D.Mon Theory
so I've thought about this for days and im finally getting around to posting about it because i am that confident and i never make theories. i binged most of the stories to get a feel for overwatch's writing (mostly its pacing and the general direction it seems to be going?) and where characters are right now (this does not include the webtoon)
a lot of people think D.Mon is going to be a Talon agent. I hate that idea for a lot of reasons but like everything I do i have to overthink it and back it up with evidence. let's go over what we know and why i'm coming to this idea
Vendetta is allying with a lot of people. Big, aggressive personalities that think a lot broader than she expects of them. Max, Moira, Mauga in her immediate Talon, but also Domina, Shion, and the Junker Queen (recruited by Mauga). What's happened for each of them?
Shion has great centralized control in Japan under the Hashimoto following Talon's influence in exchange for Kiriko's dad's weaponry. Domina has seen the reputation of Vishkar restored in exchange for her help on technology. Max wants a more aggressive Talon (Vested Interest), Moira's research is allowed to thrive, Mauga's also given something (he referenced this in a voiceline to Baptiste).. but the Junker Queen is left untouched still (unless I missed a comic, or this is in the webtoon...)
Season 1 was aptly named Conquest. Vendetta's rise to power. Season 2 the summit. Season 3 Into the Tiger's Den. Mizuki infiltrates and succeeds in his tasks against Shion's group and returns to Overwatch. If we follow that direction, it's a rise, a peak, and a slow descent. (Season 4 being where they make a mistake? Who knows.) But Vendetta's "allies" are self-involved, angry, and don't respect her. This'll be an issue for her, especially with the Talon agents who have left and a paralyzed but alive, and awakened Doomfist. For Season 4, we have the visuals of Junker Queen (a Talon affiliate) against D.Va (a MEKA pilot and Overwatch affiliate).
given the previous seasons have had the banner be important to the central story, lets focus on it. The Junker Queen, who has not done anything yet to the story as a new Talon affiliate other than complaining about Mauga messing shit up, facing off against Pilot D.Va, a MEKA soldier and Overwatch hero. What do we know about the Queen? Mech fighting is a SPORT for her, whereas for D.Va, this is about protecting Korea (as well as the world). but what's MEKA up to? what's happening either there, or with the Junkers?
direct changes that have already been greatly noticed. Beast has been removed for upgrades, and a brand new GIANT EMP have entered the discussion
i had someone i knew say this was sombra, and this would be seducing her into joining talon. knowing what i know now, we KNOW she's not going to be doing that, because she's not with talon, and would actively work against them. but it's also a little narrow minded to think the purple emp is sombra's to begin with. an active display of SOMETHING from MEKA base shows something could happen here, but let's ask why JQ would do this
pictured is what is believed to be Kelvin506's mech, a fighter in the Junkertown Scrap Yard. there's another like it without a nameplate. these are fiercely close to the Queen's throne. you know who else likes fighting.. in a stadium.. and takes great pride in damaging mechs?
LA LUPA! I want to point you to some dialogue recently had by the Junker Queen and Vendetta (who recently talked about giving D.Va and her squad a demonstration): "...I've been dreamin' of a takeover for ages!" "And a spectacle it will be. Fight loud, and I will handle the aftermath."
It sounds like a Colosseo champion, as she is and how she rose to power, telling another champion of underground fighting, to do what she does best and planning to watch it with joy. To do what Vendetta calls herself with the utmost pride. THE MECH SLAYER.
A lot of people think this is D.Mon vs D.Va. I did too, and I panicked. But at its core, these are TWO MECHS fighting. Like, you know, Mecha Guardian? Yuna "D.Mon" Lee's only canonical traits are being "tough and protective." This idea that they were rivals (HER RIVAL IS KING, BTW?) came from out of nowhere, and while it LOOKS like it could be them with their color schemes.. I think that's a red herring
so.. what would happen to a faithful MEKA soldier, D.Mon, that causes her introduction that also includes the Junker Queen? This is where getting obsessed over the story has its perks
After rising to glory and killing a Talon leader to send a message, Vendetta seized Talon. She seized alliances by learning about them and backing them into a corner. She assaulted Overwatch's most familiar base and left it in pieces. She lives up to her inspired mythos of Romulus, the warrior who slayed his brother after raised by a She-Wolf. A state-of-the-art set of soldiers and technology is a direct challenge to her military prowess and a personal joy to crush. I think MEKA's going to be attacked which will introduce...
THE BEAST OF BUSAN.
Yuna "D.Mon" Lee, with an upgraded Beast, will defend the MEKA base with her sword and shield (strangely knightly for people to believe she's villain-like). Maybe she won't be fast enough, maybe she will. A minor loss and a blow to Vendetta's pride? An eternal cagematch with unfairly upgraded Junker mechs? I don't know. What I do know is D.Mon is the former teammate and fellow soldier of D.Va, who is pictured against the Junker Queen and new Talon affiliate who has yet to do anything.
so.. yeah idk how to end stuff like this bc ive never done this before.. if u like this make blizzard hire me /j
