I feel like pedophilia is so normalized in Fandom spaces. I saw a video where a grown adult man referred to Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender as his water wife. That is a 14 year old. She is no one's wife. And now, with the new movie out, people suddenly think its okay to sexualize the characters even more because they're adults . It is not okay. And in the Percy Jackson fandom, people do the same thing. Stop sexualizing children. Stop normalizing it. It's disgusting and you should go to jail

Hot take making toph have kids in lok is misogynistic. Yes powerful woman such as toph can absolutely have kids. Katara is an incredibly powerful woman and she has 3 kids! Because it fits her character. Her and aang were end game from episode one. They were always gonna get married. They were always gonna have kids. They are The Family TM. But toph? Toph having kids makes no sense to me. And I get that her kids are a really important part of lok because of metal bending and carrying on her legacy and everything but I hate that! There are so many instances in fiction where a man has a continued legacy through his students or mentors so why cant toph have that? It's because shes a woman. She has a whole bending school that teaches a form of bending SHE INVENTED. She has hundreds of students that can "carry on her legacy." But because shes a woman, she has to "fulfill her biological makings" with her children. She had no love story, she had no partner. I hate what they did to her. They used her for her child bearing potential and not that fact that she is the greatest earthbender of all time with hundreds of students under her teachings and an entire bending method under her belt. I fucking hate it. Justice for Toph guys
I did not hate that she had kids and I absolutely am so fucking in love with Lin Beifong. The only part that I did not like was that they made her such a bad mother to Lin (and Su but she's doing better with Su than Lin). She's allowed to have flaws but making her that kind of mother is just a no for me.
In the gaang, Zuko had Izumi who is a well adjusted adult and kataang raised their kids to be well adjusted adults too. Why is it that the single mother of 2 daughters was the one who turned out to be a bad mother? It's like the career woman vs tradwife choice yet again. Like she became a cautionary tale of this is what would happen if you're a single mother who was also career driven.
I just hope they release some content of Toph actually wanting her kids and showing that they meant the world to her. Lin and Su deserved to be loved and wanted. Anyway, I vote to retcon the "toph is a bad mother" storyline. she can be a mother and a police chief too.
I also love lin and I absolutely agree with ur statement on the bad single mother agenda they seem to be pushing. In my opinion, I think toph was just completely mischaracterized in lok. I dont think she'd be a mother, I dont think she'd be a police chief. And I feel like they just completely diluted her character. I dont think that lok Toph is anything like atla toph. And yes people can absolutely change over time, I am someone who understands that personally, but I just feel like lok toph is so far from what she originally was in atla. For once, I just want a strong woman character to not follow the baby making rhetoric. It would've been so easy for toph to be a mentor to Lin and Su, a teacher such as gyatso and I feel like they completely ignored that option in favor of her just having kids. It's not just not necessary, its unnecessary. It actively undervalues a woman character by adding an unnecessary, traditional value that feeds into a misogynistic ideal of what a woman should be
