Winry had, at first, been wary about starting at Spica for many reasons. Seeing the huge, lavish gates as she entered the school, she was speechless with awe at the marvelous campus, the sprawling city and the fast-paced academic environment. There was, however, a little fear as well. Formal, private education had never been an option for her before now, and frankly, it was a bit overwhelming to have to adjust to such a drastic lifestyle change in only a short amount of time.
Resembool was a small, quite town in the rolling hills of the Amestrian countryside; nothing like the busy, packed metropolis that was Bunkyo.
She knew, however, that she had to tough it out. She was there to get some real hands-on experience with the latest trends in engineering and broaden her medical knowledge beyond what her parentsā old textbooks could tell her. She needed an education, and by God she was going to get one! She was a Rockbell, dammit!
It was with this determination that she marched into the school for the first time, now a little more than three days ago.Ā
The first day wasnāt so bad as she had anticipated, and she was beginning to get into the swing of things. Her classes were just what she needed, and the teachers were exceptional and inviting.Ā She had also just begun scheduling her job at SatoMobiles working out what her hours would look like, and was hoping to put out an ad for her freelance mechanical services in town.
This fancy education wasnāt going to pay for itself, after all.
Sigh. If only she had her best customer and childhood friend around to lighten the load, both financially and emotionally. Though the people here were nice, they were nothing like the friends she had left behind at home. The people there seemed to already be wrapped up in their own friend circles, and at times it felt isolating to be the only girl in her engineering classes, not to mention a bit creepy. The guys were okay and all, but they were still hormonal teenagers.
As time passed, her longing to see a familiar face grew. This homesickness developed into a general sense of longing, one that did nothing for her attitude.Ā
Today was no exception. It was math class, and the horrible weather outside reflected her horrible mood. Her alarm hadnāt gone off this morning, and she had to skip breakfast to make it to class on time. Her patience was thinning quickly, especially with her substitute teacher. She didnāt see the point in listening, since she had already read the book on todayās lesson. In her boredom, she started to sketch a design for a new project she was thinking of working on.
Just then, a flash of lightning lit up the classroom, and the resounding clap of thunder nearly made her jump out of her seat. Electrical storms unnerved her, and this one was looking pretty bad.Ā
Looking around nervously, she thought she saw a flash of familiar golden hair outside of the window of her classroom. She tried straining to see it but she couldnāt really be sure since it disappeared just a quickly as it came into view.
After a while, it was a welcome relief to hear the bell ring to signal the lunch period.
She stayed back a bit before leaving, already knowing that the initial mob of students leaving the classroom was best left avoided. As she left, a bit happier to be headed to lunch, someone grabbed her wrist.
She immediately flinched, whirling around to face whoever had the nerve to grab her like that. Today was not the day to be messing with her.
She couldnāt believe her eyes.
"E-Ed?" she asked, bewildered. Before he could say anything, she suddenly threw her arms around him and mock-scolded in his ear," I was this close to hitting you, you idiot!"
After a second, she drew back and looked away, a slight blush on her cheeks.
