This show is gonna be amazing
today's jongerry post has got me thinking. i agree Gerry is def just kind of drifting between the Fears but he's closest to the Eye and the Desolation. the Eye is obv and the Desolation is like 'oh, he burns stuff' but i think its more than that. he doesn't align with them as an avatar as so much as a victim. the fear of destruction is something that haunts him imo, he's lost so much in his life and the little he has, he clings on to. he's way too familiar with pain and he can't really stand to lose anything now. sorry if this makes no sense, i just wanted to share my thoughts to a fellow gerry lover
Hmm this is interesting because i don't read it like that exactly. I do see his affinity to the desolation as more than just him burning books (because some book i don't think could be destroyed with fire), but him burning those books were out of spite of how much his mother loved them.
His desolation streak is very much actively trying to separate himself from his mother and trying to slowly destroy what brings her so much joy and also giving her the power she seeks. So while yes he's a victim of her, I do think he uses the desolation more as an avatar.
But it's interesting to consider how perhaps he's a victim of how the desolation worked on her in the first place too yeah. How he slowly came to realise that it was always her being happy to see the book more than him who had brought the book. How her behaviour was the initial wedge between them anyway that made him slowly realise he wasn't anything more than a means to her ends. Very cool.
