Now that I finally have the chance to write this thanks to the snow storm in PA and a nice day off work, let’s get talking about getting back on track after vacation.
I am back from Disney and back in my groove the same as always as if Disney food never happened. Why am I making this sound easy? Well, because it is as long as you make it that way. Going on vacation and splurging doesn’t mean you don’t have the same goals when you left or come back. You still want to lose weight or eat better, etc. That hasn’t changed. It is no different than your weekly cheat day or night out with friends. Your fitness/health journey should be a lifestyle. It should be a habit imbedded in your brain.
Coming home after eating a few too many of well.... everything ...shouldn’t cause you to fall of your rocker completely. Actually, your nice little binge or cheat meal should make you ditch those cravings. To be honest, I ate so much ice cream and sweets on vacation all I want is green veggies, haha. At the end of the day the choice is yours to fall behind or start up right where you left off. It’s as simple as that. Getting back in your routine should be no different than having to go back to work after your vacation.
So, for those of you who find it difficult to get back to it after vacationing or cheat meals I would like to share my tips and things I do to get stay motivated after not giving a damn for a week.
1. Go grocery shopping. After vacation there usually isn’t any food in my apartment. I ditch anything that can go back before I leave saving myself a disaster. Buy all of your healthy foods you usually do to start fresh.
2. Hit the gym right away. Whether it’s the day you get home or the day after, GET UP AND GO. Do not hesitate. It might be the worst workout but you still managed to try.
3. Cook exciting meals rather than having bland foods. This will keep you from wanting to break away again and remind you how DELICIOUS healthy eating is.
4. Snack on fruit. I have a sweet tooth and if you’re anything like me you need SUGAR for days. Instead of getting ice cream eat fruit instead. Freeze it , blend it, sauté it, eat it raw. Healthy sugars!
5. Drink more water than usual and green tea. I load up on water and tea to detox my body in a simple way.
6. Find the mindset and motivation that you had before you left for vacation. I am very dedicated to health so getting that mindset isn’t hard for me. I remember my goals and I know how I like to eat and like to feel! All that food I ate on vacation is amazing, yes, BUT it makes me feel like crap. At Disney, I literally got sick from a meal because I don’t typically eat that way. That puts me back in the mindset that I want to get back to fitness and health.
7. I remind myself that I will not throw away all of my hard work because I indulged on vacation. I didn’t lose 20+ pounds and train myself to run a half marathon to turn back to my Wendy’s/bud light every night life. This is me now and I want to keep it that way. Healthy, fit, happy.
