READ UNTIL THE SHOCKER!
Kurt Cobain was so iconic. I had all the Nirvana posters in my bedroom as a teenager in the 00s.
I pretty much worshipped the band who seemed to get me, it was one of my first introductions to rock; alongside Soundgarden, The entire Seattle music scene, My Chemical Romance, System of a Down, Linken Park... a whole bunch of new and old!
Except...I thought Nirvana were still a band and Kurt still alive, when I was raving about them to a friend as a fourteen year old, she gently held my hand and informed me that he was actually dead and that he had been for ten years!
And I unknowingly had this SHRINE to a dead band, a dead man whose circumstances of death still seem so unconvincing to me (ooooh a conspiracy theorist...please let's not go there).
All of my teenage dreams were shattered and I swear I mourned for his life! I was totally devastated, albeit 10 years late!
The thing is the internet now keeps everyone up to date to the second. If some news is blowing up I'll head to Twitter to get first hand accounts and comradery.
We simply did not have that; us 'Millennials' are the last generation to grow up without social media and the World Wide Web at our fingertips on our phones even!
Brace New World eh?
But let's just take a minute to absorb this beautiful soul, who through poverty created an iconic fashion style that now even had its own name!
GRUNGE ♥️
We love you Kurt. Inspiring in so many different ways and continue to do so to so many generations - in my opinion the last true Rock Star...
What do you think he would have created had he still been here all these twenty + years?
