“ Hey, sorry I’m late I was finishing unpacking and I lost track of time.”
“Oh cheer up love, I’m not going to hurt you…much.” She said resting a hand on her hip as she looked the girl up and down. “Don’t worry you’re not going to remember this once you walk away. I’ve compelled you, it’s the only fun I have anymore. Not tell me your name, and where your from and your deepest desire. Go.”
nl. She could not understand why she instantly wanted to do everything this woman demanded of her. She spoke as if she had no control what so ever. “My name is Tristan Davis, but actually it should be Lockwood. I am from Florida, and I want my father to accept me.” It was like word vomit, a trance of some sorts. “If this is your version of fun you must be sick. Who are you.... or what are you?”
She moved quickly so as soon as the girl had turn she had been right there. “Aw now come on love, I’m bored, where is the fun.” She said before looking in her eyes to compel her, “Now why don’t you stay for a bit, I do enjoy a good chat.”
A horrific feeling overcame her as she tried to run but her body refused. She suddenly felt the need to stay, and endure the woman’s conversation. “I’m going to stay here.” The words escaped her lips with no thought and as soon as they were in the air she began to panic. ‘Why can’t I move? What are you doing to me..?”
“I gotta get better at guessing people’s ages,” Caleb muttered to himself.”Well, just because he’s your dad doesn’t really mean much. I mean, I spent 14 years pretty much hating my dad.” He sighed. “Remember how I said this town isn’t known for its safety?”
“Don’t beat yourself up, I’ve always looked old for my age.” She smirked. “And I spent 18 years thinking a man who I have loved my whole life was my dad only to find out he was not.” She looked at him with a sad expression, she could relate to the estranged feeling that comes from never being as close as you would like to a parent. “I am sorry for your relationship with your dad, but I just want to meet this guy and decide if he is even worth calling a father.” She shrugged her shoulders and gave a nonchalant look but then caught onto to what he was getting at. “Wait.. are you saying something could have happened to him?”
Shane looked at the girl in front of him. “There’s been some sort of attack.” He could see the shock in her eyes. “.. Are you alright?”
Tristan nodded, unable to pull her eyes away from the scene. “Yes. I think, I have just never seen a crime seen before.” She swallowed and turned back to the officer. “Did someone die..?”
“ I wouldn’t get your hopes too up, though. You’re, what, twenty? A lot happens in twenty years. Especially in this town.” Caleb waved his hand. “It’s no big deal, you don’t have to repay me.”
“Eighteen actually. I know, and I am not expecting much. I don’t even know if he would want to speak to me, I just have to some kind of faith right? I mean he’s my dad.” She tilted her head in question. “What do you mean; Especially in this town..?”
She stopped punching for a moment before she turned around and then gave the girl a warm smile, “We did! How’ve you been?” she asked, her forehead beaded with sweat and her voice breathless from the hard workout.
“I’ve been good, I haven’t gotten lost again in a few days so that’s progress. How about yourself, looks like your getting a good workout in? It took me forever to find a gym.” She did a take around the room, observing the equipment for a moment before returning her gaze to Sonia.
If you don’t shut up I’m literally going to rip your head off.
The bar was filled with people, and most of them being overly intoxicated men. Tristan sat quietly and watched the scene unfold around her, but a woman caught her eye. She was getting her ear talked off by a belligerent man. She couldn’t help but laugh a bit when the woman told him to shut up, once he walked away she leaned towards the stranger. “That was kind of awesome.”
Waking up in the bed he knew wasn’t his, and it wasn’t Elena’s house, he looked around still fully clothed, exhaling a deep breath, “This is the moment I have to get focused and stop drinking my problems away.”
When the man finally awoke, Tristan let out a breath of relief. “I would say that is a good idea.” She got up from the chair she had been sitting in and offered the stranger some water. “It was last call, and you were to drunk to tell me where you lived and it was either this or they call the cops.” She stopped for a moment and chuckled. “I am just glad your alive.”
Shane sighed. “I understand you’re in a rush, ma'am. But the area is under investigation. I’m gonna need you to get back in your car and turn around.” When the woman in front of him continued complaining, he motioned to the officer next to him to escort the woman away. Turning back around, he headed towards the crime scene. Hearing footsteps approaching him, he stopped and turned to the person coming towards him.
Tristan had never seen anything like this; cop cars, yellow tape it was as scary as it was intriguing. She stopped when she saw the first officer that seemed approachable. “Excuse me... what is going on here?”
As a bartender, Tyler was always subjected to people’s rants and complaints about their life. He actually didn’t mind it because now his head was filled with the secrets of every other person in the town. Kept him from his own problems. “You’re alright.” He reassured as he leaned against the table. “Which motel are you staying at?”
“Mystic Inn; definitely going to be giving it two stars on Trivago.” She joked, but she really had no options. Her parents would not send her money, so her funds were limited for the time being. “But the alchol makes the bed feel a lot comfier.” She chuckled with a smile. “Please tell me why this town doesn’t have a Hilton or Embassy suites... or anything but these Bed and Breakfasts..?” She paused with an awkward smile on her lips. “and I’m totally trash talking your town.. .and for that I’m sorry.”
“Just ignore the body on the ground, it’s already dead.” She said gently sucking the warm blood off her fingers. “Well as good as dead, either way no chance of saving him.”
Tristan stood frozen; she was a little drunk but not this drunk. “What..” She had no words, but her heart felt as though it was going to pound out of her chest. “He’s dead?” She looked at the body once more, and then every fiber in her being told her to run. She began to back up as she turned to sprint.
“Finally, someone who speaks my language.” Victoria chuckled, heading in the direction of the bar. “Oh sweetie, you probably don’t want to know. This town is too crazy for words.”
She looked at the girl with a sly smile. “Crazy for words? You do realize we are in Virginia not Vegas right..?”
“Ahh, it’s been a long time since I’ve been to one of those,” Stefan chuckled, “Well, welcome to our small town.” Stefan bit the edge of his lip in nervousness when she mentioned Mason. Mason had been dead for years. Damon had ripped his heart out. “I haven’t seen him in years,” Stefan told her. It was an honest answer.
Tristan’s eyes widened at his words. “Wait, but you know him?” It was the first lead she had, the first real connection to her father... no matter how small. She leaned forward, with obvious excitement. “You don’t happen to know where he lives do you? Or something... I am just trying to track him down.”
“Oh, I’m just working out. Didn’t mean to hog the room.”
. “Oh, you’re fine.. I just didn't want to interrupt.” It took Tristan a few seconds, and she recognized the woman from the street. “Wait, we met the other day right?” She rested her body against the wall, as her hands played with a water bottle.
“That happens a lot. You a newcomer? You’re giving that newcomer vibe when you ask questions like that.”
“Well I thought I was blending in, but I guess not.” She shrugged with a smile. “I got here about a week ago, so you could say that...”
