself, but he was actually incredibly lonely and would gladly accept any company that was offered to him.) "Shall I escort you to the drink table?" He asked, smirking and offering her his arm.
Party Lights || Alice & Kristoff
A smile played across her face. “Thank you. It was a sort of stroke of luck, really.” When she bought the dress she hadn’t expected to find a mask that would fit it perfectly. Not that she was complaining. “You look charming as well.” She toyed with a bit of fabric as she looked out across the crowd. A soft laugh escaped her. “Either way they seem to be enjoying themselves.” She quirked a brow, “It begs the question as to why you seem to be an exception to the merriment.” It wasn’t as if he was trying to hide it. Given now and their previous encounter, it was clear that he wasn’t exactly a people person. The fact that he even came at all seemed a little surprising to the girl. When the topic of dancing came up she profusely shook her head. “Oh I don’t really dance. I never have really. Besides who would I dance with.” It’s not that she was bad at dancing, she just never liked it. There was never a real reason as to why, it was just how she had always felt.
At her comment he looked down at his outfit and wrinkled his nose, "I feel like a fool. I don't usually wear stuff like this but I couldn't very well come to a masquerade in a tunic and baggy pants, now could I?" He had been working on straying away from his usual clothing choices as per the suggestion of his coworkers at the Hunter's Lounge, they called his fur trimmed tunics and sweat pant like bottoms 'old fashioned' and 'unflattering'. Without him realizing, he emitted an exasperated sigh. He'd resisted adjusting to Grimmsvale for so long, hoping that he would eventually find a way to return to Arendelle, but it looked like he would be stuck in the small town for now and he had no choice but to accept his fate and try to adapt.
"I'm immune because I'm not drunk." He replied with a chuckle, "At least half the people in this room have drank more than their weight in wine and beer." He shrugged his shoulders, a playful smirk on his lips. He was a little surprised that she dismissed dancing so quickly, for some reason he thought that the young woman would enjoy twirling around the dance floor in her elegant gown but he'd obviously been wrong. "I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd been interested in dancing with you." He replied, "But it must be that you're putting off negative dancing vibes." He would have asked her if she hadn't been so obviously opposed to it.

Despite the magic not working here, she had noticed that she still ran cold. It didn’t bother her, really, but it wasn’t until she touched someone, like Kristoff taking her hand in his, that she realised how strong the difference was. But she liked heat too, probably for the same reason Olaf had longed for summer; it was human nature to like different things. She smiled up at him, inching closer as well, and placing her hand on his shoulder. “Never know until we try,” she shrugged, chuckling softly.
She followed his awkward lead, laughing softly. “It’s all right. You’re trying, and that’s what counts.” Part of her wanted to take the lead to help him out, but she didn’t want to frighten him away by appearing superior. She wasn’t much of a dancer, herself, but she’d had cotillion lessons as a child before the incident, and she knew more than him. But another part acted before she could think much on it other than knowing that it was a safer move, and she removed her hand from his shoulder long enough to gently press beneath his chin with two fingers so that he wasn’t staring at his feet. “It’s easier if you don’t focus so hard on it,” Elsa explained, smiling in gentle reassurance and returning her hand to its former place. “If they’re watching, then clearly they have nothing better to do. At least they’re getting a show, we should be charging them a viewing fee.”
He had never been a particularly coordinated person, the tempo of his swaying was at odds with the music streaming from the speakers around the dance floor, but still a smile spread across his lips. "I'm sure you wouldn't be too surprised to learn that this is the first time I've ever actually purposefully danced." He whispered with a nervous chuckle. "You, however, seemed like you've had some practice. Despite your little accident earlier, you seem quite graceful." He still wouldn't look at her, he continued to concentrate on his feet and they shifted from side to side in jerky, stiff, movements. He was making an absolute fool of himself, but he was focusing too hard to care. His dark brows furrowed in deep concentration without him realizing.
When he felt her cool fingertips behind his chin he snapped to, raising his head and straightening his back, like an electric current ran through his spine. His eyes met hers for the first time since they'd started dancing, and the blush that had been gradually making it's way onto his cheeks burned bright red. "I was right, you have done this before." He replied, a smirk tugging at one corner of his lips. "Too bad I opted not to wear a hat tonight, we could have passed it around the room and collected tips." He joked with another nervous chuckle.
If you're scared to be alone Then come love me and live in my home Have all the stars left your eyes Have they gone back into the skies I don't wanna clean my room Cause I might clean my memories of you

"I was multitasking," she mocked offense, before letting a small smirk win over her features. "I was balancing in these heels, not tripping, and got distracted,” Elsa chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. This was the Kristoff she missed, the playful and loose Kristoff she’d first met. Not the one she’d run into in the park the other night. “But I appreciate you keeping my secret.”
"Well, if you end up stepping on my toes, then we can just call it even for the night, can’t we?" The blonde smiled up at him, chuckling softly. "I don’t dance much, myself, so it’s equal hazard. But I’m up for the challenge." A voice in the back of her mind tried to voice its concerns to her, but she pushed it aside as she placed her small hand in his larger one. "We shall."
Her fingers were cold, like she was anemic or had poor circulation. He wanted to wrap it in both his hand to try and warm them, maybe blow on them with his warm breath, but of course he didn't. He tried not to react, but a small shiver raddled his body, though he wasn't absolutely certain that it was the coolness of her skin that produced that reaction, perhaps it was that this was the closest to a woman, or any person for that matter, since Anna. He inhaled a sharp, silent, breath and took a step closer to his partner, letting his hand hover beside her hip, not quite touching her. "This is a recipe for disaster." He said, his eyes downcast and a smirk on his lips.
He tried to sway to the music, but he could even remember the last time he'd ever danced, or if he'd ever danced before at all. "I'm supposed to be leading, right?" He asked, cocking his head to one side, still looking down at his feet and they stepped from one side to the other, he couldn't work up the courage to look up and see how close he truly was to her, even thinking about that fact made his cheeks flush scarlet. "I'm sorry for leading you astray." He joked, trying not to step on her tiny feet. "I'm sure anyone who is watching me right now is quite amused."
Party Lights || Alice & Kristoff
She didn’t recognize him immediately, but she did recognize him. It was the way he spoke and held himself that made her recognize him. The man she met at the park a few nights ago, though she wasn’t sure if he recognized her or not. The girl shrugged. “I could have gone without the mask, but getting all dressed up for something does nice.” Something about it gave her a warm feeling inside. Maybe it was the fact that she actually had something to do. Maybe it was because it gave her a sense of beauty and elegance that she didn’t feel everyday. “So far I am. I like the general atmosphere of it all. I haven’t been to a party like this in a long time. And for once I find myself enjoying one.”
There was something familiar about the young girl and yet he'd tried not to look too closely, attempting to keep some distance between himself and anyone he'd ever met in town. He pressed his back against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest again, looking every bit as defensive as he felt not only for the benefit of the masked young woman he was talking to but as a symbol to the entire event. He would not be enjoy himself, not one bit. "The mask suits you." He said, his voice low, almost drowned out by the music and the festivity. "It compliments the dress." He motioned toward her and shrugged his broads shoulders, a smile threatening to spread on his lips but he pressed them firmly together to keep it at bay. Her response was what he'd expected, he nodded his head and allowed his gaze to wander across the dance floor, taking in all the smiling face and elaborate masks. "The atmosphere is certainly something, most people seem to be in a fairly good mood, or they're drunk at the very least." An awkward chuckle escaped him. "You should go dance." He suggested, "The other townsfolk seem to be enjoying that." The smile he'd been trying to conceal finally broke across his face.
Late to the Ball / Aurora & Kristoff
Taking a closer look, Aurora couldn’t quite make out who it was under the black mask though his eyes were terribly familiar. Brilliant blue and kind, if not guarded under the starless night. She felt a prickle of guilt at not hearing his comment, a small frown unfurling slowly while she worried her deep crimson painted lips between her teeth. “Really I’m sorry” She tried to make amends, taking a small step towards him though careful around her long dress, holding the hem up with her free hand.
She went to offer another apology, or probably make more of a fool of herself when she thought better of it, and with a tiny sigh the lithe woman looked up to the stars above them and the expanse of blackness that oftentimes seemed like it was going to swallow them whole. It was so much like the nightmarish sleep, the endless darkness she endured during her curse that she shivered, though she was thankful she could play it off due to the cold and the breeze currently making the golden tendrils of her hair dance across her shoulders.
"Leaving so soon, monsieur?” She asked suddenly, seeking his company rather than the solitude of the night. Aurora didn’t want to step too close, still unsure of who exactly was under the black mask, but she wasn’t afraid. It wasn’t that she trusted the man outright, but something told her that he wouldn’t try anything, that even if she didn’t know who he was he wouldn’t use it to his advantage.
He held up to his hand to keep her from apologizing again, an easy smile spreading across his lips. "I can't blame you for being distracted. I certainly is a lot to take in." He motioned at the merriment going on behind him and shrugged his broad shoulders. Perhaps, if he weren't so cynical, he could have enjoyed an event like this. He hadn't been lying about the food, the selection of sweets and cocktails was enough to make his head spin and if he weren't so advert to socializing he might have stayed at the masquerade long enough to enjoy more of the treats. Him being a loner put a lot of restrictions on his life, he tried not think of it often, but in situations like this he couldn't help but wonder what could happen if he abandoned all control and simply lived. He'd be much fuller at the very least.
He adjusted his mask again and followed the woman's gaze to the sky. She seemed a little more at ease than the last time they'd met. He saw her shudder in his peripherals and lowered his eyes, one of his thick dark brows raised. "You should probably head inside." He suggested, "It's much warmer." Another smile spread across his lips, "Not to mention how warm you could get if you drank a few glasses of wine." He shrugged his shoulders, emitting a chuckle. He'd seen a few flushed face party goers earlier that evening, prancing and stumbling around the dance floor, not at all bothered by the evening chill.
Her inquiry made him smile. He shoved his hands in the pockets of his trousers and shrugged for the third time in their conversation. "I've never been much of a party person." He admitted, "Or a people person." He added, subconsciously wrinkling his nose. "I was getting a little bored with standing in the corner watching everyone else have a good time." He muttered, the words coming out of his mouth without him thinking them through.

She laughed at that, glancing down at the dress’s hem where her shoes were hidden. Sure enough, she’d chosen a pair of icy heels that matched the rest of her outfit, wanting to feel every bit like the queen she’d been back home in such an ensemble. But she knew he was only teasing, and it was so easy to play along with a mask on. “I will accept the title of klutz with the footnote that I was distracted. I don’t want a reputation of being unable to walk in heels or a fancy gown,” she smirked.
You’re an ice master, didn’t you once climb mountains or something that involved ropes? She wanted to stay, but tonight wasn’t about the past. Besides, silk was different from the coarseness of rope. It had to be tied tighter, more firmly. “Serious injury is always a good thing to avoid,” she chuckled, reaching for the ties and looping them around each other firmly. Unseen behind his back, she smiled and nodded. “I think that would be best, we wouldn’t want it to fall off in the middle of this crowd. I already proved that it could be dangerous, and I’m sober, unlike most people, I’d wager.” Securing it in place with a double and an extra tug for good measure, she stepped back to admire her handiwork. “There. Too tight?”
"Aren't women supposed to be skilled multitaskers?" He asked, a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of his lips. He wasn't sure what was coming over him, whether he was certainly taking full advantage of wearing a mask and having a bit of anonymity or because he was already so comfortable with the woman he was conversing with. "Still, I promised I would keep a secret." He added with a shrug of his shoulders and a quick wink. "As far as everyone else at this little soiree, they'll be none the wiser."
"I'm not all that coordinated as it is." He admitted, "And while the mask has been a complete nuisance all evening, and quite dangerous, I'm taking a huge risk with this whole dancing thing." He stood to his full height and put his hands to his mask, giving the woman a nod of approval. "Seems pretty secure, and no, not too tight." He inhaled a shaking breath, swallowing against the ball of nerves that formed at his throat threatening to put a damper on his night. He cleared his throat and willed it away before holding out his hand to the woman and allowing a playful smirk to finally spread across his face. "Shall we?"
I'm a young soul in this very strange world Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake. But why all this hate? Try to communicate Finding trust and love is not always easy to make.

Kristoff, she thought, looking up with wide blue eyes as he adjusted his mask. It seemed that he didn’t realise who she was, perhaps it was because he hadn’t truly looked at her yet. But she imagined that her voice should’ve been enough… then again, it was a bit loud. “I doubt that,” she returned the soft chuckle, taking care to keep her voice at a pitch so that perhaps he couldn’t hear who she really was. He would probably know, but some part of her wanted to keep the mystery, to act like they were just friends instead of probably-almost-siblings-in-laws with a history that was tearing them apart right now. She missed him, he had been a friend, the first friend after the mess following her coronation, and he had never truly judged her for that, not that she was aware of, at least.
"Do you need help tying it?" She offered politely, gesturing to his mask. "The ribbons can be slippery, but it is interesting to see everyone’s masks." Elsa looked around for emphasis, taking in the vast array of different masks. They seemed to say a lot about the individual, or at least that’s what she imagined they did. Her own was a testament to that fact.
Maybe, somewhere deep in his conscious, he knew that the woman before him in the beautiful blue gown was Elsa, but the point of wearing a mask and attending a masquerade was the air of mystery and while the event had been a dud for him thus far, there wasn't any reason that he couldn't turn the night around and force himself to enjoy it. A soft smile spread across his pale lips and he shrugged his shoulders, "I was only trying to make you feel less like a klutz, in actuality the fault was all on you but if you wanted to blame it on the train of your dress or the height of your heels, I could keep a secret." He teased, an effortless chuckle escaping him.
He followed her gaze around the ballroom and nodded silently, he would not let his cynicism ruin what little progress he'd made, so he bit his tongue. "It probably doesn't help much that I have no idea how to make a decent knot." He said with a shrug of his shoulders, "I'd greatly appreciate your assistance that way I can avoid serious injury." He turned around and bent down so that he could reach the back of his mask. "Once you're done tying it, perhaps I should test it out and make sure it's secure...we could dance or something."
