I got my start doing drag when I attended a drag show and my friends told the emcee that I was an aspiring drag queen. The emcee told me to come to her house the next day and she would paint me up and the rest was history. I’ve also written a play about a drag queen survivor of AIDS that will appear in the Fresh Fruit Festival, NYC this July. I’ve been heavily influenced by Lee Bowery — a true genius. So I am all dragged up with someplace to go!"

Matthew Hewitt as Ginger Bush (Sechelt, BC) - "Looking back on my childhood, I was a drag queen from the age of about six when I got my first Barbie and created an outfit for her. Played with the little pink nail polish that came attached to the dolls and created my very own gowns from blankets found around the house.

Drag is street theater. I love being able to project every part of me out all at once and at the same time, try some new things and relate them for my day to day life. Ginger is a drunk motherly lady, divorced, no children, grew up in the 80s in a small town and  always wanted to be classy and live in the city but still comes off a little trashy with a smile on her face and a bottle of hairspray holding up her hair!"
