[id. A twitter post by @/Bennieeexyz Jury duty letter came addressed to my cat. Not a mistake. "Felix Martinez" - that's his full name according to his vet records. My last name. His first name. Somehow he's a registered voter now. Called the county clerk. Me: My cat got summoned for jury duty. Clerk: Is the name correct on the summons? Me: Yes, but he's a cat. Clerk: Is Felix Martinez a legal resident of this county? Me: He's a legal cat. Clerk: Sir, if the name matches our records, he needs to appear or file an exemption. Me: He can't file anything. He has paws. Clerk: You can file on his behalf. Me: Under what exemption? There's no box for "is a cat." Clerk: (pause) Check "unable to serve due to medical reasons." Me: What's the medical reason? Clerk: He's a cat. Me: That's not a medical condition. Clerk: It is if it prevents him from serving. Sent in the form. Got rejected two weeks later. "Insufficient documentation. Please provide medical professional's statement." Took the letter to my vet. Me: I need you to write that my cat can't do jury duty. Vet: Why is your cat summoned for jury duty? Me: Excellent question. No good answer. Vet: This is the weirdest request I've gotten. Me: Can you just write that he's medically unfit to serve? Vet: On what grounds? Me: He's a cat. Vet: (started typing) "Patient is unable to serve due to species-related limitations including inability to speak, read, or comprehend legal proceedings." Me: Perfect. Sent it in. Got another rejection. "Summons is mandatory. Failure to appear will result in contempt of court." My roommate thought this was hilarious. Roommate: Felix is going to jail. Me: This is serious. Roommate: Bring him to court. See what happens. Decided that was actually the only option left. Day of jury duty, put Felix in his carrier. Brought the entire paper trail of rejection letters. Checked in at the courthouse. Clerk: Name? Me: Felix Martinez. Clerk: (looked at the cat carrier) Is that Felix? Me: Yes. Clerk: (long stare) He's a cat. Me: I've been saying that for six weeks. Clerk: Why didn't you file an exemption? Me: I filed three. All rejected. Showed her the letters. She read through them, expression shifting from confusion to disbelief. Clerk: Someone rejected the veterinary documentation? Me: Twice. Clerk: (called her supervisor over) You need to see this. Supervisor read everything. Looked at Felix. Looked at me. Supervisor: How did a cat get registered to vote? Me: You tell me. Supervisor: This is a data error. Me: Took you six weeks to figure that out. They dismissed Felix immediately. Apologized for the inconvenience. Supervisor: We'll remove him from the voter registry. Me: Appreciate it. Supervisor: (pause) Out of curiosity, how would he have voted? Me: Probably whatever party supports universal treats. Got a formal apology letter a week later and a voter registration card. For me this time. Apparently I wasn't registered, but my cat was. Roommate: Felix committed voter fraud. Me: Felix committed nothing. He's innocent. Roommate: That's what they all say. Felix is sleeping on the jury summons now. Fitting end to his legal career. end id]

Had a dream last night that there was a new Fu Hua battlesuit that just incorporated literally every other battlesuit she has into one. Like you hit a button and it changes her combat style into one of her battlesuits so you can like cycle between night squire for physical shieldbreak and switch to shadow knight if you need elemental damage and azure empyrea to self buff. AND they gave her a huge stat boost. Biblically accurate Fu Hua.

How do you think Sirin and Vita would interact? Fellow traumatized girlies… for very different reasons, and coping in very different ways

Hmm. I think they would get along quite well – until Vita is discovered to be lying and/or manipulating. Then Sirin would really dislike her.

After that though, Sirin would probably grow to basically want to kill Vita, because Sirin just cant trust her, altough never finding a proper justification to get rid of her. I'm not caught up on Part 2, but from what I've played, Sirin would probably be stopped from killing Vita by "she manipulated things to make it easier for us" or "she never caused harm to those Sirin cares about" which would lead Sirin to begrudgingly accept Vita staying around.

After Vita's exposed to doing any manipulating or lying, any attempt to relate or open up to Sirin about her past would be met with Sirin thinking Vita's trying to earn sympathy points and manipulate her.

I wonder what Vita would think of Sirin. Probably that she’s a lucky child who’s been given the power to lash out, something Vita never had.

There’s interesting parallels in their situations. Both yearn for family and lose people close to them; both suffer from powerlessness regarding the suffering inflicted onto them. A higher power tortures them and cuts off their connections, and there’s nothing they can do until they gain their own higher power.

The difference is that Sirin was a powerless victim while Vita was the knife— wielded by someone else, equally powerless, but the blood is on her hands from the start.

Sirin’s mother died of illness, Sirin’s friends die because Schicksal kills them.

Vita’s friends and the siblings she raises all die over and over again because of what Sa makes her (and others) do.

The resolution of their suffering and powerlessness is also different.

Sirin’s power is a miracle, and her redemption is one of compassion. She didn’t earn her power; it is a crystallization of her suffering, a boon from a god, and even as she goes from victim to threat people reach out to her until Cecilia finally gets through her.

Vita on the other hand… it might be hard to remember now, but she could only get as powerful as she got because she lied and schemed until Seele became a Herrscher, and Sa had to give Vita enough power to beat her— which was also enough power to break free of Sa’s control. She had to fight tooth and nail for it, for uncountable amounts of time, with very little raw power while enduring enormous grief and guilt.

Very different from a 14 years old granted godlike power to take revenge by the Will because she’d be a category 5 fuck you to human civilization.

Chapter 1 of Sisters of the Void is out on AO3!

Yup! Its here, I remembered to publish it before the day was over.

Basic premise is that Kiana doesnt fall out of the plane, so she lives with K-423 and Siegfried in that cabin in the snowy forest.

And now how will K-423 develop, when she cant just take Kiana's role, and when Siegfried has his real daughter right at home? :)
