The Final(e) Straw || Katlet
It was this part that Katya didn’t like; the part where she had to pretend to be as confident as her colleagues while she strut her freaky stuff on the red carpet. What made this time worse was that she would be doing it without Violet and even without a final reply from her secret lover and it broke her little Russian heart. Sticking (sort of) close to Trixie got her through the drilling interviews and the awful interviewers that poked at her, asking who she would kai kai with and instead of giving what she seemed to be the boring, monogamous answer, she answered Trixie every time, smiling and joking with each of the people who approached her.
As the interviews went on, the blond gazed at Violet from across the way, oversize lashes fluttering as the pair effortlessly grew closer together. But even when they were only a few feet apart, it felt like miles were between them. And then she saw Pearl touching Violet, making her shrink down out of her bout of confidence and she began to clam up. What was Vi doing with her? Why her? She could do better than a middle aged man with thinning hair and a dad bod. And who was better than Katya? Pearl. The sleepwalker was everything that Katya couldn’t be; pretty, young, and stupid. As the self loathing took over, Katya began to deny that she would win miss congeniality and just shrugged it off, trying to be as bubbly and disgusting as usual.
Finally, the season seven girls were on break and Katya would get to see the only person who could calm her nerves; Violet. Her girlfriend meant so much to her and even though most of her insecurities were currently based around their relationship, she needed the comfort of the raven haired vixen. Then, she saw the beauty and opened her arms as Vi rushed to her, arms flying around her. “Oh god, I missed you more than I’m willing to admit. I missed you so much I made some passes at RuPaul. We might be having a piss playing threesome. That’s a warning.” She laughed, doing what she did best, which was pretending to be A-okay.
Violet felt like she was laughing for the first time - or at least laughing for real and not the fake squeal of air she’d make whenever the press made a joke she would bet even they didn’t find funny. Of course, her premiere impulse was to kiss Katya all over to express gratitude for lifting her spirits, but since there mugs were meant to look immaculate till the end of the night, she refrained and opted for a crushing hug instead. “I love you,” She murmured into the sequin monstrosity she was wearing. Their cue to took their places back on stage for the crowning of MC only made her want to cling tighter but she knew Katya had a title to win and a $5,000 prize to claim. Smacking and squeezing her ass in support as she was escorted off, she called out a cliche “go get ‘em tiger!” but it was all for formality purposes since she knew that consolation award had her boyfriend’s name written all over it.
And like 99.9% of the time, Violet had been right. Katya was this season’s Miss Congeniality because duh and she remembered praying that Tumblr would get on to their lightening speed giffing so she could watch her reaction face on a strict repeat. And like she had vowed before, with Violet’s inevitable coronation, the two would be immortalized as Season Seven’s Royal Couple….’cause when it’s right, it’s right. Naturally, she still had to win first. Lining up with her fellow finalists, she squeezed Pearl’s hand extra hard with pent up nerves, despite knowing that the real winner wouldn’t be revealed until a week from now when the episode aired. It would still be overwhelming to hear her name being called into context as America’s Next Drag Superstar…. except she hadn’t heard her name or Ginger or even Pearl’s for that matter. She had heard Katya’s. Gagged beyond description, she witnessed the former hooker float on stage as the audience gasped at this startling twist ending. When Ru then let them in on the joke by asking for a sip of water, Violet was the first to shriek “Oh my fucking god!” If Katya thought she’d hear the end of this little stint that nearly murdered Violet right there and then, she surely had another thing coming.
Fresh faced and out of geishe, Violet was still relishing in the high from her crowning taping and though she should have stayed back and chatted with high profile recruiters, she went on a wild goose chase to find her fellow winner. Of course, she was already de-dragged since the process took half as long as it did for Violet and was lounging on one of the seats in the grand foyer with Trixie. Acting as if the clown fish wasn’t even present, she jumped onto her lover’s lap and pulled her into a bruising kiss. “Congratulations babe!” She trilled, wrapping her arms around her neck. “We’re gonna have so many rounds of celebratory sex tonight it’s gonna be unreal, but first…I’m gonna need a drink of water.”
