i love the feeling when someone asks me about one of my hyperfixations and it summons all my thoughts at once like my brain is a discord server that just got hit with an @everyone
someone: so tell me about this thing you like
my brain:
Thinking that psychiatric diagnoses are objectively existent disease states so perfectly cataloged by the DSM and identified by psych professionals that self dx is some kind of amateurish transgression is⊠đŹ. Clinical diagnosis is also subjective, and highly political, and culturally embedded. Donât do the mentally ills like this; educate yourself, not just in psychiatry but on it.
The DSM mainly exists for private insurance system purposes and was first written during one of the USâ most reactionary decades; it also supports a dubious research industry that dovetails w other industrial complexes (like pharmaceutical and military). The APA and the committees who write the DSMâweâve now had 5 iterationsâarenât comprised entirely of evil people who want to pathologize human diversity and natural human responses to our adverse environments, but that is effectively what they do. Control and pathologization and profit are baked in; theyâre intrinsic characteristics of our psychiatric system. Itâs a mess bc white supremacist capitalist patriarchy is a mess! Critical inquiry into the psych system does not invalidate our experiences of âmental illnessâ or even our diagnosesâit gives us a lot more information about them.

Interpersonal trauma has a hand in many mental illnesses and neurodivergent syndromes.Â
Interpersonal trauma includes (but is not limited to):
Sexual assault
Non-sexual physical assault
Witnessing domestic violence
Emotional abuse
Emotional incestÂ
Abrupt separation from caregiver
Caregiver substance abuse
Peer bullying
Community violence

So we have been using these terms among ourselves and others for a bit now, and I thought Iâd go ahead and make a post about them.Â
Demifictive: A general term for a fictive who is not fully what they are a fictive of for any reason.Â
An example could be someone who only loosely identifies as such, or someone who is a hybrid or post fictive.Â
Polyfictive:Â A fictive who is made up of two or more things found in fiction.Â
Similar to polykin, which is what inspired this term. An example would be a fictive who is a combination of two fictional characters.Â
Hybrid Fictive:Â A fictive that is combined with something else, not always another fictional character.Â
An example would be a fictive who is something from fiction combined with an animal.Â
I donât like that in order to be accepted by anti-endos I have to prove I have trauma. My trauma is my business.Â
iâm doing some âis multiplicity always traumagenicâ research, found this study which describes some cases of multiplicity. interesting how a lot of what the study reports doesnât conform to the âDID/OSDD is always traumagenicâ and âsystems are always DID/OSDDâ ideasâŠ
-
three systems were formed after the theorised cut-off age of 9:
a DID system that formed at 12/13 years of age
a non-traumagenic system that formed at age 17 (qualifies for a DID diagnosis but chose not to have an official diagnosis)
a non-traumagenic system who formed at 15
one system describes themselves as being multiple since birth:
âAll of us had been placed here in this body before we were born, ⊠I think we were born multiple.â
one system doesnât qualify for either a DID or an OSDD/DDNOS diagnosis, even though they formed in childhood and had an abusive family.
-
other interesting quotes:
âMost systems do not report amnesic barriers or recall traumatic events, and they insist that their multiplicity is something they were born with.â
âCertain cases [in the study] appeared to exist as a result of trauma, but in most cases, there did not seem to be any preceding traumatic event.â
âMultiples can be placed along a continuum between identity disturbance and DID, although most systems function relatively well in everyday life, thus casting doubt over the presence of a pathology.â (my emphasis)

Reblogging this again now that I have read the article more in depth. This was a study of 6 people so we cannot extrapolate any information about the percentage of traumagenic or endogenic systems. It is however a good start to the research on multiplicity and its many forms.Â
The quote â Most systems do not report amnesic barriers or recall traumatic events, and they insist that their multiplicity is something they were born with.â is interesting but unreliable because of the small sample size. Yes, these systems do not have amnesia or trauma, but we cannot say âmostâ.
Otherwise I think this is an interesting study and is the kind of study we need more of in regards to DID, OSDD1, and plurality. The lived experiences of plural people is something I find particularly important.

Systems are part of a team, which means cooperation is key. Find ways to communicate and work with your system members, and you will see amazing things happen.
Now Introducing: System Modifiers!
System "modifiers," also called system types, are extra labels or function-related aspects systems may have, which aren't related to origins. Some common examples are median, gateway, and polyfragmented
We've created a bunch of flags for these, all of which you can find here in a post linked at the bottom
These flags look a bit different from our origin [support] flags- to start with, they're typically square, and they come in "full" and "half" variants. They're also created without any gradient stripes, and use only two colors outside of white
How do we use them?
Simple! They're intended to be used by themselves (as part of icons, for example), or they can be overlayed on top of origin [support] flags. In the latter instance, the modifiers are made specifically for our simplified ones, but they can be extended to cover the normal 7 stripe flags as well
Here are some examples:
DID flag as an icon
DID flag as a modifier (traumagenic flag used)
You can even put an icon on it!
Or you can do several- here's one with the DID and polyfrag modifiers
Mix it up a bit! This takes stripes from the fictive-heavy flag and replaces the innermost stripes with them
So, how do you use them? Pretty much however you want!
Who can use them?
Anyone that's part of a system! However, we do ask that anti-endogenics refrain from using them, because it makes us uncomfy. The flag I created above describes us- we're traumagenic, polyfrag, fictive-heavy, and have DID, plus the icon is of the alter writing this- but we're still not comfortable having people like that use our stuff. There are a lot more problems with anti-endogenics than just their hatred of endogenic systems, and we've personally been hurt by their witch hunts and attacks
TL;DR: if you're plural, and aren't anti-endo, go nuts!
Where can we find the rest of your flags?
Right here:
Quick post that links to all our flags: Traumagenic Endogenic Quoigenic Neurogenic Multigenic As always, please read this before using them:
That links to all of our flag posts directly, so you can find ones you're looking for
What if I have an idea for a modifier?
You can send in a request! However, please note that we have the right to turn requests down, and that requests may take a while to get to due to us having a lot of stuff we need to do on a regular basis
Anyways, thanks for reading, and we hope you guys like these!
I donât even think origin is that important. And I feel like itâs shitty to expect someone to disclose to you whether or not they have trauma. Let that be their business. Just let systems be systems who cares what caused them.
