@thefrailtyofeverything
Humans emit roughly 30 to 40 billion tons of CO2 into the Earth's atmosphere annually. We would have to cover the entire US with trees to capture 10%.
There is literally not enough land in the world to plant enough trees to mitigate from the CO2 we emit to stop climate change or even slow it down significantly.
I can only watch one or two episodes of s7 orange is the new black at a time.
They are so powerfully emotional that I have to get up and walk away. Breathe.
This world that we live in is so fucked up.
From how we treat each other to how we treat our environment. All of it. Human beings, we suck at everything. We corrupt everything we touch.
It’s just... It takes a lot out of me. 😞
‘There is no escape from ecological collapse
So let’s revolt and fix it’
This world is shit.
We’re animals pretending to be men.
Worse than a mad dog.
Uglier than the lowest bar.
Humanity disgusts me.
People enrage me.
Trash from the ground,
Dropped by the trash that moves around.
Killing species and our earth,
But its ok as long as they got enough.
Short term game,
The reality is its insane.
I aint gonna lie tho,
Theres good in the world,
but damn is it hard to find tho.
Just like the peace in my heart, a never ending slide show.
Feels like the whole world is devouring itself.
Feels like were expiring up on the shelf.
Ive been silent, trying to hide this.
But i hate everyone and everything. Im far from sane,
People thinking there worthy just because of a position.
Trash thinking cash is the ever last.
Fuck the money and the politics.
Its sick and twisted.
The people of this world are not worth a minute.
To judge me, who the fuck you kidding?
Ill gladly die before i stare into one judgemental eye,
Ill gladly fall, and you can go to hell with them all.
I know some people think I am unreasonably concerned about stuff like this but seriously, consider for a second the effect an extremely fast and permanent change in our weather patten will have on food and water production? Just import more? From where? This is a global problem remember. Scientists will save us? With what? Magical new technologies? Which ones? The ones they haven’t spontaneously thought of yet or the ones that don’t get given the time and funding to find out if they will even actually work let alone if they can scale up? I don’t like those odds given that our lives depend on it!
Our very survival, just like that of every other species, is predicated on sources of food, water and shelter. That’s it. All of which have an uncertain future regardless of what we do now and to be honest it just makes me really sad when people don’t see, or worse, make fun of my fears 😢
And also nothing about us means we are immune from going extinct just like the uncountable amount of species before us. Most famously the dinosaurs. We can’t adapt and overcome these changes if the rest of the natural world can’t do it along with us and at this rate, it will not be able keep up...

It is the day after the winter solstice 2018, the longest period without the heat of sunlight of the entire year, and not once yet this winter have I had to de-ice my car before work like I usually do...
I think someone need to make a climate change app game; where no matter what path you choose humans don’t make it.
It astounds me how people lump the environment in with other political ‘issues’ such as immigration, education, the NHS et al. It isn’t even on the same level as those other problems. Some people even prioritize the other things above it - which in the absence of ignorance is absolutely shocking and shameful. The trivialization is completely baffling, It’s like discovering you have a bomb attached to your bicycle that you know is going to explode in x amount of time, so you know you have to diffuse it - you even know how to diffuse it… but you really want to go on a bike ride. Which should I do first? Diffuse the bomb or go on the bike ride? Damn, I’m quite hungry too, maybe I should make a sandwich first.
I hear people all the time making the observations but not joining the dots
Overheard someone in the supermarket just now complaining about the small size of the potatoes
Why I am sad today
So I was invited to a clients Christmas dinner last night, and they are nice enough people don’t get me wrong, but they are such selfish idiots.
The director of the company actually said, in a jokey tone but with no hint of this not being his actual opinion, ‘according to top gear the weather in Britain will be more like the south of France over the next 50 years which is alright with me I’ll be long gone by the time that’s over it’s your problem. Well it will be your problem I drive a 6 litre!’
Now, how awful is that to say to someone. Someone who, according to that prediction, it will be their problem and he has no hesitation of telling them, TO THEIR FACE, that he is going to unashamedly continue to contribute to the cause of it.
Ignoring the fact he is citeing a douchey, idiotic car program (which I will admit have enjoyed in the past and has its place as entertainment) as his source of information, he is clearly ignorant of what the consequences of climate change actually are and that he is not safe from them. He doesn’t realise the ‘problem’ we are going to have to overcome is a lack of food, water and shelter. The consequence for not overcoming these by the way is death. This man has many grandchildren. Does he not see how they will suffer? For my own sanity I have to believe that he just doesn’t know and its not that he is a sociopath.
As the evening went on it was evident that no one at the table was even a little bit concerned that the future might be difficult. They talked about their next foreign holiday, football transfers, sales they need to make next year, buying plastic disposable cutlery so it doesn’t matter if their kids accidentally throw tea spoons away!
They moaned about how long it took their drinks to turn up and how small the lobster was. They commented on petrol prices as if the petrol stations were criminally over charging them.
I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t. I was being treated to a free meal at their expense. And there is no way to explain in only a few hours over dinner, to people who are so evidently uninterested, the conclusions I have come to after all my reading and thinking on the subject. How what they think and how they behave is so wrong.
So I sat in silence and patiently waited for the end of the evening. Staring out the window of the taxi I thought about how these people were in the majority and was again reminded how screwed we all are. With people like this at the helm, the ones with the money, the ones with the only real power in this capitalist cage we have built for ourselves, nothing is going to get done. We will all suffer the consequences of climate change. Good or evil. Rich or poor.
At best it will destroy civilisation as we know it and kill billions of people through either starvation, disease, natural disaster or violence. At worst cause the extinction of all/most of complex life on earth.
It’s been a little over a month since the climate change news and I stopped seeing posts about it a day after. Aren’t you scared? Is everyone seriously so apathetic they’ve just accepted that they could starve to death in their lifetime? What have you done since you heard the news? Change your lifestyle, this isn’t in 50 years..this is in TEN YEARS. No one around me seems to care or ever talk about it. Please join as many environmental/volunteer groups in your area as you can, please be one of the people who are DOING something
XKCD’s excellent presentation on historical global temperature and anthropogenic global warming.
[After setting your car on fire] “Listen, your car’s temperature has changed before.”
For the “Earth’s climate has changed before” crowd.
me, holding back during a job interview: i just want to go someplace beautiful before its all irreversibly ruined by corporate-caused climate change. I need to experience it all before it’s gone and document as much as possible
It’s just too big a problem
Sometimes I think it’s because people don’t think about the consequences
Sometimes I think it’s because people don’t care
Sometimes I think it’s because people are truly still ignorant about what is happening in the world
But what I think it must be, is it’s just too big an issue for most people to truly comprehend. Even I struggle to see the entire picture at once.
Iv been thinking about trying to map it out in a spider diagram or something. All the different ways the human race (and most every other living thing) is totally fucked.
Most people don’t want to think about it. I get it, it’s scary and people instinctively don’t follow that train of thought very far. They make light of it or bush the topic aside. It’s as if their subconscious is protecting them from the helpless I feel every time I’m reminded that we can’t have long left.
Every time I see rubbish on the streets, all the plastic in the super markets, the unsettlingly warm weather, the guilt when I fill my car. Every day I fight the constant oppression of knowing that realistically there is no way to change what’s going to happen. Every day I carry the weight of thinking about how I might try to navigate and survive the soon to be rapid onset of societal collapse.
Every time I see a young child or I hear someone has had a baby I’m hit with this horrible mixed emotion, you can’t not be happy for the parents but... there’s this shading of sadness that there is just no future for them. Not for any of us.
It can’t be scaremongering if it’s true right? If it’s going to end badly it will end badly regardless of how much you try to ignore it.
So is it not better to imbrace the truth? Prepare for what will happen rather than what we would like to happen?
The future is under no obligation to be better than the past.
I guess what scares/fascinates me the most is that most people have no idea what’s coming. Not a damn clue. They think the super markets will always be full, they will always be able to fill there cars, the lights will always come on and there will always be water in the taps. It doesn’t even cross their minds that these things could just disappear any day now and what would happen when they do.
